Quote from: badaids on January 23, 2022, 04:50:10 PMWhy don't they have one big stage with all 40 odd bands playing on it at the same time and save everyone's time. Will sound exactly the same.
Despite the jokey comment, I do wonder how many people criticising have heard the majority of these groups. I mean Alkaline Trio, Bring Me the Horizon and Bright Eyes are musically completely unrelated, for example.

Is it at all possible a few venues in Vegas just noticed this is a fairly untapped market for the casinos and such and this is more a testing ground for how to lure them in than anything else.

Does really well and you get an Alkaline Trio Vegas residency

Quote from: Pauline Walnuts on January 23, 2022, 06:54:44 PMHe wondered why a group called 'Dead Can Dance' was playing, who are an unlikely bands to be appearing on a line up such as that, but only because he mistook the name 'Dean Can Dance' for a group called 'Dance Gavin Dance'; which is a name he had never heard of.

At no stage was a subjective opinion the quality of 'Dance Gavin Dance' mentioned.

The font looks plausibly like one DCD would use too.

That was literally your own choice.

Quote from: The Mollusk on January 23, 2022, 06:45:23 PMJust sounds a lot like "I've never heard of this band so they must be shite" to me.

Not at all. They may be ace, just well after my time for listening to new bands and I really never had heard of them before. However I will check them out on YouTube tomorrow.

I'd say the only artists on there whose work I am familiar with are My Chemical Romance (who I quite like), Avril Lavigne well, the early singles anyway. Complicated was a cracker, I thought) and Bring Me The Horizon (local lads, although I've never met/interviewed them). And I've heard the odd song by Jimmy Eat World, Bright Eyes and a few of the others.

Rival Schools is a great band name incidentally and I've quite liked the stuff I've heard by them too. It's just not my generation. I am getting on a bit. I turned 35 in the first year of this century and as it's gone on I've found my interest in new acts lessening by the day. Happens to most of us I should imagine.

Would it be contentious to ask if The Wonder Years are a Wonder Stuff tribute band? Even the typeface for their logo seems familiar.

Thought it was obvious that last post of mine was self deprecating!

Psycho Las Vegas is already a thing, so it may be the other way round.

I wouldn't say it was obvious but if that's what you meant then fair enough.

My guess is because it's far cheaper/easier to run events in Vegas than it is in California, and California's tendency to change COVID restrictions frequently. Plus package deals with the hotels etc.

Quote from: Famous Mortimer on January 21, 2022, 01:27:53 PMThat shoegaze poster is a good gag because half the bands on it are absolutely terrible and a few are decent, much like the original poster.

To be closer to the Emo Hardcore Fest vibe of the OP, I get the feeling that the poster should be crammed with more third division acts, a generous handful of bands which were never part of *that* scene, and a number of miss-the-mark revivalists - so it should include Curve, Cud, Kingmaker, The Charlottes, Telescopes, Swervedriver, 1000 Yard Stare, Kinky Machine, The Darkside, Lupine Howl, Ringo Deathstarr, My Vitreol, etc etc.

This would be improved by the addition of punk prog lunatics !Forward, Russia!

I'm sure the alt-right would go ballistic when they play "Give Me a Wall".

kngen

It does seem like an awful lot of bands for a one-day fest, even with three stages. The logistics are giving me anxiety (and I have absolutely no interest in attending).

Punk Rock Bowling seems to be a decent template for how to do these sort of things in Vegas. Probably not as profitable, though.

Or even getting rid of all the other bands and just having !Forward, Russia! play for a couple of hours!!

I went to see Cursive supporting !Forward, Russia! and left as soon as they were done.

Maybe this festival is a chance to right that wrong.

Ferris

there's a joke here about them being "punktuation enthusiasts" or something but I just can't get there.

wooders1978

Presume multiple stages? Glastonbury puts on about the same amount in a day?

Captain Z

Some pretty good bands on that second day though:

Beneath The Bubble
Meet Me On The Way Down
Substraight
Windows On The World
Butterflies for Sydney
Material Models
Washedup
The Simsuns
Words Fail Me
Carpetroll

Quote from: H-O-W-L on January 26, 2022, 12:31:50 PMNew day added. Complete scam lol.

Yeah, adding that new date (on the next weekend, with the same lineup) is really weird. I know Coachella do two weekends, with bands playing a lot of local shows during the week, but that's what they sign up for. I find it difficult to believe all the bands were ready and able to come back to Vegas (or stay local) to do it again the next weekend.

A lot of this makes no sense, but what would the endgame be for a scam? It's got far too many eyes on it to pull off an outright "take the money and run", but I wouldn't be surprised if perhaps only half the original line-up actually end up playing.

It's annoying that this is so far away because I'm very eager to see how it pans out

I'm close enough, but I don't imagine I shall be going (even though this line-up would've blown the mind of a 15-year-old Noodle, and I almost want to go for his sake). I expect it'll be the kind of thing that's better to read about afterwards.

Aha I knew I'd phrased that badly as soon as I hit post. I meant far away in time (echo beach) not distance.

Alex G is on the new date, so the festival is already looking loads better!!
