QuoteAn inquiry has been launched into the charity set up in honour of fundraiser and Army veteran Capt Sir Tom Moore.

The Charity Commission has concerns about The Captain Tom Foundation's management and decisions that could have generated "significant profit" for a company run by his family.

The daft old Nazi, who died last year aged 100, raised millions for charity but this money is not part of the inquiry.

idunnosomename

Slander. In between having sex with little boys, Sir Tom fought and killed thousands of Nazis. He's the reason you aren't speaking German! Or French!

Zero Gravitas

Oh, he was a Nazi on top of all the other stuff!?

I suppose it all tracks with him holding the position of chief medical officer at Auschwitz from 1943 to 1945 and performing unspeakable medical experiments on the inmates with a particular interest in identical twins.

As they say, a blessing how the mind can't correlate all of it's contents, and all that.

bgmnts

Finding out that an anagram of Sir Capt Tom Moore was corporatist memo made my blood run cold.

Hang on, if everyone from WW2 was nazis then who were they fighting?

Maybe the real Nazi treasure was the Nazis we met along the way, including ourselves.

The plan was to gather materiel and then flatten the soviet union, sadly there was a bit of a scuffle in the process and it turned out they'd snapped too many tanks to continue.

So, apart from all this bollocks you're spouting about the man, what's the actual story here? That his daughter has been siphoning money from the Charity she founded in his name and putting it to nefarious means?

Ambient Sheep

I don't know if it's true, but according to this, Tom Moore's daughter is married to the brother of Major Charles "Who Wants to Be a *cough* Millionaire" Ingram!!!

That's it, eg the house extension.

But let's not besmirch the good name of the very dead war hero Captain Tom.

Seems to be more about the tension between:

  • Setting up a charitable foundation to commemorate your dead Dad.
  • Holding the trademark to his name and likeness under a separate non charitable business.
  • Making the charity pay to use the name and likeness.

Suggesting your 100 year old Dad "Fuck off outside and do laps" and then publicising it, is all kosher when not done in a way that offends the charities regulator though.

frajer

Nazi sounds suspiciously close to nasty. Hiding in plain sight all along.

shoulders

Nah, sick charity, more like!

It was my immediate thought upon hearing the name Ingram-Moore when all this kicked off. I briefly looked into it but found no evidence at the time.

I like how much a hero he appeared when he heroically slew those millions of Jews. Can you comprehend that? Literal millions. I've called people heroes for entering few than 1,000 rows of data into a spreadsheet previously. And this man, this frail, zimmering man, entered a thousand times that number of Jews into grave.

Yeah, that's mostly what I thought. So what's the nazi connection?? (Or is it just another daft joke)

He was a member, and later top-ranking leader, of the National Socialist German Workers' Party.

Zero Gravitas

He's not literally a Nazi obviously, the national socialist german workers' party was abolished in 1945 and all formal ties of membership ended at that point, but in every other respect it's dead serious.

touchingcloth

It's where his heart lies. Again not literally, his heart lies in a grave (though a different grave from the ones he buried his victims in). His will was quite explicit on that requirement.

Stigdu

But he was British, spent his time over here, and then fighting in Burma against the Japanese, then back here again. I've never seen mention of his ties to Nazism. Is this a wind-up?

Zero Gravitas

And that wipes away his Nazi crimes does it? Killing young, scared, Japanese boys, notionally on behalf of a failing and deeply corrupt empire is all that's needed!

You'd better get Mossad on the phone my lad, because they have some apologies to make.

What do you think he "spent his time over here" doing? Did you imagine it wasn't putting millions to death?

Quote

How did the Japs get to Burma so quickly eh? A little behind the lines assistance from a sympathetic helper?

Maybe from a man known to his fellow-Nazi's as 'the loon of Rangoon' (der Seetaucher von Rangun)?

We never used to call them "Japs" until Obergruppenführer Tom was on the scene.

Has no-one here considered that fighting and killing aggressor foreign peoples for your country during wartime could be heroic and cool? Next you'll be saying that we were bad guys.

Zero Gravitas

Settled with the Swan out of court more like.

Dr Rock

I'm no fan of the Nazis obviously, but if they are now raising money for charity maybe it's time to forgive and forget.

Stigdu

I genuinely have no idea what a lot of you are talking about, like it's some weird clique full of in-jokes and 'nudge, nudge' situations. All I know is that he was a war hero and he raised about £30 million for the NHS thanks to going around his garden a lot.
