Help identifying a film from my childhood

I thought of a film I sometimes used to rent from the video store when I was very young but can't for the life of me remember the title or if anyone famous was in it.

It's a 1980s (maybe early 90s) sword and sorcery fantasy film, it begins with a bad man and his marauders attacking a kingdom and killing off the wizard in the main castle.  His apprentice (?) escapes.  The plot of the film is him going off doing adventures with help from a gruff mercenary/traveller man he meets; towards the end in one scene they have to walk through a tunnel/cave filled with ghosts and the mercenary man says they have to sing songs to keep the ghosts away.  At the end the apprentice defeats the bad man who has magical powers and mercenary man heads off into the wilderness despite the apprentice asking him to stay.

This would have been a PG at most and a film you could rent from a run-of-the-mill rental store in a middling UK city in the early 90s, so none of this mucky Italian porn stuff or anything.

Does it ring a bell with anyone?

The Sword And The Sorceror? it may as well be.

Looking at the synopses of the 80s selection, there's very little difference between them

Wizards of the Lost Kingdom?

Or it's sequel. Both of which featured in the recent MST3K restart, so are on Netflix if you have it.

Blimey, it's this one.  That was a quick thread.
