I suggested this in General Bullshit yesterday, so I thought I'd give it its own thread to see if there would be much/any interest.
It would essentially be a CaB edition of the pop quiz I've been doing most Fridays over the past few months over Webex*.
I posted the rounds of a previous one here (https://www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,79077.0.html) if you want to see what the format was like.
Anyway, who fancies it?
*yes, I know, but it works
Might be up for it.
How much hassle is Webex to install? I'm incredibly lazy and only have Zoom.

Very little.
https://www.webex.com/downloads.html
How hard is the quiz?
Not very. Assuming you've heard some pop music in the last 40 years.
Maybe another time then.
Yeah, would be good another time, if enough people are up for it.
Can't do tonight. Definitely potential to make this your 'here comes quizzm' though. And by that I mean the questions are too hard, the quizzes arrive late and you drop it after 3 episodes.
I miss Here Comes Quizm. WORRRRGHHHH HOW'D YOU GET ON WITH THEM, THEN? Bloody adore Al Needham.
Up for this, Greggles.
I'll give it a go if I'm not out that night. Which I won't be.
Next Saturday?
We can all just ignore the Halloween theme...
Nailed on. By that I mean, very likely.
Yeah go for it

I'm definitely up for this also. Can't do much worse than I do on the Chart Music quiz, he says hopefully.
It's much easier than Here Comes Jism.
Although I compile it, so I know all the answers.
8pm Saturday
Plenty booze on standby
I'll post the link on the day
So this is tomorrow. I'll be grand if you're covering 1966-84, anything in the last 36 years, not so much. Whatever, it's just a birra fun. See you tomorrow Dr Greggles
Not sure there's much 60s in there, but the rest is a broad enough mix.
All answers have been verified by Paul Gambaccini (pictured below, taking a shit in a library).

Thanks for that Dr Greggles. My first public CaB appearance and extremely good fun. Lovely te to meet you all. Even the other Scottish bloke who beat ne, Cheers.
My performance attained little beyond mid table mediocrity but I thoroughly enjoyed that Dr Greggles, a thoughtful and entertaining quiz. Too many clever Scots for my liking ;-) but otherwise a grand evening. Thank you.
Yeah, thanks all. Was fun. Special thanks to Dr Greggles for his amazing big quiz compilation skills.
To celebrate, I thought I should share this clip, where the poetic beauty of the Inverness accent can be enjoyed in full, uttering the most beautiful saying, 'that's nae a baunk machine, it's a fence'.

Take it from me Janie, I know very little else about any other subject. i just wanted to prove I actually exist as I've never taken part in any other CaB thing before. Enjoyed it though. And lovely to actually see that some of you actually exist as well. Soz for buggering off from the Zoom thing so soon but I really did need a dump.
Glad everyone enjoyed it.
Might try to do another one in a couple of weeks.
I woke up with Go by Moby in my head this morning. So I played the video on youtube and he's not bald at all. I demand a recount.
He's very bald indeed by society's standards, but a hairy motherfucker by CaB's.
Very fair point.
Fuck it, I'll do another one this week.
#InternationalBreak
Excellent. Just wanted to record thanks in the thread for what was a fuck-ton of work. It was a great evening.
Well, I've got at least 12 other quizworths of rounds I've already made.
Might as well get some mileage out of them.
Are you running a quiz tomorrow (Saturday) Dr Greggles?
I will if there's enough interest.
interested!
I'd be up for a bit of quizzing too.
Might as well then!
7:30 start?
Can't do this tonight, virtual drink with siblings but would be another time. I'd be dreadful.

That was fun again. Thanks Greg. I'm slipping down the rankings though (especially after my great start) so I'd better start reading up for the next event. See you there.
My ringers turned out to be a grave disappointment, the shower of shites, but they said it was the best music quiz they'd ever done. Thank you Dr Greggles , keep us informed about the next one

Let's quiz!
Ooh, I'm not sure I can do this one. Who's going to battle for that crucial second place if I'm not there?
Yeah I'd be up for it again. What do you usually consider a minimum number of players Dr G? I'd say a case of the more the merrier.
Half a dozen minimum?
I wouldn't be averse to another quiz, assuming there are enough people.
We'll have a count tomorrow.
Just finished one - fucking exhausting somehow!
I'm in, ready to be trounced by Clatty and Jockice. Almost worth dropping in a quick reminder in the chart music podcast thread. One of those cats might stand a chance!
I'm up for this, I thoroughly enjoy it even though I'm shite at it. But that's only 3 confirmed entrants...
Might have to wait until next week anyway - having tech problems.
Friday night any good?
No worries about tonight. Can't do Friday though
Fair enough. I'm unlikely to make a Friday either, but will join next time I can.
Should be able to do next Saturday, but it'll have to be on a different platform.
Fridays are shit for me. Next sat would be good.
Looks like this will be on Adobe Connect, as it appears to be pretty stable and even the browser version seems to work.
I think this is the link for tomorrow night's shitquiz:
https://meet26313626.adobeconnect.com/vppq/
New platform, so it might be slightly less professional than normal.
This definitely on for tonight then?
Yep, if there are enough takers.
Do you recommend the app or is the web ok?
No idea - it's new to me!
I think it should be OK on the browser, but we can test it before the important quizness begins.
I'll open the room at 7:30. Hopefully we'll get it all working by 8...
Sorry I missed it. Basically I fell asleep on the couch and didn't wake up until it was too late. Who came second then? I already know who'll have won.
Music was the only winner, Jockice, as always (although we had to sit through some rubbish like The Fall before we got to 2 Unlimited and Patrick Swayze).
We just assumed you'd found something more exciting to do with your Saturday evening.
It wasn't the winning that counted, it was the taking part.
But, more importantly, it was the winning, and Clatty won.
Not sure if there's any interest in doing this tonight, but I've fucked off Adobe Connect (too many audio problems) and have a new platform which will be 100% web-based.
Whether it'll solve the issues on mobile devices, we'll have to see.
Otherwise I'll be crawling back to WebEx cap-in-hand...
Yep, I'm interested. Anyone else around this evening?
Uh huh.
In case anyone is holding back, thinking, 'But I don't want to come last,' fear not, last place is taken care of, I'm in.

Dr Greggles cannot be overstated.
Alright I lost ok, wind your neck in, ;)
Great fun from Greggles. Tons of fucking work, as ever many thanks.
Didn't feel up to doing a quiz last night. I was happy just lying on the couch reading, eating dry roasties (that's nuts, not potatoes) and watching random TV programmes. But I'll be back. With a vengeance. So watch out.

ii) I haven't made a quiz (as I'm trying to work out how to run an online horse racing night for Friday)

I just asked Gambaccini to record a 'get well soon' message for you. I even intimated that there could be up to £4.50 in it for him, but he still told me to fuck off.
Sorry to hear about your voice though.
From another thread it appears the last pandemic pop quiz had a special guest, the one and only SARS-CoV-2. Feels sort of like when the artist would come out on Jukebox Jury.
Hope you're feeling better now Dr G.
Hopefully through the worst of it.

Still - plenty of time to compile pop quizzes and plot revenge against your Covid-spreading workmate.

Yes,it was fun. Cheers.
what a load of old shit
great as always!
By the way Janie, what was the answer to your question? I missed that.
I think it's piss.
I've analysed the lyrics to all three songs, with a tab open for each so I could cross reference because I've got nothing better to do with my Sunday. Nothing! This is one humdinger of a Teatime Themetime, Janie.
What is the link? It's lyrical.
'Beetlebum' by Blur
'Kinky Afro' by Happy Mondays
'Tubthumping' by Chumbawamba
Yep, they all snuck a 'piss' past the radio censor:
Piss on it
Bad, piss ugly things I'm feeling
Pissing the night away
Pissed off something rotten I didn't see that.
Especially when I gave the answer 2 posts above yours!
OK then, What do Squeeze and Pulp have in common in the lyrics for two of their biggest hits? Lest we forget that both bands had two singles that got to number two, so it's one of them. For each band. Might be a bit too obvious but I've caught people out with it before.
And, for added trickiness, both of Pulp's #2 hits were double A-sides!
I think it's piss.
Due to the complete lack of interest in the answer I'm going to tell you anyway. It's that both bands had to do radio edits (of Cool For Cats and Mis-Shapes) to remove the word 'bleeding.' The former had it replaced with 'funny how the missus always looks the blooming same' and the latter with 'cos you're so very thick.'
Just watched the Top Of The Pops performances of both songs. Squeeze did the changed version, Pulp the original. But it was a good few years later. Just shows how times change.
And even later of course, Leona Lewis's Cunting Love topped the charts worldwide.
I WAS STILL PONDERING actually, but TBH I'd never have got it because I've never heard the censored version of either, or if I have I haven't clocked it and just autofilled with 'bleeding'.
I like these. Any more?
Bleeding sell-outs.

Janie should think herself lucky. I've got sodding Spagna in my head now. It was also on Pick Of The Pops this afternoon. Gambo and Dr Greggles have teamed up to haunt my dreams with fright-wigged Italian women.
And on that note I'm off to bed. Thanks for a fun evening everyone. Call me. Call me. Do do do it. If you want. But the phone's firmly off.

Excellent fun as per, Dr. That link round was fiendish. I even said at one point that the only good thing about 'Falling Down' by Oasis is that it was their last single. Still didn't figure it out. Duh!

Call me crazy, but would a 7pm (for 7:30pm) start work for y'all?
Or is that too early?
And apologies for saying "y'all".
Fine by me.
Need to start early if we're going to squeeze in all 462 rounds...
If I can get my old Dec 2020 iPad to splutter into action in time, no problem.

Yes, see you later
At my age this is probably wise.
Yeah, any latecomers may miss out on the special mystery prize.

Should be live from 7ish
OK, GO!

Terrific but I'm off banjos for a couple of years, cheers!
Nice jingles, sir.
Thanks

Looking at potential dates for next month's shitfest.
9th?
Actually, is that the London meet?
16th or 23rd - which works better?
either for me ta
Aiming for the 16th
Can't do either, in fact Saturday nights are unlikely to be free for me henceforth. You could always just freeze a revolting screenshot and give it half marks for each round for the authentic JJ-joining-quiz experience.
Doesn't look like there's much interest anyway.
For what it's worth, I'm still interested but would have to be November now.
Sorry, meant to reply. Happy to go with sometime in November if that lets more people take part.
This Saturday or 6th November
I can do either of those.
Probably 6 November for me.
6th is ok.
OK, so this will be Saturday night, if there's enough takers.
New jingles and a guest appearance from Gambo are guaranteed*.
*guarantee may not be honoured
Still in.
It was the promise of Gambo, wasn't it.
No, because I know you are the kind of man to incrementally raise your Patreon to now get THREE (3) mentions on CMP.
FOUR (4)...
Should also be in.
Well, that's 3 of us!
Starting to make it today.
There may be a new new round!
Any other takers for tomorrow night?

7:30 for 8:00?
Fine for me.
That was fun, I was extremely shit at it but it was a good quiz. Cheers pal!
Good to see you Angrew and your rather excellent hair.

Like the Olympics, it's not about the winning, it's about taking part.
But it's also about the winning...
Thanks Dr G, looking forward to the Christmas quiz.
18th Dec?
Works.
I will be 'doing a thing'[nb]No seriously![/nb] for every remaining Saturday of 2021, soz.
The 18th might not be possible anyway, as I'll be at a 'thing' in London during the day.
Saturdays looking busy in December - not even due to drinking!
Friday the 17th?
Saturdays tend to be better for me than Fridays, but 17th might be OK as long as I don't get invited to any sort of Christmas thing. You know what it's like at that time of year - people want you to go places and not be grumpy. Such an imposition.
Yeah, December's a fucking nightmare.
Crazy idea, but how about Thursday 23rd?
Yeah, sure.
Last day at school innit
Quote from: DrGreggles on November 28, 2021, 07:05:52 PMCrazy idea, but how about Thursday 23rd?
Tentative yes from me.
Can we bring our toys in? If so yes.
You can sit on whatever you wish.
I'll still be drunk.
As the CRAZINESS of doing this shit on a Thursday night appears agreeable, I'll get the Xmas Special* ready for the 23rd.
Hopefully the non-English cover versions thread doesn't use up too much of my content...
*won't be special and will be barely Xmassy
Do we still have enough interest in Thursday night?
It's a yes here Clive
Yes from me too.
Yes I think so, might have some people 'helping' me but TBH that doesn't seem to improve my score much.
Good stuff. It won't be all Christmas songs, but there'll definitely be too many...
Doors at 7, quiz at 7:30?
Sounds good
Sorry, plans have had to change, I'm not going to be able to do this tonight.
That's a shame.
We still got enough contestants for this tonight?
I'm still in. Men, wine and song (s).

Thanks Gregg, that was a top evening. Looking forward to the Billy Ray Cyrus round next time.
Yeah, cheers. Enjoyed it. PS, the mystery item in the middle of my floor is a robot vacuum cleaner, a Christmas present from my sister. I've taken it out of the box but I'm scared to plug the bloody thing in. It's probably more intelligent than me.
Next time can we see more of the cat.
I'll let Lotte do it next time. She might come higher than third.
Next one: 15th January
I doubt I'll be out that night...

I will, as it happens.
22nd might be better anyway.
15th is NFL Wild Card weekend!
This Saturday is doable, if anyone is up for it, but the week after works better for me.
Well, I definitely can't this Saturday but the following one may be okay. Just can't say for definite yet. It's such a glamorous life I lead, jetting off to Long Eaton on a regular basis.
22nd or 29th are fine with me.
I've agreed to go walking up a mountain somewhere in the Highlands on Saturday, so that's probably my entire 'fun' quota for the day used up. If the weather kiboshes it, I might be OK for an evening quiz, but following week probably suits me better.
Yeah, 29th it is.
Nothing to do with me not starting to make it yet...
OK, it's underway.

Is it Queen
Could be!
All their best songs are listed anyway.
90% sure this will be ready in time, so see you on Saturday!
7:30 start good?
Afraid I'm not going to make this one. Good luck to all those who do though.
I cannot make this, apologies.
Might be struggling for numbers then?
Possibly. May have to rely on surprise lurkers..
Otherwise, 12th Feb and onward Sats are fine with me.
I'm guessing this isn't happening tonight then?
Not really worth it
Fair enough. I think I can do any Saturday in February apart from the 19th, if others are around.
Oh bother. Roll on the 12th I suppose.
I'll pencil in the 12th
I am on for this and have pencilled it into my engagement diary.
Can you please let me know by Wednesday if you're coming or not, so I can see if we have the numbers.
Monday morning say yes to a quiz
I'll be there, as long as my supply of Skol lager to see me through arrives in time.
Still not sure. I'm not even being enigmatic here, just don't know what's going on in my life at the moment.
...and the results are in. They say I'm not going to make it I'm afraid. But good luck to all those who do.
Is this still happening tonight?
Doesn't look like there's enough interest.
I'm still up for itI bet you are, you dirty old bollocks.
Is Shiftwork not in too?
Due to Storm Bastard ruining my Friday plans I'm doing one of these at short notice tonight.
Any CaBbers want to join the 'fun', let me know.
