Richie Sunak - The Decline and Fall

Time for a general thread for Rishi Sunak and the Tories as we head down to a general election.

Today Sunak has, slightly, strengthened the party's condemnation of Lee Anderson's islamophobic comments. Though the party has officially suspended him for not apologising and not for the comments themselves. Sunak maintains there are no islamophobic sentiments in the Tory party though it seems it is paying for making antisemitism in Labour such an issue.

I do like the political cartoon in The Times even though it portrays Sunak and Cameron as innocents in the far-right chaos.

Next week is the budget. How much will Hunt try to bribe the voters with and how much will only come in to force after a general election?

Kankurette

Bit much the Times printing this when they're just as bad about the anti-woke shite Braverman et al are pushing as the other right-wing papers.

jobotic

Sunak and others saying that Anderson's comments were unacceptable but refusing to say they were racist or Islamophobic. So why are they unacceptable?

Meanwhile the destruction and theft from public services continues.

shoulders

Hunt should slap the pathetic bovine masses with another belt tightening initiative. It seems that is deep down what these wankers who call themselves floating voters really want.

I don't understand why what Anderson says is worse than what Braverman and Truss have said. It's just that he's completely expendable, right?

idunnosomename

Im no fan of Khan but is pretty grim that a man who happens to be a practising Muslim can't be mayor of London without him being accused of trying to usher in a worldwide caliphate.

Butchers Blind

Sunak comes across as a man who doesn't really care about his position, and why should he with his accumulated wealth. Has that robotic, scripted way of speaking where he can't improvise depending on what questions are being fired at him. No passion about his politics, just another step to feather the family nest.

Ferris

Personally I enjoy how bonkers Liz Truss continues to be.

In another world, her misguided confidence and staggering incompetence made her the bookies favourite in a latter series of the Apprentice.

Alberon

Lee Anderson releases the classic non-apology apology.

QuoteHundreds of people had been arrested for racist abuse on these marches and we barely hear a peep from the mayor. If these marches were about something less fashionable Sadiq Khan would have been the first to call for them to be cancelled. It's double standards for political benefit ...

Seeing the words 'From the river to the sea' on Elizabeth Tower made me feel sick to the pit of my stomach.

Khan has stood by and allowed our police to turn a blind eye to the disgusting scenes around parliament.

It is not my intention to upset anyone, I believe in free speech and have 100 per cent respect for people of all backgrounds.

The vast majority of Muslims are not Islamists in the same way the vast majority of Christians are not conservatives or socialists.

The vast majority of our Muslim friends in the UK are decent, hardworking citizens who make an amazing contribution to our society and their religion should not be blamed for the actions of a tiny minority of extremists.

My words may have been clumsy but my words were borne out of sheer frustration at what is happening to our beautiful capital city.

If hundreds have been arrested for racist abuse on these marches then the police are doing their job and there's no need to ban them entirely. What the fuck is he whining about?

Ferris

ChatGPT, write an apology for being a weirdo racist that won't upset people who read the Telegraph.

Fambo Number Mive

Describing calling for the mass killing of Palestinian civilians to end as "fashionable" is sickening.

QuoteKhan has stood by and allowed our police to turn a blind eye to the disgusting scenes around parliament.

So police have turned a blind eye AND arrested hundreds of people?

Steve Faeces

Don't know who projected "from the river to the sea" (PSC has denied its them) onto Parliament that got Lee so worked up but well done to them.

"Sick to the pit of my stomach". lol, grow up.

Fambo Number Mive

I don't recall reading about hundreds of people being arrested at the marches calling for an end to the killing of civilians in Gaza. I do remember over a hundred far-right protestors being arrested after Braverman and the right-wing press shit stirred about a pro-Palestinan protest on Rememberence Sunday. The Tories want to attract far-right votes though like Thatcher did in the late 1970s.

shoulders

The cunt knows exactly which gallery he is playing to. The 'beautiful capital city' that his constituents viscerally hate and set their entire identity around being different than them.

In all honesty the remark could have been made at any point in the last 50 years, the only thing that made it stand out was the casual nature of it.

BlodwynPig

Lock the evil cunt up. He is worthless and dangerous to society. If he wasn't an MP he'd be letting himself into his student lets to pester young women.

Alberon

The BBC has actually fact checked Anderson's claims of hundreds of arrests.

Quote43 arrests in October
    89 arrests in November
    19 arrests in December

The figures include arrests of pro-Palestinian protestors as well as counter-protestors, but there is no breakdown for this.

Religious/racial abuse has been listed as the reason for arrest in a total of 30 cases:

    11 in October
    11 in November
    Eight in December

So he's basically buggered his own argument by overstating the number of arrests. What a fucking moron.

Of course the BBC would say that, it's run by Islamists.

QuoteAndy Street, the Tory Mayor of the West Midlands, has criticised a Conservative MP after they suggested there were religious "no-go" areas in Birmingham.

Mr Street said politicians in Westminster needed to "stop the nonsense slurs and experience the real world" as he responded to comments made by Paul Scully in the wake of the Lee Anderson row.

Mr Scully, a former minister for London, told BBC Radio London: "The point I am trying to make is if you look at parts of Tower Hamlets, for example, where there are no-go areas, parts of Birmingham Sparkhill, where there are no-go areas, mainly because of doctrine, mainly because of people using, abusing in many ways, their religion to, because it is not the doctrine of Islam, to espouse what some of these people are saying. That, I think, is the concern that needs to be addressed."

Mr Street responded on Twitter: "The idea that Birmingham has a 'no-go' zone is news to me, and I suspect the good people of Sparkhill.

"It really is time for those in Westminster to stop the nonsense slurs and experience the real world. I for one am proud to lead the most diverse place in Britain."

Yep, there is no way you can look at Khan of all people and think 'aha, an extremist' without also thinking the same of any Muslim.

WhoMe

It's funny to hear about these 'no go zones' that turn out to be places you do, in fact, go to.

You can if you're a far-right grifter who knows it's all bullshit but is out on their arse come the election and wants to keep the money rolling in. Particularly when your party has done their best to make it such an easy way of making cash.

Anyway what's Labour's problem? People who are anti genocide are all Anti-Semitic Hamas supporting terrorists who threatened death to MPs aren't they?

H-O-W-L

wake up honey it's british parliamentary scandal season

H-O-W-L

Other no-go areas:

Jaywick, Essex
Blackpool, Lancashire
Gorton, Manchester

Well I wouldn't go there anyway.

If Street has gone to Sparkbrook for any reason other than political gain I would be shocked tbqh.

However there are much more unsafe areas so the original point is nonsense. Occasionally features in Man Like Mobeen.

Dog whistle stuff, while being virtually meaningless. The credulous want to believe something along those lines is true, so fuck the details.

I have encountered real no-go areas. Heavily guarded private land owned by rich white people.

Last time I went The Big One was closed for high winds and it wasn't even that windy.  "Elf and safety mate".  Just pandering.  Don't like rollercoasters, don't come over here, simple as.

Kankurette

Right-wingers are so weird about Khan. They act like he's a member of Isis. There are people in the US who genuinely believe women are forced to wear burqas down there even though a quick google would show that's not true.
