Contrary to popular belief India are not the "real winners"

Thanks to existence of Modi I'm very pleased about this.

To me, this should be held over India forever. Absolute bedwetting performance.

Not won an ICC event since 2013 which was the Champions Trophy where England choked.

The innings from Rahul, "Sky" and to a lesser extent Jadeja all absolute piss.

Great year for Australia, retained the Ashes, won this and the world test championship, only botch was the narrow test series loss in Australia.

The Ashes were an eventual huge fuckup by Australia, not sure where that comes from.

"Retaining" the Ashes is weak bullshit England-tier talk no-one in Australia would have any truck with. No Aussie thinks failing to win a series from 2-0 up counts as a win.

They haven't won a series in England since 2001. I think that'll hurt more than the tokenistic taking the Ashes home.

Winning this tournament is extraordinary given India's dominance throughout and it really reinforces how much fight and personality makes a difference at that high level where skill level is similar. Aussies got it, we know they always have.

There isn't a prayer our debauched AIDS calendar crew would have even chased 240.

Not sure I'd back us to chase 140 this tournament.

I'm going to miss there being cricket on the radio every day.

Thursday

Very funny that there's a t20 series between Australia and India that starts on Thursday. Cricket is extremely silly.

Yes saw that. Utter waste of time, will be interesting to see if its called out in the same way as the ODI series was between us and Australia after the T20 World Cup in Australia last year given its an absolutely identical scenario

There's still women's Big Bash League almost every day on Radio 5 Sports Extra. Mostly in the middle of the night or very early in the morning but some matches start as late as about 9am UK time. There's only about a week left before it gets into the knockout stages, but then the men's BBL starts and presumably that'll be on too. I find the Australian broadcasts pleasingly exotic because you get other Australian sport news in the innings breaks.

Their triumph is actually really impressive given how poor they were in the first two games and that there were so many unresolved issues in their team: a wicketkeeper who can't bat, a middle order who can't hit boundaries, no fifth bowler, two big hitters who did nothing against the big teams, their star young all-rounder continuing to flop, having no opening partner for Warner for half the tournament, etc. They basically just gritted their teeth and got through thanks to some great indidivual performances, a crack seam attack, a togetherness in the field, a bit of luck and a refusal to give up the way certain other hotly-tipped teams did.

Not many upsides to Australia winning, but Pat Cummins inadvertently becoming a hate figure by the Aussie gammonry, boomers, and assorted alt-right in Australia makes this a result that didn't only silence the Indian fans.

Kankurette

Thank you, Oz, for making that twat Modi throw a hissy fit.

Why on Earth? I thought those types loved cricket.

Thursday

I don't even remember what specifically but Cummins said something that would barely even register to a normal person, but got those types all frothing at the mouth about Wokeness and any failures of Australia would be because of "Woke Cummins."

Kankurette

Ah yes, whenever a sportsperson expresses a remotely liberal sentiment it automatically makes them bad at doing the sport. Seen it with football.

Chris Wokes.

Cummins comes over well in the Amazon documentary series The Test, in fact most of the team do, and Marnus is a proper weirdo.

Justin Langer lost his job as coach and made quite an undignified exit. Most of the team weren't getting on with his methods exactly but he wasn't providing proper channels to escalate concerns so players inevitably went around the houses about it.

As with everything it became a witch-hunt/cancel story, which the media stokes and it became a trench divide so if you were an old white bloke you sided with Langer and if you aren't scared of new concepts like climate change you backed Cummins over the starey weirdo.

To Langer's eternal shame he had the moment to disown the dinosaurs and far right contingent and didn't take it, instead seemed quite happy to have them cheering him on.

Cummins has seen all that through with dignity more or less throughout.

All this has put English fans in the very odd position of quite liking an Aussie captain - and a bowler at that.

Still not sure what to make of KP, a lot of people say he is a cunt and he does seem on the surface like a cunt, but I like the conservation stuff he does and if Swanny hates him then maybe he's not actually that bad.

shoulders

I think the "absolute fucking cunt" comment by Strauss rings in my ears whenever I hear his name.

It's getting very little coverage but the African qualifier for next year's World T20 is shaping up nicely. Namibia look nailed on for top spot but Zimbabwe are facing elimination after losing to Namibia and Uganda. It's between Uganda and Kenya for the second qualifying spot, I reckon.
