what's making your local newspaper commenters angry

In Oxford its mainly the Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, which they seem to blame for everything. One dickhead claimed cars are "kettled" on Oxford's streets. They also moan about "woke people", disabled people and those on benefits, people who live in the poorer areas of Oxford,15 minute cities and people who dont agree with the murder of tens of thousands of people.

I do wonder if some of these people are astroturfing from right wing think tanks. Or maybe the comments section just attracts angry right wingers.

I've never been able to get a local newspaper website to load on my phone because of all the ads. I feel fine about this

Milo

In South East Wales council tax reform and the 20mph are the big items that are attracting the ire of angry middle aged men and/or Tory bot networks.

idunnosomename

People moan about ULEZ charging and blanket 20 mph even in northern England where they dont exist.

Also any new houses will all be full of dole scum with six kids and immigrants.

People in England really are cunts on the whole arent they

There was a story in the OM about a person who complained, entirly reasonably, about two of the seven disabeld spaces at a superstore being taken up by a delivery.

The commentators mostly took the side of the shop, with comments including that the disabled spaces arent used that much when they go past, that the person should have gone to the store manager before customer services, that he shouldnt be going in the shop anyway if his disability meant the other disabled spaces were too far for them to walk...some of the most judgemental nonsense Ive ever read. Like a localised version of PS.

I presume these local comments sections generate ad revenue somehow. Imagine having to moderate them. I do wonder how worthwhile the BBCs comments section is given that it mainly seems to be used to promote certain agendas and is more about attacking people with different views than reasonaed debate. Its ironic that a lot of people who post on there for free seem to want the BBC to be scrapped, they would probably replace it with telescreens playing GB News 24 hours a day or compolsory reading of the Daily Mail over loudspeaker vans.

They also hate anyone who complains about a company as they are doing it "for compo". Bascially bootlickers who think corporations are wonderful and anyone who has a bad experience with a corporation is to blane. The sort of people who enjoy companies on social media being rude to people who complain.

I do sometimes comment on my local newspaper to try and balance out the rapid Daily Maileseque hate, but it feels like a waste of time.

Blumf

A lot of the local commenters here tend to lay into the Tory councillors and MPs fucking up.

Still the usual background noise right wing moans, but at least it's not 100%

Having a hoohah, not even from our area but too exciting to ignore, about a gang of people going about setting fire to woodburner shops in Brittany.  Seems foolish.  Woodburners don't burn for shit.

I gave up reading the Oxford Mail as even by local newspaper standards it's terrible.  Rare that there's  actually any news in it apart from traffic updates and sports scores.  Most of the comments seem to be people arguing about cycling.

Stoneage Dinosaurs

A number of different things, usually forces for societal good and occasionally something entirely innocuous. But on a broader level the answer would be "their utterly useless fucked brains"

Butchers Blind

Kent Online comments are usually 'they come over here' type regardless of what the story is.

They're kicking off about the Welsh Government looking into spreading the school holidays out rather than having six weeks. The way they react to absolutely bloody everything, it's as though everything now is some sort of perfect ideal and any change is anathema. Must be so tiring.

Red82

Desperately trying to convince myself that people are stupid rather than horrible. I can find a crumb of comfort in that.

The comments section of the Daily Post in North Wales is entirely made up of english retiree's in the area moaning about one of three things, top of the list is always the multilingual road signs, then mandatory use of Welsh in schools then savage opposition to the mooted tax on second home owners turning once thriving towns into ghost towns 10 months of the year.

20mph has been a very hot topic recently tho.

The 'Clowncil' moved the indoor market to a new building in 2013, the seismic shockwaves of which continue to spawn Hell and Pox across the once fair city.

How dare Welsh people speak their own language in their own country. Fiends.

confusing roundabouts, and badgers

[definitely need the Oxford comma there]

Imagine spending an evening in the pub with one of these pricks.

Perth council forgot to close the flood barrier gates during flooding last month and then lied about it and then lied about lying. A bunch of people and businesses got flooded the fuck out and everything PKC now posts gets a bunch of people posting "FUCK THAT WHAT ABOUT THE FLOOD" and every local newspaper article has people doing the same.

DrGreggles

Cambridge Evening News comments don't even need to be read - just look at where the commentor is from.
If they're from Cambridge it'll be anti-Tory, but any from the Fens will be right wing nutjobs.

This could be under a story about puppies.

I've just done this and now I'm imagining kicking their head in outside in the car park. Look what you've made me go and do.

When I briefly worked at a local online newspaper (14 years ago) afaik all of the revenue came from local and national businesses that were using the paper or website for selling adverts, sponsored posts, directory listings, etc. I'm sure all the intrusive adverts have some purpose but I wouldn't think that they earn enough to pay anyone's wages

Milo

Wonder how long they could go in the pub without talking about some woke nonsense they'd read about.

Kankurette

I was stuck near one of those types in a pub in Hull once and it was like having a wasp in my ear. I was trying to talk to someone but couldn't focus because of the twat going 'woke woke wharblgarbl'.

Two articles on the homepage of Mitt i Söderort about how one southern branch of the Stockholm metro will be officially part of the "blue" line instead of the "green" line once current extension work is complete.

This man is not happy about it.

My station will still be on the green line so I don't care.
