Last DVD you bought and when

I bought a copy of the Armando Iannucci Show in 2011, and then half a dozen Ghibli films from Fopp in Oxford in 2018 because at that point they were unstreamable.

Last disk drive in my household was in the PS4, which has been unplugged since mid-2022

WBU?

I bought the sequel to Twin Town, La Cha Cha last week because it wasn't available to download or stream.

Before that it was probably a second hand copy of The Beastie Boys Anthology about 6 months ago, because I wanted the multi-angle extras and commentary.

As for Bluray, I recently got the KLF box set from the BFI, and before that it was the Hong Kong action film Righting Wrongs, I bought it because it had different endings including a "random ending" feature and online rips don't support branching very well.

Magnum Valentino

DVD - The Shane Meadows film Twentyfourseven, for the commentary track. Last year. Don't think I've bought any since then.

Blu-Ray - Still get these all the time, bought ten films from the Indicator Sale, most of them starring either Peter Cushing or Christopher Lee. Last 4K I bought was Raging Bull (from AMERICERRRR).

jobotic

15 Storeys High when it was dirt cheap in the BBC Shop.

Or maybe Moanna for my daughter.

Pink Gregory

Feralkid

About two weeks ago - I bought a second-hand copy of Paul Schrader's Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist. When I have spare cash I still buy physical media and am dropping STRONG Christmas present hints about that Psycho 4k Blu-Ray boxset that's just come out.

dissolute ocelot

Liquid Sky last June. Spanish edition. Excellent film ("A small, heroin seeking UFO lands on a Manhattan roof, observes a bizarre, drug addicted fashion model and sucks endorphin from her sexual encounters' brains.")

Gurke and Hare

The complete series of Beast (Simon Nye/Alexander Armstrong sitcom) in January last year.

Most recent Blu-ray was the most recent Doctor Who classic series box set whichever season that was. 20 or 21.

I buy them for work all the time (although they're not for me and it's not my money), so I think season 5 of Cobra Kai and a box set of The Following were the last ones I ordered. It's surprising how many things don't get DVD releases at all now, or not in the UK anyway. We had a few requests for Wednesday but afaik there's no DVD coming.

Are people allowed to send discs in? I saw something a while back that said prison staff had to start vetting them as people had been known to splice messages into them, although I guess that's only a problem for 'burnt' discs. Similarly, in Spain they had to ban tv sets with teletext capability as it was being used as a means to send coded messages to inmates.

They can, and the prisoners can buy them themselves but they have to be originals (so no burnt ones allowed) and sent directly from the supplier (usually Amazon) and not via family or friends for exactly that reason, although it's not messages so much as them being porn/anything 18 rated/extremist material etc.

Norton Canes

New? Probably the last classic Doctor Who story I bought, got a feeling it might have been The Sunmakers. Bought the Touch of Cloth box set in Oxfam the other week.

Memorex MP3

The Fist of Fun set when gofasterstripe were clearing it out a few months back. So cheap I bought two

Clive Dogshit

Very poor quality pirated sets of Oz, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Office, bought from a laughing man with a mouldy suitcase outside a crematorium in 2009.

Pranet

New some stuff from the Go Faster Stripe sale earlier this year.

Second hand not sure but wouldn't have been that long ago. See some film I want to see for £1 or whatever, why wouldn't I?

I'm also a member of Cinema Paradiso so I rent DVDs several times a month.

Emma Raducanu

The entire studio Ghibli collection over the past few years. Other than those probably Free Solo about 3 years ago.

dontpaintyourteeth

4 for £1 PDSA

Dredd
Thomas Crown Affair (remake)
Alan Partridge Alpha Papa
Phoenix Nights Season 1

all watched once then re-donated

Dunno when exactly but defo in the last 3 months

Last new one was South Park Season 24, because I have all the others. There seems to be several more now. I should perhaps get them also. For the sake of completeness if nothing else.

Where did you get that from, btw? Been having trouble finding it myself.

thanks to SMBH for finding the link, there's also HMV for slightly more.

Mr_Simnock

No idea, must have been around 2010 though at the latest and was most likely the 'Ugly Betty' dramedy.

studpuppet

I still seem to be buying things regularly. In the last couple of weeks I've received Star Cops, and Decadence (Stephen Berkoff & Joan Collins)

Memorex MP3

Including game dvds I bought Dance Central 3, some Singstar game and Buzz

magister

I'm not sure what the last dvd was, but for blu rays, box sets of the BBC Ghost Stories for Christmas and the films of Tod Slaughter.

Egyptian Feast

In the last month I've picked up a giallo 'essentials' boxset (the blue one), Carpenter's The Thing and the bollocks but interesting Southland Tales from the Arrow sale; a Kris Kristofferson/Gene Hackman flick Cisco Pike and Aretha Franklin's Amazing Grace from eBay, plus that KLF collection from the BFI. I'm not allowed to buy any more until Christmas, but my wishlist contains a bunch of 1960s Japanese horror films like Jigoku, so that's what I'll be binging in the New Year.

I haven't seen the first fourteen, does that matter?

Fanny and Alexander and Ghost in the Shell. I only watched one of them.

Neomod

Finisterre for four quid. I've got it on the BFI Paul Kelly trilogy but got the standalone for the commentary with Bob and Pete.
