Morris awkwardly rotating the clock to point to the workings.  Brilliant, better than if he'd nailed it.

Mr Trumpet

Does the phrase "nut brown ale" precede Morris and Brass Eye? Or is it another turn he came up with?

I'm pretty sure I heard Rambling Syd Rumpo saying "the foaming nut-brown ale" from back in the 60s.

yes - in the short term
but there's been absolutely no research into the long term effects

I love seeing the names of real people reappropriated in comedy. Was watching some Veep episodes the other night and caught Carlos Ezquerra (2000AD comic artist) and Max Geldray (Goon Show harmonica player) used as character names.

The Mollusk

Iggy Pop Barker is a good one

Another The Day Today one, the woman who videos the 'Chopper of Doom' is called Maureen Tucker, after The Velvet Underground's Maureen 'Mo' Tucker!

Also Beck listed in the credits of one episode a BE (the 'Sex' one I think)!

The little "M. Tucker" copyright mark in the corner of the screen of her camera footage always cracks me up

Quote from: Bentpitch on August 21, 2024, 06:39:07 PMThe driving, even the way he turns the steering wheel is funny.

When I saw Oxide Ghosts I asked the question "Who in the team was obsessed with the work of Richie Blackmore?" because during his drive in that scene he's playing I Surrender by Rainbow on the stereo, and later in Oxide Ghosts there's a bit where some credits roll and the production team are listed as being the members of Deep Purple. I can't remember Cumming's answer exactly but he said he'd never been asked that before and he hadn't even realised the connection. I'd find it hard to believe Morris was a fan, but maybe he was/is? Either way it's so brilliantly realised. The fucking trousers he's wearing, all shiny silver nylon. Just so on the money.

"a right physical discourtesy"

The Giggling Bean

Too many to mention, every episode is a goldmine.

The eye contact to the offender, when she's defecating on his carpet, is hysterical in the Crime episode.

Where in shitting crikey is my nose? Its in a jar mate! Never fails to make me laugh.

One thing I don't find funny any more is the end of Moral Decline, where Morris asks "have we really come to this" because that's exactly where we're at, although proper worse than he ever imagined.

Been watching Minder on ITV4 recently, Arthur Daly says "GBH of the ear'ole" a couple of times!

I think that's entirely intentional, given the subject. Now you can enjoy it a bit more!
