Is this too boring a subject to start a thread about? Let's see.

I work for a university, and one of the things we do is book out camera equipment and all that, for students doing creative things. Currently, we use Cheqroom to manage all the bookings, but they're trying to make us pay like 5 grand a year for something that the student-workers in charge of the checkout process barely ever use.

I've searched "freeware asset management academic" and so on, but I'm just being bombarded with sponsored posts. If anyone is in this line of work, or has better searching powers than me, please help.

Try searching for 'inventory software' instead.

This looks like it could do the trick and is modestly priced: https://lenditems.com

There's an open source inventory tool here that looks ok, but of course you'd have to get your uni sysadmins to host it and the database it relies on: https://docs.inventree.org/en/latest/

Cheers, @Sebastian Cobb . Lenditems looks like a winner, now I just need to get over the inertia from the people in charge of the AV equipment, and I'll have saved enough to get a fancy new chair for my office (although they'll probably just spend it on crap for the students).
