In 'Fell Seal' you can be a "Tinker" with a jaunty hat and Luck as a skill.

I've been playing Broforce yet again. It feels faintly ridiculous that, for all the PS4's processing power, the game I've played more than any other on it (by a considerable margin, I expect) is a retro styled 2d platform shooter. It's just so playable though - perfect when you don't have the time or inclination for something more complicated.

I've mostly been playing it in the permadeath "Ironbro Mode", in which each character only has one life. Its a small change, but it makes a pretty big difference to the overall game. It's not just more difficult, but it can also lead to some challenging scenarios, like facing down a boss with a character that's not suited to the encounter. You either have to muddle through, or let them die and hope you respawn as someone better equipped for the fight.

Finally beat Xenoblade Chronicles. I've started it up dozens of times in the last 7 years, on 3 different systems, and never got beyond the second chapter. The Switch's Definitive Edition comes with "Casual Mode", which means you spend less time in its terrible combat system. Having said that, there were certain bosses I had to grind a few hours to beat. The story was really interesting, better written than most other JRPG stories. A bit convoluted, lots of twists, stuff was set up only to have later story beats confound expectations. I don't remember any excessive perviness either, compared to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 with its weird borderline harem shit and the little mascot character building a submissive robot sex maid.

I will be moving on to XC2, I played about 20 hours when it came out, and dropped it because it had terrible gameplay. In a single player offline game based around collecting bad ass anthropomorphic weapons, who decided that gacha mechanics were the way to go?

I've also just completed XC for the first time, in preparation for XC3 coming out in July.

We really shouldn't get into it in this thread though, Bazza likes new topics for discussion, I'll try and start one for XC3 this evening.

Would appreciate it, thanks :-) then others can better find and contribute to the discussion.

Picked up Bloodborne on sale and been playing for about a week now.

Been really enjoying it, dying a lot but it does feel that you know what you did wrong when it happens, 90% of the time its trying to attack one too many times for me. Missed some of the "casual" features at first like the lack of map but it's great figuring out how the worlds fit together. Lack of pause is still shit though.

Bosses have been a bit of a mixed bag some of the big beasts feel like chaos, Amelia was just a blur of white and hoping I was hitting her. Paarl got stuck in the wall around the arena so that was nice. Witch of Hemwick was weirdly easy.

Off to face this guy next:

Really want to try Sekiro, but not £50 on Steam really want to try it.

I think it's worth that, but I wouldn't want to drop £50 on a game when I've got more than one on the go, and I *always* do.

Thanks Barry, I appreciate that I've started a megathread but it's good to use for one-off posts/a directory I thought.

One-off posts are useless on a discussion forum tbh :-) and there's no reason one-off posts can't be a thread where other people are then able to find and potentially contribute to a more in-depth discussion but okay.

Barry Admin

I'm sorry, don't let me put you off using the thread folks. I'm burnt out with trying to promote discussion and thinking of just stopping and changing. It's 17 years of banging the same drum now, and I suspect it's part of what's kept the site going, but at the same time, Facebook and Twitter have totally changed the way most people want to engage with the internet.

So all 3 of the Sigma editions of the 3D Ninja Gaiden came on to Game Pass, and considering that I'd had such a fine time of NG Black I thought I may as well try out NG2.

oof.  Really didn't like how it felt right away.  Somehow felt stiffer and less flexible than the first, and then I found a normal combo that ends with an overlong finishing move and...really bounced off it.

Far too much going on visually as well.  NG is appealing because of how clean and simple and elegant it looks, this just looks like they tried to jam a load of shinies in because HD.

Might perserve with it but I've got other stuff on.

Just finished the Mass Effect trilogy. I've played about 40 hours in the last week, so I'm quite exhausted. Ending was a bit of a damp squib. The series was alright, nothing spectacular, really don't see why it's got the reputation for great story telling, but then again I enjoy Resident Evil stories so my taste is shit. Now do I move on to Andromeda, or start the Dragon Age trilogy as a palate cleanser?

Stigdu

Just finished The Quarry, from the same makers of Until Dawn from 2015. Fantastic game. Absolutely loved it. Now going through a second playthrough to see what other decisions I can make and get some more trophies.

Football Manager 2022. First update I've played since 2016. Lost 7-0 to the reserves. There's obviously some essential thing I'm missing. Sort of like when they first introduced opposition instructions and I didn't know it was impossible to win without going "show onto weaker foot" on most of the attacking players

Giving Danganronpa a try.

First chapter was good but the second murder seems too obvious, I'll be a bit disappointed if it is who I think it is.

hm, I appreciate that this is an old game, but this 'twist' is a bit unpleasant.

Spoiler alert
so i appreciate that Chihiro isn't *technically* trans, and the whole 'dressing as  woman because they've been told they're weak for a boy' could just be a comment on, you know, expectations in a conservative society etc...but that's not really the tone of the game and it feels a bit cheap?

Currently streaming RE2 remake and good god I forgot how well it looks and plays.

Glebe

Completed RE2 remake recently. And have replayed Jedi: Fallen Order.

Pink Gregory

If the Steam Sale lasts until my payday and I can find the £25...might just have to pick up Sekiro.

Not drastically different to anything I've been playing but feels like it's something that needs to be experienced.

Finished RE2 on hard-core with Claire.  6 hours and about 30 saves! B ranking can't complain.

Might re-play threemake now, haven't played it since it came out.

This is an odd and unnecessary question, but have you ever played the original RE2?  I did for the first time last year and it was a revelation.  A crime that it's not easily available.

Yeah most definitely, I remember renting it from Blockbuster as a kid. That and Nemesis were the only ones I actually played at the time so they're what I think of when I think of Resi Evil, whereas a lot of fans think of 4.

But yes maybe the code doesn't exist anymore but why they can't port those classic PSX games I don't know. Final Fantasy VII-IX are available so I don't know.

I've got 1,2 and 3 downloaded on my PS3, the store of which only recently went offline, so why they would have lost those is beyond me.  I just don't see the reasoning behind not making them available.

I was impressed by how little they felt dated.  It's an interesting artefact of third person control schemes before they were standardised, true, but even in RE1 (admittedly the director's cut) I didn't feel like I was struggling against the controls.  Silent Hill is a lot harder to revisit.

Presumably it's Capcom just being divs. I mean they could easily port or remake Outbreak and Outbreak File 2 on steam and consoles and it would do mega business but they just don't.

I'm playing deathsmiles iix again since the double pack thing came out on steam.
Man, I forgot how much fun that game was.
You don't get the great hypnotic silly slowdown like in the 360 version, but I'm really enjoying it.
Took me a while to refigure out the scoring, but I think I've got it down now.
Stupid arsehole prick me from 11 years ago is winning, but I'm determined to beat that tosser even without slowdown!
People are wrong about deathsmiles 2. It's fun.

Pink Gregory

Been absolutely hammering through Danganronpa, finished it last night and not sure what to think of it as a whole.

Overall I liked it and was compelled, I liked *most* of the characters; it's got that quite Japanese visual novel thing of being extremely overwritten, and it can't quite decide on the tone sometimes, but it's compelling enough (except Hiro who it is impossible to be interested in or care about, fuck Hiro, Shaggy-ass MF).

I feel that I would have liked it more if you could get things wrong in the class trials, or miss things, without failing completely.  The execution aspects just feel a bit tokenistic and the investigations don't half lead you by the nose, but the mysteries are at least fun.

You definitely don't get enough time to socialise.  I think I just ended up going round most people twice to get their skills, and you don't get much more than that.

Will definitely play the sequel at least but definitely not yet.

Mobius

Im playing that Returnal game it's well hard

Yeeeeeeah!

Oooooh yeah!

I've really being overthinking the scoring in this, you don't have to summon the yellow suicide bullets all that often.
Sorry, I'll stop doing this now. Number get bigger. Might be a big deal to me but I imagine none of you could give even the faintest whiff of a fuck.

Play deathsmiles 1 or 2, they're both fab!
