What do you think makes a good Edinburgh show?

I was interested to read people's thoughts on what makes a good fringe stand up show. We can all agree that "it being funny" is very important, but what separates a great show from and average one?

For me, the more personal the content the better. Something where we discover aspects of the comedian always appeals to me. I think an overriding narrative arc is important too, rather than just a flimsy frame to hang disparate material from. I don't mean a gimmick either, just a theme. Gimmicks are good if they add to the experience without getting in the way.

Anyone else have any thoughts?
