Baba Zulu- Biz Size Aşık Olduk (We fell in Love with You)"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sD8NhLwLpGI
(V. slightly NSFW album sleeve in the video)
Psychedelic Turkish band Baba Zulu's 2017 album XX was a bunch of re-recordings of some their strongest work- this woodwindy thing which seems to have something quite yearning about it-was originally the theme to an early 2000s romantic comedy TV series about three funny fellas who live opposite three wacky gals- love and laffs ensue!

Quote from: jamiefairlie on June 15, 2022, 08:04:22 PMI posted a solo Judy track from 1972, so that's 50 years unless there was a later entry?

I am a fool, it is of course 45 years as it's 2017, not 2022.

The Proper Ornaments - Jeremy's Song

https://youtu.be/aFkd-H2QKlY

From "Foxhole "

" a warm blanket of analog guitar and woolly harmony. Looked at cynically, the Proper Ornaments is a great name for a band infatuated with their record collections—a group that decorates their spare little songs with only the most finely curated influences, like so many baubles on a tree"

Tomberlin - Self-Help

https://youtu.be/SPwvR8Ns_kg

Solo project of Louisville, Kentucky-based musician Sarah Beth Tomberlin

From debut album "At Weddings"

"It's an album utterly relatable because love, and heartbreak, are universal. It's also something so amazingly personal that no one could precisely duplicate it, because every experience is specific to Tomberlin's journey. That's At Weddings: passion, devastation, depression , and strength rolled into one. It's tenacious, and it's beautiful."

VENN - Legacy Project

https://youtu.be/nmQr9wjdWqg

VENN is Stuart Gardham, John Petrie & Ben Leverock, based in London & Berlin

From "Runes "

"The default setting for Venn's debut album is a kind of punky Krautrock, all finger-bleeding ostinato basslines and hypnotic beats wreathed in doomy electronics."

Strand of Oaks - Radio Kids

Strand of Oaks is essentially Tim Showalter and a changing cast of musicians. Originally from Ohio, but now based in Austin, Texas, Showalter moved from folky confessional songwriter-type material in the late noughties to the more muscular guitar-heavy sound featured here - possibly not a million miles away from the more commercially successful War on Drugs in blending 'heartland rock' influences like Tom Petty with synth sounds and more 'alternative' influences like The Replacements.

Tennis - Fields of Blue

A husband-wife duo who met as students in Denver, Colorado, fronted by singer Alaina Moore, Tennis make lilting, jangly indie-pop with a retro feel. This is taken from the album Yours, Conditionally.

Wire - Sleep On the Wing

https://youtu.be/148BUwYCerU

From "Silver/Lead "

"As precise as ever yet oddly moving, Silver/Lead reaffirms that Wire are more like mercury, shape-shifting effortlessly while remaining true to the things that have always made them great"

48 Hour Alert!
2018 will open for business later on Monday night

Eddie Ladoire Pierre Bastien - Phantom Dance #7

Closing track from Phantoms, an album of the music from a live show which had dance themed film shown behind the musicians. The live performance is here.

Animal Collective - Jimmy Mack

Cover of well-known song from The Painters EP.

Hear in Now- Leaving Livorno
This too-short violin/cello/double bass trio tune presumably inspired Italian bass player Silvia Bolognesi's journey out of the port town of the title has some beautifully folky moments to it mixed with moments of more modern-classical sounding confusion.

Bill Orcutt-Lonely Woman
https://billorcutt.bandcamp.com/track/lonely-woman
(sorry no Youtube available)
Free jazz saxophonist Ornette Coleman wrote many themes and melodies that even his detractors admitted were good- and his 1959 tune Lonely Woman was one of the best. In 2017 guitarist Bill Orcutt recorded this absolutely smoking solo guitar version of it.
This is my last entry in AAHo"P"M, my own listening to new stuff has been kind of hiatus since 2017.Thank you for all your entries, I'll carry on listening.x

Brundle-Fly

The Noisy Days Are Over - Field Music. Released on Memphis Industries in 2017.

On reflection, I think this mob might be my favourite band of the last sixteen years and yet bafflingly, I don't think I've ever nominated them in these threads. Shame on me. Sorry Brewis Bros.

Field Music are from Sunderland, England who formed in 2004. The band's core consists of brothers David and Peter Brewis (who each at one time played drums for fellow Sunderland band The Futureheads). The band's line-up is constantly shifting but previous members have included Andrew Moore (piano), Ian Black (7) (bass), Andrew Lowther (bass), Kev Dosdale (guitar) and Tom English, later of Maxïmo Park (drums).

Anna von Hausswolff - Källans återuppståndelse

https://youtu.be/9noLKH9ND0U

From "Dead Magic"

"On Dead Magic, the fourth full-length record from Swedish singer/songwriter Anna von Hausswolff, the listener will encounter sustained moments of darkness and experience immersion in tense, enigmatic, and unnerving sonic environments that evoke the kind of distressing emotions hinted at by the album's overall aesthetic"

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

Goat - Let It Burn

Very 'eavy, very 'umble dark '70s prog vibes from a band straight outta Sweden. Come, come, come to the sabbat...

QuoteGoat, though currently based in Gothenburg, claim to hail from Korpilombolo in Sweden which, according to the band's own publicity, has a history of voodoo worship after a witch doctor came and lived there. Supposedly, when Christian crusaders came and destroyed the village the surviving people fled and placed a curse on the town. This has been described as "a lovely story, if possibly not entirely rooted in reality."

The band started playing music when they were children, as part of a local community tradition, and there have been many incarnations of Goat who have recorded over the last "30 or 40 years". The band performs wearing masks and costumes.

Bently Sheds

Young Galaxy - Show You The Valley

Taken from their self released final album Downtime, Montreal's Young Galaxy went on indefinite hiatus after releasing a follow up ep Snow Leopard later in the year.

Catherine McCandless now releases electronic/folk music under the name Riches alongside dancer/choreographer Wyn Holmes and Stephen Ramsay collaborates with long time friend Jace Lasek of The Besnard Lakes on the electronic/ambient project Light Conductor.

Damien Jurado - 1973

https://youtu.be/BARv4BsFthI

From "The Horizon Just Laughed"

"Profoundly authentic, nostalgic, and graceful throughout, The Horizon Just Laughed does nothing less than reaffirm that Jurado is one of the best songwriters in the business"

jamiefairlie

Darling West - Traveller

https://youtu.be/eRxBeYFX3_U

an Oslo-based Norwegian trio

From "While I Was Asleep"

"They remain in a summer of love mood for Traveller, a Simon & Garfunkel-ish song about a restless soul and choices made, the Krekens' harmonised vocals and fingerpicking lushly augmented by pedal steel and a strings arrangement "

jamiefairlie

Echo Ladies - Darklands

https://youtu.be/t_Af3JMj2qY

shoegaze / dreampop band from Malmö, Sweden

From "Pink Noise"

"With Pink Noise, Echo Ladies take us on a journey through the intricate, epic emotions that make the fabric of our youth and the melancholy of leaving them behind for the uncertainties of adulthood. Pink Noise feels like listening to a soundtrack for the end of an era, where mourning paves the way for new light"

Brundle-Fly

Mekong Glitter - Insecure Men.  Released on Fat Possum in 2018.

Denim, (possibly even late 90s era Blur) influenced(?) lo-fi lounge slackers make what I consider a gem of an album and then sadly disappear.

In many ways Insecure Men – the band led by the fiercely talented songwriter and musician Saul Adamczewski and his schoolmate and stabilising influence, Ben Romans-Hopcraft – are the polar opposite of their former band Fat White Family. Whereas sleaze-mired, country-influenced, drug-crazed garage punks the Fat Whites are a "celebration of everything that is wrong in life", Insecure Men, who blend together exotica, easy listening, lounge and timeless pop music, are, by comparison at least, the last word in wholesomeness.

Frankie Cosmos - Jesse

https://youtu.be/g895FWaEVrU

Greta Kline, American singer-songwriter, daughter of Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates

From "Vessel "

"Kline's lyrics, underscored by offbeat, Phil Elverum-like vocal delivery, teeter on an exquisite line between goofiness and sharp honesty, mundanity and magic. In the end, it comes down hard on the side of magic"

jamiefairlie

Gia Margaret - Groceries

https://youtu.be/uC8ZTAVMG8U

Chicago-based singer-songwriter

From "There's Always Glimmer"

"On her debut album, There's Always Glimmer, Margaret's violent view of songwriting translates to 34 minutes of serene and perceptive storytelling"

jamiefairlie

Grimm Grimm - Final World War

https://youtu.be/cTyhoXFJ9lI

Grimm Grimm is a solo project of London-based musician, recording artist and producer, Koichi Yamanoha

From "Cliffhanger "

"The result is an album that despite its gentle whimsy is a deeply endearing and emotional space to float in, an enduring space to pass the world by in"

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

Tracyanne & Danny - Alabama

In 2018, Tracyanne Campbell from Glasgow's Camera Obscura teamed up with Bristol musician Danny Coughlan, aka Crybaby. This open-hearted country pop beaut is taken from their self-titled debut album.

Brundle-Fly

Love Said (Let's Go) - 77:78.  Released on Heavenly in 2018.

The Bees haven't been heard of since 2010. This little buzz from former band members five years ago was the only indication the species hadn't entirely disappeared.

77:78 is a project from Aaron Fletcher and Tim Parkin (members of Isle Of Wight's finest combo, The Bees). They released their first track as a very limited white label 7" single in February 2018, with their debut album due for release in June 2018.

Gulp - Claudia

https://youtu.be/uIY-gSvHm9A

Gulp is Guto Pryce (Super Furry Animals) and Lindsey Leven

From "All Good Wishes"

"All Good Wishes' is a delightfully giddy album, full of clever ideas, hypnotic rhythms and a wild abandon, that gently draws the listener in to Gulp's velutinous world"

Half Man Half Biscuit - Harsh Times in Umberstone Covert

https://youtu.be/1CcTmhVjVZQ

From "No-One Cares About Your Creative Hub So Get Your Fuckin' Hedge Cut"

"In a sense, and after a 90s lull, it does appear that contemporary culture has shuffled obligingly within Blackwell's sights. Now he can fire away to his heart's content. There is more to them than meets the eye. Always had to be"

Hater - Fall Off

https://youtu.be/Q4vc_oLHplw

From "Siesta "

"They've made a classic pop record that deserves play by anyone who recognizes that songs don't need to make the most noise or be the shiniest new thing to have an impact in the emotional life of the listener. Sometimes gentle and calm gets the job done, and that is definitely the case here"
