Mick Lynch of the RMT doing a pretty stellar job today on various news outlets.

Particularly enjoyed him reducing this tory backbench spod to bleating on about are brave veterans not being able to celebrate armed forces day. Lol.

Burley trying to provoke him into saying 'scabs gonna be choppes' here.

Gullis is the very worst of the Red Wall Tory filth. Surprised he didn't call Lynch a woke cultural-Marxist trans lover.

I've been amused by the media's attempt to find punters who are OUTRAGED about the whole thing. They've inevitably found a few who are like "It's a bit annoying to have your train cancelled" but most follow up with something like "I understand why the strikes are happening, though". Probably most people are looking at their gas bills and how much of a pay rise they need to stay afloat. (Of course, it's not just about pay: a big strike like this never is).

See this has already been posted about but here is a handy compilation

Absolute masterclass in how handle the media - budding lefties take not.  Everyone should be trained to learn these skills.

Calm, clear, concise and alert to and then managing to all the tricks.  Easy in hindsight but Mike should have said to that simpering partridge gimp Madeley "Can I ask you to repeat some lines about some Tories minister? Is that how it works? Can you ask Johnson whether he is elitist, racist liar, you can tell him that someone asked you it, so you are not saying it yourself and that it counts towards your reporting.  Will you do that Richard? go on I dare you."

shoulders

Was impressed by him earlier. Has a lightness of tone at times which avoids him becoming monotonous or overly earnest and most vitally an ability to disarm rhetoric without getting dragged down by the broadcasters tactics, which as we saw above they were not equipped to handle.

Burley in particular who just talked over him despite it being clear the conversation was on a video link delay can't appeal to experience like a bristling primary school teacher browbeating a little boy when she can't even fucking interview someone on even a basic level.

Buelligan

Yeah, he done Jo Coburn and Madeley too today.  Like a zen-master Bob Hoskins, that lad.

Imagine if there was social media during the Miners' Strike, loads of client journalists interrogating Arthur Scargill over his Instagram profile picture.

The way Morgan keeps claiming Lynch seems irritated like he's scored some kind of victory by "irritating" him.

See also Burley's tweet claiming Lynch was flustered when he was knocking back everything dead batted, and in such an assertive way she was unused to. She was the one flapping about like a dying fish.

They don't seem to know what tone to take. He is political in one sense but not a politician and so freer to speak his mind, which disarms them.

I expect Lynch will be given far less air time after this PR disaster for the billionaire elite.

If you thought the 'but the veterans' line of attack was absurd...

Quote"I say to the unions: Please don't be Putin's friend."

Tory MP
@Tobias_Ellwood
says this week's rail strikes are causing "huge self-harm" to the UK, adding that "Russia must be enjoying the self-inflicted distraction".

Fambo Number Mive

Funny how the rail strikes are called a "distraction" from the Ukraine war by Ellwood but not the numerous culture war interventions by Tory ministers or the meddling by Tory ministers in Northern Ireland over Brexit.

Describing working people striking as helping dictators sounds like the sort of thing Putin would do as well.

This is a good response:

if they were Putin's friends you'd be taking them to a private tennis court in exchange for £200k donations to the Conservative party. I'm actually being polite here but there are a bunch of other things you'd also be doing

Can you imagine watching this show for longer than a 2 minute clip? Jesus Christ, no wonder his ratings are in the toilet.

That one is worse for Lynch but only because Moron is the country's leading expert at dragging everyone down to his level and beating them on experience.

phantom_power

How is it a distraction from the Ukraine war anyway? We aren't the ones at war for one thing. This is the 21st Century political tactic isn't it, throw any old emotive shit out in order to show how unreasonable the other side is, rather than actually engaging with the issue at hand

Buelligan

It's bizarre isn't it?  How they always reach for their pearls, WON'T ANYONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN('s exams)!!!1!!? R BRAVE BOYS (will you fukin apologise to them?) and the jeeping oncologists (who save lives, they're cancer specialists, you know).  All their journeys interrupted and their patients simply dead now.

Yeah, they care so fucking much about the kids, the army vets, the sick, that they'll send you to jail now just for carrying glue but they won't fund any of those things or fight for them, ah, no.  And they hate pearl-clutching wokies.

phantom_power

The Armed Forces day is the biggest joke. I don't remember that even being a thing a few years ago. According to Wikipedia it started in 2009 so it isn't some lifelong tradition that is being ruined

Buelligan

Will you say sorry to our veterans?!!!!?1!!

From the Manchester Evening News.   Just another case of using exploited working class people to justify the crushing of working class people.

shoulders

There's a sense that a moment is due to arrive when enough ordinary people realise who the enemy is, what's happening to the fruits of their labour while they are condemned to live in shit and asked by the fucking Bank of England to 'not ask for a big pay rise' while higher earners scoop up these enormous profits rather than directing it to those in need. Are they volunteering to forgo their bonuses? Of course they fucking aren't.

People need to organise, get on the street and/or use the technology at our disposal to create something better at micro and macro level that replaces the existing system so fundamentally that it is simply forced to adapt or to die.

Sebastian Cobb

The RMT twitter account has some good content as well.

Fambo Number Mive

Northern is trying to make staff move from a 35 hour four day week to a 40 hour five day week with no additional pay, according to RMT rep Steve Shaw:

Quote"Watching the news and listening to the radio you hear all this talk of 'inflation busting pay rises'. But for most people it's not about pay, it's about conditions, it's about redundancies. The reforms that have put forward would take this industry back 30 years. All the improvements we have made since the railways were privatised would be lost.

"For example we currently work a 35 hour, four day week, they want us to do a 40 hour, five day week for no additional pay. They are looking at closing ticket offices. They want to bring Sunday within the working week for no additional pay. We get time and quarter for working Sundays at the minute. They're talking about the removal of guards.

"You hear about train drivers' wages, but most train drivers are not in the RMT, they're in a different union. RMT members are guards, cleaners, back office staff, signallers. Lots are of them are on the living wage, or just above - they're on about £20,000 a year. To suggest that these people are earning fortunes is just nonsense...

Full Mick Lynch v Kay Burley interview.

I used this term extremely sparingly nowadays but what a colossal bitch she is.

phes

What a humiliating lack of competence and self control

frajer

Thick as mince and disturbingly unprofessional. Her attempt to gain victimhood (I'm sorry you feel the need to ridicule me Mr Lynch)" and little point-scoring jabs throughout were cringe-inducing.

Sebastian Cobb

I think he's going on Peston tonight so we might get to see him rip the piss out of someone thicker than Burley.

I think the fact he managed to rinse everyone on the same day meant the media didn't collectively have chance to sus him out properly. There's a clip of the BBC today trying to ad-hom him as self-promoting:

dontpaintyourteeth

Long story, but this whole situation caused enough of a problem at my work that I told my boss to shove it lol

I might be a bit fucked

I'm still on the RMT's side, mind you.

Mick Lynch is on Question Time tomorrow.
