According to the Scum newspaper, a source said Kay has "lined up huge venues across the country including in Manchester, London and Birmingham and is hoping to announce it in September"

Kay's first tour since 2011.

He should be able to squeeze 3 or 4 DVDs out of that.

Can I shock you?

Eh remember queuein outside Lidls what were all that about

The man loves garlic bread, what can I say...

Looking forward to more news about his nan being silly and misreading signage because she is old and silly.

Has Peacock and Gamble doing Peter Kay disappeared off YouTube? I can't find it.

Honestly think his stand-up is funny. Top of the Tower certainly is.

oggyraiding

I saw him live as a child, I think the tour that came about shortly after his first stand up DVD came out. Cannot remember anything about it. Kids on the playground loved him, even though we didn't know about clackers and The A-Team. I don't rate his stand up, and I hated the X-Factor parody where he played a northern Irish transwoman.

On the flipside, That Peter Kay Thing, Phoenix Nights, and Car Share, are all very funny and well written. How much of that is to do with collaborators I don't know.

Just remembered Max & Paddy's Road To Nowhere, that was total irredeemable shit.

Top of the Tower was great, and shows how lazy his subsequent shows were.

Didn't know it was on there on its own, but the account that had all the shows on has gone too.
Found this though:

Malcy

Had front row centre seat for the cancelled tour and was hugely disappointed. Will be aiming for a similar ticket again this time.

It was all downhill from there. Apparently he's very hated on the Manchester comedy scene for being a joke thief - I definitely reckon it was the collaborators that made Phoenix Nights and That Peter Kay Thing so funny. Max and Paddy was a huge disappointment.

Twilkes

One specific joke thief anecdote is he was on TV telling a 'you could have cut the air with specialist air cutting equipment' joke, very soon after the joke's writer Hovis Presley had died, that stuck in quite a few craws.

I doubt the 'Manchester Comedy Scene' matters when he is breaking record and entertaining millions.,

For 'Manchester Comedy Scene', read 'close friends and people who supported you when you were a nobody'.

I know he's done some adverts and some shitty tricks with his DVDs but he doesn't seem like a particularly egregious money grabber. Has he ever been on a panel show? We barely hear from him for years unless he's promoting something.

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

What was all that shit about him being close to death a couple of years ago? Even my sister, who works for the NHS, got reliably informed by a colleague that he was a regular patient at Christie's in Manchester for some sort of aggressive cancer. Whawerethadallabout etc.

More penny-pinching from Peter

anon writes:
"When Peter Kay did his charity song with Susan Boyle, he asked his video director to bring separate DVDs of each camera's shots around to his house so that he could oversee the edit. At the end of the day, Kay handed the director a carrier bag containing the jewel cases from all the DVDs saying, 'They're 20p each and I don't need them, so take them off of the bill.'"

It was never quite made public but it was known by those in the know that he was ill, several times, which is why several announced projects didn't happen (not just the tours, but Malachy's Millions, that Secret Millionaire parody he was writing with Jo Enright).
I don't want to say too much. PM me if you're curious.

Yes, didn't he cancel all public appearances and a tour? The other credible theory I heard for that was that it involved a close family member who was ill.

Another Popbitch story about him:

"One story goes that he told an arena he was playing that he wanted a pound for every car parked in their car park. The management replied that it was an unusual request and not something they'd ever done before; to which he trotted out his well-worn line that punters wouldn't be parking there if he wasn't on, so he deserves a share, etc.

Eventually they concede and the demand is folded into the contract. Come settlement time, the comedian is poring over the details with a fine-tooth comb and sees a figure of £8 a night listed under 'Additional Revenue'. Further investigation reveals this is the car parking money he angled for.

£8? For an entire arena? Are they having a laugh? No, they tell him. He asked for a pound for every car that parked in their car park, and the arena has eight spaces in the loading bay. The big car park he'd had his eye on? That was owned and operated by NCP, outside the venue's control..."

Martin Van Buren Stan

That's funny but I'm not buying that one either.

Old Thrashbarg

Did you buy his DVD of chat show appearances?
