Thanks for all the advice!  Completely forgot about freecycle.  We actually inherited our current sofa which is comfy but unfortunately smells of cat piss.  We can't un-stink it, despite our best efforts.

Last few sofas we've bought from chain stores have been absolute rubbish, literally fell to bits after a couple of years. So next time we'll get one from a dedicated sofa manufacturer. If I was in the UK it would be this lot

What colour was your cat? Basically you just need to rub the piss of an oppositely coloured dog on it and the stink will lift right out.
