Alex Kidd is called Alex Kidd because it came on a kid.

I wonder if Michael Jackson's Moonwalker will be on the Mega Drive Mini.

Do you reckon they will ever make a console that has more than 64 bits?

No.

Is it beautiful? Yes. And I speak from authority, as this is my main keyboard:

Would.

Back in the day I paid £200 for the little known Sega egge-a-drive:

Have to say, it was pretty disappointing.

By what means are those eggs connected to one another, please.

Why would you want to connect eight Sega egge-a-drives?

Suffered the same fate as the Dreamcast. Pirates cracked the console early in its life and it never recovered.

Because if they aren't connected your system is only an 1 bit system rather than an 8 bits one.

There weren't many good games for the Sega Egge-a-Drive but the shoot-'em-up Shellfire is worth checking out, as is the puzzler Krax.  Sport fans may get something out of Poach K College Basketball.  Likewise, fans of war based boardgames may find some entertainment in the videogame conversion of the enduring strategy classic Whisk.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
YOU SAID EGG!
LIKE A BIRD'S EGG.

AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Seriously though, looking forward to playing B-Egg-er's Prince on my new RetroPi machine.

I guess clever techy people still make MegaDrive ROMs?  Either totally original ones, or messed about with old games?

Has anyone looked into this and can recommend any cool ones?
Like the fan-made Sonic 3 Complete, mentioned earlier.

Sebastian Cobb

I've been told it's still a good platform to work on if you fancy trying your hand at some low-level programming.

Kelvin

Not really sure what the last two posts have got to do with eggs.

Let me tell you what that is

Eyes at the top

Nostrils where you think the eyes are

What you think is its moustache is its jaggedy open mouth

And it has a tongue poking out

Yeah bet you feel somewhat stupid now

That is your favourite character of all time right there

Sebastian Cobb

If anyone wants one of these, I spotted quite a few of them in the middle aisle of lidl when I was in there yesterday.

£60 I think. A quick google suggests you can get it cheaper online.

Spiteface

£52 on Amazon.

They look cool, but the presence of Eternal Champions and Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition but only supplying the 3-button pads in the box bothers me so much.

Yes, I know they're the only 2 games that need 6 buttons and the original 3-button pad is more iconic, but have you tried playing Street Fighter II using the start button to toggle between punches and kicks?

Sebastian Cobb

I've still got my megadrive and modded a switch to flip it to ntsc/60hz so for me, that £60 would be better put towards a flashcart.

I have OpenEmu emulator for my mac and an original megadrive controller from eBay, and I can download rom files for free of any megadrive games I want.  Amongst other systems OpenEmu also emulates Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Game Gear, Master System, NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Playstation 1 and Game Cube.

Out of interest why is the emulation route so anathema for some people?  Is it that you don't feel people should get this stuff for free, or do you like collecting the physical consoles themselves?

I find that I tend to stick to things more if I have a limited selection.

Don't know, love my Snes mini, I played through Earthbound, Mega Man X and Link to the Past on snes9x a few years previous, played FF6 on the Playstation port years before that, but I'm still eager to play them all again on it.

I suppose it's the curation and not having unlimited possibilities, unless you really strongly want to play a particular thing, in that case emulation is free so...

They are better as gifts than buying them for yourself.  Or if you're not an enthusiast and nostalgia is worth the cost of entry.  Hard to tell what the target market is.  Also it's about as plug and play as you can get.

Pink Gregory

Is there anything on it that isn't on the much-released Sega Mega Drive collection?
