Quote from: Pseudopath on May 18, 2024, 05:24:21 PMThis was amazing. Conner's crap English accent reminded me of Bob Odenkirk (which is never a bad thing).

Same, it straightaway conjured up the memory of the Super Pan infomercial from Mr Show.

The Mollusk

Dude's released another short film. Only watched the trailer but looks similarly unhinged to The Mask.

Ron Superior

Fucking brilliant.

On top of everything else, Conner's really proving himself to be a brilliant actor.

Also Mikal Cronin's music for this was awesome.

frajer

Holy shit. Loved that.

Spoiler alert
ULTIMATE COREY.

Incredible stuff. O'Malley is so good.

Swoz_MK

Coreys & The Mask 2023 are really quite special. Bit gutted I'd never heard of him before this thread as having just watched Standup Solutions I'd have loved to have seen that live.
Some of his shorter youtube videos have been a bit more hit and miss but he really hits a (lazy) Tim & Eric meets Morris sweet spot.

frajer

My mind keeps replaying this one.

I know "Lynchian" is overused but that scene where O'Malley is sat in the hotel room chair just staring with a slack but intent expression on his face is something that could have slotted straight into The Return.

He really knows how to use his physicality for maximum impact and here it's fantastically unsettling. Same with the lurching walk out of the desert at the end, it's funny but also genuinely unnerving.

Famous Mortimer

My only note is "maybe don't do that thing where you talk to randos in the street any more". His stuff is incredible enough to not need that.

Ultimate Corey reminded me of when the gang boss puts on the mask in The Mask.

In a sense I get you but

Loved Coreys. He's a brilliant actor. I went to see the film Sleep last night and spotted his name in the credits of one of the trailers (I Saw The TV Glow). It's got good reviews but I might go watch it purely for COM even if it's only a bit-part role.

The Mollusk

I love how suitably understated his character is in Joe Pera Talks With You. Like most of the show there's a pleasantry that conceals a soft melancholy but of course with his character it's a little more overt. The Perfect Egg Bite makes me laugh so much. "I NEED A WIN!!"

The Mollusk

Just watched Coreys, loved it. Dude is making some next level unhinged art right now that for me brilliantly personifies how overwhelming and unbearable the state of the world (and specifically America) and technology has become in recent years. His concepts on paper aren't breaking new ground but the way he executes this stuff brings a level of genuine paranoia and rage and fatigue that I've not really seen anywhere else, least of all from a comedian.

Loving that he's making all this stuff on mostly his own terms and creatively he's really on a roll at the moment, but equally if he got picked up to work on something bigger that would be very exciting too.

QDRPHNC

Coreys was brilliant, one of the best things he's done. He seems to work best with a like-minded team.

Ron Superior

Another thing about him is that he's a generous straight man too. This is an insanely crap way to watch it but it's the only version I can find online. But this is one of my favourite ITYSL sketches. No one does over the top rage like Conner but in this scene he plays it just intense enough that it hammers home how uncomfortable the situation is, but not so much that it overshadows the ridiculousness of the rest of the scene.

I love how every cut adds another level of frustration and tension, it's so perfectly ridiculous. And then his face at the hat placement at the end is just the perfect "ugh, fuck this guy". I wonder if the scene was his idea, it certainly has some Conner hallmarks.

Possibly my favourite exchange in the sketch:

"If you'd just take the hat and glasses off..."
"He said NO, Janine!"

It's his resignation to the idea of Tim as a force of nature that can no longer be reasoned with, and being almost more frustrated with Janine for her failure to understand this.

Ron Superior

Haha yeah, exactly! So many little bits in it are hilarious. "Well, something spooked him" and the way the girlfriend is resignedly turning up the volume, trying to not look as she did it. And Conner just getting wound up by everyone.

ASFTSN

Great to see some love for that sketch as I rarely see it mentioned and it's a favourite. O'Malley's forced bitter "ahahahahaha" about the trash hutch is painfully well observed spousal/friend-of-a-friend awkwardness.

Famous Mortimer

I just watched "Rebranded Mickey Mouse" and it's incredible. My favourite thing I've seen of his, a fantastic idea escalated perfectly.

Conner O'Malley (and Cole Kush) has been up to this

Did anyone see Dayworld? It seems to have disappeared from the internet.

Loved Day World, although all I remember now really was a creepy baby or something? Alan Resnick was involved in that I think (or had a character modelled after him) and I noticed he did the ai bits in Corey's

In absence of catching Connor when he was in UK I'm excited to see Resnick next month in Bristol!

That was Cole, wasn't it? [well, "Dole"]

Ron Superior

I'm really excited about his upcoming film Rap World he's made with Eric Rahill and Jack Bensinger, both of whom are hilarious. Eric in particular is someone I've got a bit obsessed with. There's something very unique about him. Here's a short he made last year, which I love.

Anyway, they're doing loads of showings of Rap World in the US at the moment, and Eric and Jack have said on their brilliant podcast Joy Tactics that they do with the also hilarious Nate Varone that they'll be coming to the UK in November so I'm hoping that might also include some screenings of the film.

Anyone heard anything about this film?

Not sure I've ever laughed so much at a talk show appearance:

YES!

Thank you so much for telling me about this. I agree, funniest talk show slot ever, all the talk shows can now finally be dismantled and returned to storage. Damn, he's funny. Couldn't figure out if Meyers was finding it hilarious or aggravating. Loved it :)

was perfect.

The Mollusk

He's such a darkly commanding presence, even out of context on the sofa there, being relatively grounded and in his normal guy glasses, he gives off an unstable aura that keeps me on edge even though I know it's an act. The bit where he randomly and unexpectedly "opens it up to questions" killed me. (Fake edit: mentioned above)
