The mad thing is that he's dragging a lot of people along with him. People who, if they saw him talking like this 2 years ago, if that was their first exposure to him, they would say "this guy's fucking mental".

But he's essentially groomed his audience into following him. That's what all these grifters do. That's what Peterson did too, started off talking about fairly down-to-earth topics and then went into these weird as fuck religious rants.

And people who cannot possibly comprehend this stuff, because it's incomprehensible, say "yeah, that makes a lot of sense!"

I also thought that Brand was selling a feeling of intellectualism to his viewers. People thinking they're so fucking clever because they don't believe the mainstream media, they believe some guy on youtube instead, but they're too stupid to see the flaws in it. And now he's selling them quasi-spirituality.

I'd like to see a Brand supporter try and repeat or explain anything he's said over the last 12 months. I bet they can't.

Having a quick look on his channel, his viewer numbers seem to be down. He certainly got a lot of new viewers during the pandemic and anti-vax stuff, but he also peaked then, and you can't cover that topic forever.

That clip with Peterson is interesting because Brand's cadence and intonation and rhythmn hasn't changed at all really from his pre-Jesus days. He used to do a similar kind of spiel on the radio, with perhaps slightly different content, but the same slightly jokey pomposity, smattering of half-done intellectual references, self-consciously manic progression. It sounds glib, I guess is what I'm trying to say, as if he can't prevent himself from laughing slightly at how silly he's being, which obviously made more sense when he was a stand-up comedian and not some kind of failed YouTube cult leader.

There's something about web forums that the text from a knowledgeable party looks exactly the same as the text from an absolute fuckwit, spelling and punctuation aside, as opposed to a few years ago when any kind of amateur publication looked, well, amateur. So people read fuckwit's opinions on forums and news websites and think they're just as valid as the knowledgeable.

I think the same thing has now happened with video - it doesn't cost a lot to get a camera and microphone that gives you a production quality very close to BBC, Sky etc. So there's an undercurrent of 'well look at this video, looks like the telly to me so I'm sure this guy isn't a fuckwit'. So people that shouldn't really get traction find it easier to get more than they should.

It's difficult to imagine being the children of some of these people. At some point you're going to have to look through their impeccably-documented day-to-day career and see the decline, the allegations, the manias, and in all likelihood some of your peers will be way ahead of you. You'll naturally want to defend your dad, of course, but that's a hell of a thing to cope with as a young'un. I found it difficult enough coming to terms with a photo I found of my dad with a mullet in the early 80s.

At least Peterson's daughter was old enough to simply ride the grift when it started, which is probably about as good an outcome  as you could hope for outside of changing your name and never ever mentioning who your dad is.

Brand would often go on similarly verbose nonsensical rants on the radio but it would then be followed by Matt Morgan completely undermining him and Brand acknowledging he was talking shite.

I don't think he's cracking up or losing it or anything like that, it's all 100% a calculated grift.
