Which one was he - the flamboyant detective or the soap star turned manufactured pop sensation? I always get them confused...

He's friends with god now. so if you talk shit he'll get god to go to your house and kick your ass

God loves sexual assault, it's well known: that book is full of it.

QuoteA hazmat dredger, please, to the stretch of the River Thames in which Russell Brand was recently baptised, in an event apparently conducted by TV adventurer and chief scout Bear Grylls. I know, it's incredible: Thames Water is no longer responsible for the biggest piece of shit in the river.

^ Came here to post that!

Also this.

He's having a breakdown, surely. You'd think he was wealthy enough to take a step back and sort himself out rather than doing ... whatever the fuck this is.

That non-stop rant would be even better with the muffled sound of a neighbour knocking on the wall in the background.

Mobius

just an incredible one-two combo of brand update posts there. i'm sort of speechless, cunts gone absolutely bananas to a degree beyond any sort of parody.

i wonder if anyone's tried to get a word out of matt morgan, trevor lock, mr g and co about what they think of brand now.

Quote from: phantom_power on May 15, 2024, 11:46:52 AMSeems like he is on the gack

It's like the up side of bipolar. The mania part. Somebody should appear from his side, put a blanket around his shoulders and gently walk him away from the camera for a sweet cup of tea and a nice sit down.

It feels wrong to witness it.

phantom_power

Or it could just be that he is a massively egotistic narcissist with a persecution complex

wobinidan

The mad thing is that he's dragging a lot of people along with him. People who, if they saw him talking like this 2 years ago, if that was their first exposure to him, they would say "this guy's fucking mental".

But he's essentially groomed his audience into following him. That's what all these grifters do. That's what Peterson did too, started off talking about fairly down-to-earth topics and then went into these weird as fuck religious rants.

And people who cannot possibly comprehend this stuff, because it's incomprehensible, say "yeah, that makes a lot of sense!"

I also thought that Brand was selling a feeling of intellectualism to his viewers. People thinking they're so fucking clever because they don't believe the mainstream media, they believe some guy on youtube instead, but they're too stupid to see the flaws in it. And now he's selling them quasi-spirituality.

I'd like to see a Brand supporter try and repeat or explain anything he's said over the last 12 months. I bet they can't.

wobinidan

Having a quick look on his channel, his viewer numbers seem to be down. He certainly got a lot of new viewers during the pandemic and anti-vax stuff, but he also peaked then, and you can't cover that topic forever.

The thumbnails are really something though.

Russell Brand clearly lives in a near perpetual state of alarm.

That clip with Peterson is interesting because Brand's cadence and intonation and rhythmn hasn't changed at all really from his pre-Jesus days. He used to do a similar kind of spiel on the radio, with perhaps slightly different content, but the same slightly jokey pomposity, smattering of half-done intellectual references, self-consciously manic progression. It sounds glib, I guess is what I'm trying to say, as if he can't prevent himself from laughing slightly at how silly he's being, which obviously made more sense when he was a stand-up comedian and not some kind of failed YouTube cult leader.

I've only watched that rant and it's like he's circling around a vague point without ever landing anything or saying anything specific.

Like if you say;

"The cyclone of ambivalent forces that bind the soul to the invisible and inevitable authority that subjugated our ancestors and still manifests within our systems or governance and education while being inexorably guided by the legacy of heredity who care only about the continued status quo and their own enrichment blah blah blah"

Word salad. Do you have to make a coherent point if the sentence never ends and the grifter you are talking to doesn't want to make you look bad by asking you what the fuck you're talking about?

jobotic

Exactly. He doesn't believe in any of this. It's a performance done to make money and attempt to get away with rape. He hasn't lost it, he knows what he's doing.

It's disturbing how rackets like youtube channels, politics, pyramid schemes, preaching, stand up comedy and after dinner speaking overlap. Anyone who's any good at one of them can easily jump to another one to keep the gravy train going.

Stand up comedy, conspiracy theories, it's all good for our Russell. Add a dash of religious conversion to obfuscate sexual assault accusations et voila!

There's something about web forums that the text from a knowledgeable party looks exactly the same as the text from an absolute fuckwit, spelling and punctuation aside, as opposed to a few years ago when any kind of amateur publication looked, well, amateur. So people read fuckwit's opinions on forums and news websites and think they're just as valid as the knowledgeable.

I think the same thing has now happened with video - it doesn't cost a lot to get a camera and microphone that gives you a production quality very close to BBC, Sky etc. So there's an undercurrent of 'well look at this video, looks like the telly to me so I'm sure this guy isn't a fuckwit'. So people that shouldn't really get traction find it easier to get more than they should.

Noodle Lizard

It's difficult to imagine being the children of some of these people. At some point you're going to have to look through their impeccably-documented day-to-day career and see the decline, the allegations, the manias, and in all likelihood some of your peers will be way ahead of you. You'll naturally want to defend your dad, of course, but that's a hell of a thing to cope with as a young'un. I found it difficult enough coming to terms with a photo I found of my dad with a mullet in the early 80s.

At least Peterson's daughter was old enough to simply ride the grift when it started, which is probably about as good an outcome  as you could hope for outside of changing your name and never ever mentioning who your dad is.

Yeah I thought the exact same thing.

Brand would often go on similarly verbose nonsensical rants on the radio but it would then be followed by Matt Morgan completely undermining him and Brand acknowledging he was talking shite.

I don't think he's cracking up or losing it or anything like that, it's all 100% a calculated grift.

If you think stand up is easy and lucrative maybe you should try it? Take your show to Edniburgh, find out how easy and lucrative that is?
