The cast of Ab Fab are reuniting for a TV special ("Absolutely Fabulous: Inside Out") to be aired on GOLD later this year.

Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Jane Horrocks and Julia Sawalha will all be taking part in the 2-hour retrospective, which will be the first time they have reunited on screen since 2016.

The documentary will feature original scripts and unseen clips, and will see the core cast joined by other regulars, celebrity guest stars and famous fans for "unheard anecdotes, exclusive backstage secrets and personal reflections amongst a glittering array" of archive clips. The documentary promises to feature original scripts, high-fashion costumes and "never-before-seen moments from the rehearsal room that will bring viewers behind the scenes to see how the magic of Ab Fab was made."

It's probably the most effective show for proving the law of diminishing returns, so you could start from series one and be gradually proven right.

In truth I fell in love with the first few seasons so hard that they became characters I want to spend time watching, even if the show itself is a bit naff.

Ab Fab is something I loved a lot when it was on first (and my dad was a huge fan). I still like to watch it. Drunk/High shitbags being outrageous is my absolute trash. The physical comedy of Patsy and Eddie drunkenly falling out of cars/down stairs/into graves is great. Unfortunately I cannot recommend it to younger people because, let's be blunt, Eddie's an abusive parent. I know, I KNOW, the joke is that the mother is the one chasing stupid trends and behaving like a petulant teenager and the daughter is the grown-up sensible one. I know. There are also a few jokes about Patsy "waking up under" famous people that uhm. Yeah. So the central premise hasn't aged well and neither have some of the jokes.

However, I will say the movie's great in that it's set chronologically within the same universe (so you're not expected to believe that French and Lumley are still in their forties) and you don't need to know a ton of Lore to understand it (Saffy has a kid now. You don't need any of the backstory from series five or six, it's literally irrelevant to the movie's plot). And it caps the series off nicely. It's what a sitcom movie should be.
