Quote from: Alex HorneWe've got someone in the next series, series 19, from abroad who's a big name overseas, which we've not done before

series 18's not been on yet but we've got our first small bit of news about the next one - seems like there's going to be a non uk-based comedian/personality on series 19 of taskmaster. not something i'd have expected, although they've had a fair few foreign born comics on before, they'd all been performing in the uk for some time.

the taskmaster subreddit seem mostly convinced it's either paul f tompkins, or one of a number of people from the dropout youtube channel, none of whom i'm at all familiar with.

it feels to me like they're trying to push taskmaster in america now, with alex and greg travelling there to promote it on late night tv earlier this year. getting a "big name" us comic on a series would fit in with that brand expansion, although means we might end up getting another mae martin situation, who moved back to the us after winning their series and then couldn't return to take part in the champion of champions episode.

thoughts? speculations?

Seeing how this is known because Alex was going to whisper the name to Tim Lovejoy on Sunday Brunch I think you can safely rule out the Dropout YouTubers ... cos how the fuck would he know who they were?

Also, the Dropout bloke shared a pic with Alex at the TM house on social media. Seeing how tight they are about keeping a lid on their line up it seems mad to think he's filming.

neveragain

Paul F Tompkins would be tremendous.

After the success of Ylvis on the Norway version it's going to be that Dutch Links Rechts guy. An American seems more likely.

I can think of someone who is american, has a big audience, was a featured player on dropout, and has worked with alex horne before

Spoiler alert

According to this Reddit post, that person has a standing invitation to go on Taskmaster whenever they want as well.

Potentially Spoilery Link

As much as I love Dropout, it really does feel like most folks from that platform would be a niche cut outside of the subreddit world.

In the absence of any hope of the US taking another crack at the format, Paul F. Tompkins on the UK version would be the dream. We can but hope. He's been on the podcast, right?

I think he'd be fun on it. not saying i think it's super likely but sure let's say this is a called shot

Scoops

with regards to the aforementioned standing invitation,

Spoiler alert
i'm sure he's a perfectly nice chap, but seeing hank green on taskmaster would be such a bizarre blast from the past of my teenage years spent amongst all the online spaces and mini-subcultures populated by his fans. every time he was on screen i'd be having tumblr war flashbacks

I've never heard of him, so that's that one of the traditional five boxes ticked off.

A few times. I believe the last time he was he was talking about how he would be willing to go on the British version, what outfit he would wear for the tasks etc. So he does seem like the best bet at this point. Someone more bothered than me, go check his tour dates, quick!

He's on the Comedy Bang Bang UK tour from September 4-12.  The audience records for s19 haven't been announced yet, but seeing as the Horne Section also have dates in early September and then again in October it looks likely they'll be mid September.  So it's possible.

15 million Youtube subscribers and lord knows how many paid platform subscribers as well. I'd suggest they've got a good four or five people who'd be every bit as well known as a decent number of previous contestants. Or maybe I don't understand how internet fame works. Even if they are niche, though, imagine how good it would be to have one of their heavy hitters on Taskmaster.

Paul F Tompkins would be an incredible contestant, though.

Bad Ambassador

I was hoping for Eric Andre.

Pimhole

Kate Berlant's just gone bigtime in America and was good on the terrible US Taskmaster. But yeah, PFT would be great.

Snrub

Recording dates have been announced as 18th-24th September which I think lines up with some of the above

The Tapings are up and coming, who are we predicting to be the whole cast/who do we want to see?

I want Sarah Key worth on... They're great!

JOLT

Also whoever leaks the info, could you do what devil puppet did last time and leave initials, it's super fun guessing them and realising that a favourite of yours is on.

BritishHobo

I would also like them to do initials, especially if one of them is PFT

SK has a gig on one of the taping dates.

No one this time around has cancelled gigs once the taping dates were confirmed - which is how Bridget Christie, Sarah Millican & John Robins were all figured out before taping.

That was actually me. Alas no tickets this time.

I'm sure a few on here will have got them.

JOLT

Soooo... Tapings are today right? Keep us posted!

I would just like to add that I asked PFT on Tuesday at the Comedy Bang Bang show in Dublin whether he was going to be on Taskmaster and he said no.  But I guess he has to say no, doesn't he?  I then asked if he'd heard the rumours he was going to be on and he said he had.  So make of that what you will...
