Be careful, if you get too overexcited then it might not get posted just to spite us

Ladies and gentlemen - THE PRESTIGE.

Now let that be a lesson to you.

I watched a couple of Hale and Pace sketches recently, I think it was pretty much the first time I've ever seen them. I found them utterly dreadful, the real pits.

The Bumlord

Quite nostalgic for the hot air balloon BBC ident at least

beanheadmcginty

A real one-two punch of "dated badly" in the last 10 minutes

Zuul the Gatekeeper, Vinz Clortho and Gozer the Destructor, ideal choices to host a BBC One light entertainment variety programme

beanheadmcginty

I'd like to see Gozer dressed in full Rolf Harris costume before I decide on the commission.

I remember they did that ad for breath freshener in 1991.

They were funny as those two bouncers.  I remember a joke about the word "taut" or "tort" and the phrase "I t'ought I taw a pussy cat."

They had a whole series based off those characters in 1988.

It's weird how Norman Pace was in Pushing Up Daisies and Lee Pace was in Pushing Daisies. Are they by any chance related?

The most recent update on Hale's Wikipedia was 2021 and Pace's 2022. Pace has mostly been on stage lately so his most recent IMDb credit is 2018.

I wonder if they didn't give h&p@bbc. a real internet address thingy because then people would email it, although I'm not sure why it would be bad if people emailed it.

I am trying to psych myself up to watch this. Since both of them were teachers surely it's purely a matter of statistics that one of them was a wrongun. Isn't John Inverdale cancelled now and all? Or just "cancelled"?

The ampersand is illegal in "h&p@bbc.co.uk", and the email would bounce back. But why on earth they didn't go with "h&p@thebeeb" or just anything else at all.

"H And P At BBC Dot" is just indescribably rubbish.

Now I'm chuckling at Alan Partridge describing a programme that Inverdale pitched in which he (Inverdale) drives speedboats with his top off.

Gotta hand it to them, this show is stunningly unwatchable.

Imagine getting a date back round to yours then sticking this on and demanding they watch it. Getting really upset if they visibly are not enjoying it. Everything.

You should go full Pat Farrell in Alpha Papa and kidnap H&P and force them to record an episode 7 at gunpoint.

beanheadmcginty

For those wondering about Renfield - his real name is Jon Vine and he lives in Tunbridge Wells and was registered at Companies House under Renfield Bespoke Productions. He's made a number of appearances at charity events over the years (photos on Facebook), mostly to do with diabetes, so my assumption is that he was an existing character that the programme makers met at some corporate event and decided to put in the programme.

Finally got through the final episode after several days. What more is there I can say about it? It's no surprise that this killed Hale and Pace's careers entirely dead and regulated them to bit parts forever afterwards.

The only thing I noted about it was that, if you follow H&P's logic that a Croft is a highland cottage, and a bell is something that goes dingaling, then why do they keep calling Annabel Croft "Highland Dingaling", when that would make her "Croft Annabel"?

Unless that's part of the joke, and I missed it because as far as I could see there hadn't been any jokes at any point previously?

April Fool's Day
A one-off comedy drama on ITV starring Hale & Pace

Haven't watched it, but "made in 1995, broadcast in 1997" suggests that it would be foolish to press play with anything resembling optimism.
