Season 22 - Episode 3 - MoneyBart

Banksy dun a couch gag. So self-deprecating of them! They are so cool and hip and with it.

The episode opens with "Who's That Lady" playing and a sexy new woman arriving at the school. Dahlia is an old student who then went to Yale. Lisa talks herself up but Dahlia tells her that her extracurricular activities are not enough for an Ivy League school. Flanders knocks at the Simpsons household to tell Bart that he is resigning as the Little League coach and Homer doesn't want to do it. Bart looks for a new hobby but then finds Lisa has taken over as coach as an extracurricular activity which is the plot of the episode.

Lisa knows nothing about Baseball. Milhouse appears to reveal his parents are brother and sister. Lisa goes to Moe's to learn about Baseball but it is like that bit in Moneyball where all the coaches are old school. Then Lisa finds Frink and the three nerds talking about Baseball. The nerds all find the stats behind Baseball interesting and give Lisa a book about it. The team start winning due to Lisa using stats like that bit in Moneyball where the team start winning because of stats. Bart hates the stats approach so decides to go against it like that bit in Moneyball in which Philip Seymour Hoffman goes against the stats approach.

Lisa drops Bart from the team despite him hitting a home run. The team are annoyed at Lisa but she says the home run was a fluke. Bart and Lisa are fighting at the dinner table. Homer does some funnies. Marge wants the family to stick together. Homer backs Lisa. Bart becomes a Little League commentator. The team are still winning so Bart is sad. Marge takes Bart to the fair on the day of a big game. Lisa calls Bart as she wants him back as Ralph is too "juiced" to continue. Mike Scioscia has recovered from his radiation poisoning to convince Bart to return to the team.

Bart returns and doesn't listen to Lisa again. The whole crowd get excited and Lisa realises that although it is statistically improbable it is still exciting so I guess that makes it okay for some reason. Bart fails to make the home run and the team lose. Lisa and Bart make up. Credits roll.

3/10

It is funny that before I watched Moneyball that most of my knowledge about Baseball came from The Simpsons.

Season 22 - Episode 2 - Loan-a Lisa

The couch gag ends with the family being put to death.

Wow...if only they took the hint.

Isn't that from the infamous panda-rape episode

Pauline Walnuts

That was a real 'raped by a panda' moment.

Yeah. Burns makes Homer do humiliating stuff in public.

In fairness, that "baby made a boom boom" bit is quite funny.

The show used to be so funny and never cared what people thought of it now it is a shell of its former self PC and giving into peer pressure changing voice actors like anyone cared till the snowflakes made a big deal about it would love to see it put out its misery.

I just looked the plot up on Wiki and it's an episode long parody of Inception and features Homer wearing adult diapers because he keeps wetting the bed.
In fairness making an incomprehensible, emotionless parody of Inception is pretty accurate. I often have the Simpsons on for background noise as I'm making dinner/walking around my house, and sometimes you can tell by the animation style changing that a new episode has started, but in the bland CG widescreen years, you can almost never tell by the plot.

Nobody cared until some people who actually did care spoke up about it. If only the people who cared had stayed in their place, nobody would've cared.

Madhair's right, you're not gonna have a great time here. Entirely unrelated, but I heard we have an Ignore User option now.

Anybody who thinks modern Simpsons is more "woke" (progressive) has a warped view of the world.

I think the last time it made me laugh was in 2003. Also, the panda rape is fairly recent and that's hardly PC, but Lee is clearly rump ravaged about Apu.

Video Game Fan 2000

Tomacco, the revenge of the dolphins, Saddlesore Galactica, the leprosy episode and Maude dying all came within a few years around 2000 and at the time it felt like a death spiral a beloved series would never recover from. An astonishing run of shit from something that was only a few years after such highs. Just thinking about what were considered "bad" episodes in season 8 and 9 compared to 11 and 12...

It wasn't just the lack of good jokes, it was the mean spiritedness and wedging cruelty into every plot to the point of absurdity. Hard to believe it went on for another two decades in exactly the same spirit with only a short period where it seemed to pick up again.

A least you rarely see people list the Tokyo episode and HOMR as classics anymore.

Season 22 - Episode 4 - Treehouse of Horror XXI

Homer and Bart are carving pumpkins when a pumpkin falls on Homer's head and lights on fire. Then there is a DVR joke with Frink and then he kills himself. Frankenstein arrives and says he is going to watch The Office. The opening titles to the episode are a parody of the opening to The Office US with monsters.

War and Pieces

Bart and Milhouse are playing a violent Zii game when Marge tells them they should play a board game instead. They find a dusty old game called Jumanji Satan's Path. They start playing but the game turns all the other board game into reality. Chief Wiggum is killed by a huge chess piece. Selma plays that dating game with the door but ends up with Kang and or Kodos. Homer plays shoots and ladders. Slinkies destroy the car. The guy from Operation is huge and rampaging. Bart and Milhouse get sunk on a battleship. Tod and Rod get killed by Kerplunk. Bart beats Mousetrap, which saves the day for some reason. Bart and Milhouse are returned to the house and everything is back to normal. Bart says in future they will just play hangman and then Bart and Milhouse are on gallows and get killed. End of section.

Did nobody in the writers room point out the striking resemblance this segment has to the one about mascots coming to life? Christ, if they'd just done a straight-up Jumanji parody, at least it would have been something they hadn't done before.

Master and Cadaver

Marge is on a rental boat when a shark climbs on and then Homer crawls out of its mouth. Homer and Marge are on a second honeymoon in uncharted waters. They come across a castaway called Roger and they rescue him. Homer is annoyed. The castaway tells the story of how he was fled his boat because his employer poisoned everybody on it using a pie he had baked. Homer tells Marge that he thinks he killed everybody. Roger then offers Homer and Marge a pie so he throw it overboard. Marge is angry but then sees the shark dead with pie around its mouth. Homer and Marge realise they need to kill Roger. Homer and Marge kill him and throw him overboard.

Homer and Marge then come across Roger's boat and find that Roger was telling the truth. Roger turns up as he didn't die and he confirms that the shark died from the fuel leaking out the back of the boat. Shot of loads of dead fish and then a huge octopus in a big oil trail at the back of the boat (I mention this because it actually made me laugh for one brief moment of this episode). Homer kills Roger so he doesn't tell anybody that they tried to kill him. Then it turns out that all the people on the boat had the antidote but Homer kills them all so nobody would ever tell. Marge then eats the pie and dies because she cannot live with the guilt. We zoom out the boat to find it is Maggie in the bath and Homer and Marge are pondering what she is thinking about and then Maggie looks like Malcolm McDowell from A Clockwork Orange and pulls out the Alex hat.

Lisa falls in love with a vampire. Otto nearly drives into Lisa but the vampire blocks the bus using his superpowers. Then he does the same with Burns and Krusty who also happen to be driving into Lisa. Lisa and Vampire go to dark forest. Milhouse is angry and he becomes a poodle. Lisa has invited the vampire to dinner. The vampire is 400 years old and is going out with an 8-year-old. The family eat Flanders. The vampire's dad plays Jazz. Vampire and Lisa leave because vampire is embarrassed of his Dracula dad. Homer and vampire dad go to find them. Lisa and vampire climb a tower. Lisa realises she doesn't want to be 8 forever but the vampire had bloodlust so still tries to bite her. Homer protects her so the vampire and vampire dad bite him and then die of cholesterol. Homer becomes a vampire but he is a fat bat, so he falls and dies when he tries to fly. Milhouse as a poodle picks up his corpse. Credits roll.

Why do they change the name and ruin it? 'Chutes and Ladders' and 'Scope'. It's the 'Snakes and Ladders' and 'The s*****c Society'.

It would have actually been a little funnier if it was Snakes and Ladders too. In the episode he just falls down slides every time he climbs a ladder.

This looks nice, with some good design and the game elements are well-realised. It's a shame they didn't write any plot or jokes.
