Bob Odenkirk autobiography and UK tour

Don't take the piss please guys... alright then:

Hot on the heels of Mr Mortimer, the other heart-healthy food-eating comedic-legal half of a double act named Bob is bringing out a book on his similarly "inexplicable" career, the aptly-titled Comedy Comedy Comedy Drama:

QuoteIn this brilliantly entertaining and heartfelt memoir, beloved star and comic maverick Bob Odenkirk writes honestly about the highs and lows of showbiz: his work on infamous cult comedy Mr. Show, as a performer and writer on legendary series such as The Larry Sanders Show and Saturday Night Live, becoming everyone's favourite lawyer in global hit TV series' Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and what it's like to reinvent himself as an action film ass-kicker at fifty in Nobody.

Bob Odenkirk's career is inexplicable. And yet he will try like hell to explicate it for you...

Featuring humorous tangents, never-before-seen photos, wild characters, and Bob's trademark unflinching drive and humour, Comedy Comedy Comedy Drama is a classic showbiz tale told by a determined idiot.

Out on the 1st of March. There will be an audiobook version narrated by the author, and Waterstones are taking pre-orders for signed copies of the hardback:

https://www.waterstones.com/book/comedy-comedy-comedy-drama/bob-odenkirk//9781399705028

There's also a chance you may be able to get one signed in person as he's touring the US and UK, with at least one virtual event:

https://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2021/11/18/49661/bob_odenkirk_to_tour_the_uk

https://bobodenkirk.com/?p=286

UK tour starts on the 17th in Manchester, with a second show on the 18th in London, and more shows in more UK cities after that to be announced. Not many details yet but it looks like he's keen to do the shows in association with independent bookshops, and they will be an "In conversation with..." type of deal with various special guests and possibly a signing afterwards.

Hope he visits Mr Mortimer for a spot of fishing to help him get back into the world.

(Thanks to Timothy for the heads-up in the BCS thread)

Bob Odenkirk meeting Bob Mortimer would make my head explode in happiness.

Fambo Number Mive

I had no idea Bob had a book out, have added it to my list.

Famous Mortimer

I would hope they'd be fans of each others' work.

Blue Jam

Oh my god, imagine if Bob Mortimer is one of the "In conversation with..." names, I would actually explode with joy. Odenkirk is a proper British comedy geek so I can imagine him lining up some interesting peeps to chat with, people who are fans of his work too. Maybe Steve Coogan for the Manchester date? I know he's a big Partridge fan. I hadn't even thought about this, could be a lot of fun whichever date you go to!

Ron Superior

I know Better Call Saul is Bob's favourite show, and he loves going to America, but I've never heard either of them mention each other's comedy. But I do for some reason get excited about them being into each other's stuff.

Milo

Got confused thinking Mr Mortimer was Famous Mortimer there.

bgmnts

There's no way Odenkirk wasn't a fan of, or at least aware of, Vic and Bob so a collaboration would be a lovely thing.

Don't forget, he's also a big Bill Oddie fan!

(God I really hope it's not Bill Oddie)

I think my favorite work from Bob is his role as porno Gil in Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Love the bit where he says "my wife refers to it as 'the house that cum built'" and then brushes it aside saying he didn't actually make that much money doing porn

buttgammon

Porno Gil is pitch perfect in a way that few people could pull off (Gil would have something to say about that innuendo).

Although Better Call Saul is literally my favourite TV programme ever made, the best Odenkirk character will always be the hated milk machine.

The Mollusk

Yeah the crescendo to that sketch is perfection. The whole episode is superb, and you really don't think it can get any better after Cross and Jack Black's performances but Bob completely steals the show. His singing is unreal.

He's brilliant in Larry Sanders too. A real Lionel Hutz vibe to him.

Just watching this again. Is the 'do it, do it, do it' song an original? I've been singing that for years in sordid temptation scenarios and must've completely forgot Mr Show was the source.

buttgammon

Bits of that sketch get stuck in my head way too often. Hardly a day goes by that I don't start singing "don't stick your dick in these holes" to myself.

Blue Jam

"Where do I go NOOOOOOW?" pops into my head whenever I'm a bit lost playing a video game. I can't watch that episode too often as The Hated Milk Machine just renders me helpless with laughter.

My favourite thing about Porno Gil is just after he opens the door to Larry and Cheryl, and is simply the way Gil keeps stealing furtive little glances down at Cheryl's body, with a barely suppressed leer. Just a few tiny eye movements but I always notice and laugh at each one. It's so hilariously shuddersome. He does some great eye-acting in BCS but he clearly had the chops even then:

For me it's "Goodnight! Goodnight moo-cows! Goodnight... holes."

mr. logic

That's a collection of small bottles. I like them. They're not as big as normal.

The other one is "what about the moo-cow and what about the hay? What would the farmer say?" I sing this to my rabbit every time I change his hay.

#20
London venue confirmed as Ally Pally, tickets on sale tomorrow at 10am, or now if you sign up to some priority booking thing:

https://www.fane.co.uk/bob-odenkirk

I hope they've left the snooker table there:

SweetPomPom

The 10000 capacity Ally Pally? Thinking big there, Bob..
Gotta pay for priority.

Blue Jam

Heh, I'm guessing he won't be in the Great Hall. The bit used for the Masters snooker has a capacity of 2,000 for that particular event's layout, and there are smaller rooms there.

EDIT: He'll be in the Ally Pally Theatre, capacity about 900:

MigraineBoy

Richard Herring is trying to get him for RHLSTP that week too.

SweetPomPom

He's announced something but not updated the old Badger page that I can still see - only has the Jan/Feb names..

The little Ally Pally room makes more sense. If only it wasn't actually in Ally Pally.

Ron Superior

Quote from: Vroomo on January 26, 2022, 12:34:00 PMRichard Herring is trying to get him for RHLSTP that week too.

Oh god. I'm already embarrassed about the very idea of this. All of the American guests I've really liked he's had on, he's been crap every time. David Cross, Maria Bamford, Michael Ian Black. It really shows up how limited his skills are, and without the good will of a Miles Jupp or a Richard Osman or whoever - who know Richard and are more prepared to run with his deliberately shit questions or leaving silences or whatever - and it's just a bit awkward and stilted.

I hope he does Adam Buxton or Ed Gamble and Matthew Crosby or Cuddle Club instead. Bob's so funny, man. Leave him alone Richard!

Blue Jam

Oh come on, I bet you're dying to know if the great Bob Odenkirk would rather have a talc-dispensing tit or a finger that can travel through time.

I would like to hear him have a ramble chat with Adam Buxton. I'm sure he'd do it as well, all Dr Buckles would have to do is say "Hi Bob, want to come and hang out with my cute dog?"

SteveDave

Apropos of Bob, we watched "Toes" from "Tim and Eric's Bedtime Stories" last night and it was the best use of 11 minutes I've seen on TV in ages.

"Guess what? You're my son now, let's go sailing"

The Mollusk

Just got my tickets for Ally Pally! Third row centre, kickass seats. If anyone else is going and fancies a pint beforehand, I'm game!

Friggin website said SOLD OUT the first couple times I refreshed, I bricked it. Was just a blip though. Seems like there's still about 40% of tickets still available!
