Okay so I revisited the Trip with Coogan and Brydon recently and other than it being an exceptional programme, it's an absolute tour de force of impressions, and I got to thinking what are the best impressions in comedy, both in terms of accuracy and entertainment?

I'll start with Coogan's Neil Kinnock and Brydon's Al Pacino and of course any time they do Bond or Caine.

Of course, Peter Serafinowicz Kevin Spacey and Alan Alda are absolutely pitch perfect and eerily good.

Chris Barrie's Kenneth Williams is pretty great.

Also its VERY dodgy but Enfield's Nelson Mandela just hits the spot.

Any other favourites?

Serafinowicz's Wogan - freakishly good, especially on that Blankety Blank sketch

Those fuckers at the Yorke Arms at Ramsgill, Niderdale, Yorkshire went and fucking shut in 2020, that was the last place in that series I didn't manage to eat at, I ate at all the others loads though so swings and roundabouts.

Talking of Serafinowicz (and Popper), this is fantastic on the impression front

Oof gutting!

And yeah I love that bit, Serafinowicz may be the most talented comedic impersonator out there.

non capisco

I ber-luddy love Serafinowicz's Ringo Starr as well.

"John was trying, George was trying but we were all too nervous. But Paul being Paul, showing off, well he just...pooed his brains out!"

If we're talking industry standard, then the actor Kevin Eldon's George Martin springs readily to mind.

So many amazing ones from SCTV. Where to even begin

Dustin Gee could pull a pretty darn incredible Kirk Douglas face.

And Robert Mitchum

Ah, duh, yeah it's Mitchum I meant but he turned it into Douglas as an extra twist to the party trick!

Bill Hader's Vincent Price is not bad but I really like how he's captured here
Edit just clocked that is James Adomian, as mentioned above.

That Serafinowicz clip wouldn't be out of place on Brass Eye!

Fuck me, Chris Barrie's Williams is fantabulous! He even looks like him.

He's great, but for me, Will Sasso is better.

Just the way he drifts off into complete nonsense, similar to James Austin Johnson as Trump. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk-ZBYyjsko

I was surprised to find out Aaron from The Walking Dead is rather good at mimicry.

Michael Caine is always good - Paul Whitehouse, Coogan, Brydon, Phil Cornwell, but I think Serafinowicz's is the best

This is incredible.

Twilkes

Peter Sellers did a good few on the Goon show, including all of Spike Milligan's voices when he was ill, most of the audience didn't even notice.

Morgana's Cheryl Cole is silky smooth, from about 35 seconds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjEwZaUxVZc

Titus Welliver does the best Christopher Walken I've ever seen.

David Benson's one man show embodiment of Kenneth Williams doesn't quite hit the heights of Barrie's, but to keep it up for an hour live on stage is incredible.

Would have loved to have seen it live.

Autopsy Turvey

Tony Hancock's Robert Newton, Charles Laughton and George Arliss (one for the teenagers)

Bob Mortimer's Lovejoy

Basil Fawlty's Hitler

Fuck's sake, his Chris Rock is uncanny - the rest are great, but bloody hell!

Shame he couldn't use his mimicry skills to pull off an Irish accent, because whatever the hell he was attempting in Sons of Anarchy might not have been the worst that programme had to offer (because there were some belters) but it wasn't even passable.
