Just heard about then saw this pretty incredible footage of classic American policing. Shooting a guy dead who was in a wheelchair for potential shoplifting- No murder charge, but he did get fired.

If the copper had his time again could he just put a stinger down or shoot out the tyres?

Tucson attorney Mike Storie, who is representing Remington, said in a statement that his client "had no non-lethal options."

"He did have a taser, but in his mind, he couldn't use it because he didn't feel he had the proper spread to deploy it, with the wheelchair between him and Richards," Storie said.

It's a real shame the cop wasn't fast enough to get ahead of the speeding wheelchair. He had no option but to shoot him repeatedly before the dangerous criminal was out of sight.

Or just pushed it over. A little heavy handed but the victim did have a knife.

Not worth another thread really (and how grim is that) but it looks like the parents in the Michigan school shooting are being prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter.

They bought their son a firearm, and dismissed reports (including a teacher worried that he was trying to buy ammo on a school computer), and lots of violent imagery and notes like "the thoughts won't stop". It is so egregious, even Americans are thinking "oh bit far that, mate".

Maybe they'll finally get federal safe storage laws like 85%+ of the population want.

Rumour is the parents were trying to flee to Canada (apprehended hiding out in a warehouse basement less than a mile from the border) but Canada requires visitors to be fully vaccinated (no prizes for guessing their vax status) so they were figuring out next steps when the coppers arrived.
