Where to start.

I'm glad Deb Grant has some sort of permanent show but I was hoping she was going to supplant the barnacle that is Chris Hawkins.  Crematorium Lamacq may indeed have some special dirt but Hawkins has just enough too.  I get up at 5.30 these days and the prospect of listening to that unfathomable meff puts me off the station for the remainder of the day.

The Riley and Coe arrangement sounds forced and uneasy.  I like them both so will give it a go.  Well done on retaining the now-rather-good weekend line up however would somebody please pull the plug on Guy Garvey's bubble bath.  Ejector seat also required for Stuart Maconie.

Pink Gregory

Would like to listen as much as I used to (Riley used to be appointment listening when me and Ms Gregory got together, showed us Kiran Leonard and Ezra Furman) but honestly the news bulletins are enough to put me off the station entirely.  Silly really.

tinner

Surely Lamacq will have to revamp his show

I know the CaB hive mind tells us to not like Maconie, but I do. I like Maconie and Radcliffe on a Saturday followed by Huey whatsit.
They all tell me interesting (and usually accurate) bits of info about the tracks. They gush a bit but I would too if I was choosing and playing songs I liked.

I don't know anything about him other than the woefully titled Freak Zone (I've glimpsed over a fair bit of slagging on here but never been arsed enough to indulge it) but on the handful of times I've caught a listen to the show he plays good music and I've never found anything disagreeable with his chat either.

Quadrospazzed

There really needs to be a Knight of the Long Knives on that whole station, is there a single DJ under 40?

Radmac are the only thing I listen to on six music - I record it on my TV box and then fast forward though the music to get to the top-quality chat - I've got hundreds of hours of it squirrelled away in my archives, ready for what I like to call my "Mental Pension", including such gems as :

Spoiler alert
Knickers Bobby Gubby
Frimpong and Bizzle
Biff Byford Urinal
Prosthetic Testicle
The Rock Trouser Museum
Sir Montague Jevons
Jimmy Savile Auction
HP Lovecraft Eel Pie
Some Arsewipe Nicked My Bike

Yet another 'send in your suggestions' feature perhaps?  Records that mention items of furniture, songs with the word 'tractor'in the title, what record reminds you of school dinners... for God's sake at least come up with your own playlist man.

I can't believe people are getting het up about the radio.

I saw some very mildly-racist takes on Twitter yesterday including that "Father Ted" meme with the old man looking over a wall saying "I heard you're 1Extra now 6Music?" and mentions of "untz-untz musak"

Marc Riley's not played anything I've released since 2010 because, on a live session I did I argued that "Squeeze" was the best Velvet Underground album. So fuck him.

The Mollusk

Riley played "Definitive Gaze" by Magazine once and I messaged in to comment how much it sounded like something Jeff Wayne might have written for War of the Worlds. He read it out and replied "er yeah okay I guess so?" in a bemused and humouring way which made me wonder why he even bothered to read it in the first place so yeah I agree burn the entire place to the ground.

AllisonSays

If I can sneak in a little non6 chat, I feel like both the presenters on Late Junction - Verity Sharpe and Jennifer Lucy Allen - always find a good middle ground between track-chat-track and gushing hyperbole. About thirty per cent of what they play makes me feel sad, ill or frightened, but I like the rest of it!

dontpaintyourteeth

Jennifer Lucy Allen wrote a surprisingly engaging book about foghorns. And she used to follow me on instagram when I was on there, for some reason. So she's alright with me.

I mean obviously if this cuts down the amount of times Riley can shoehorn in BC Camplight or Warm fucking duscher then it's a good thing. Coe's great though, just the right amount of laconic patter after a day of 'personality' DJs.

Haven't heard Riley's reaction but Coe didn't sound too pleased or enthusiastic last night, urging listeners to make their feelings known, saying that dream jobs don't last forever and that he and his new co-host would 'try to make it work'.

daf

I wonder how these team-ups work - do they now get half their previous wages, or are they on the same fee - so the show now costs twice as much as it did before?

Is she still doing that ridiculous Cadbury's caramel bunny whisper thing. Just talk normal, you pretentious wazzock!

Riley was pretty much playing it like it was going to be business as usual, but gave the impression he's trying to make the best out of a bad situation. There was also some incredibly awkwards "bantz" between him and Coe later on, which if sets the tone for the show going forward does not bode well at all - Coe was clearly not into the idea, and who can blame him.

It always seems a shame that considering they're both on the same station that they can't just put Radcliffe and Riley together again, but then again their professional relationship seemed to end very decisively in 2004 and they've not worked together since in all that time as far as I know - not even sure if they're still friends. And plus Radcliffe and Maconie are pretty shackled together indefinitely at this point.

I enjoyed the foghorn book very much!

Did it give you the ho..., No I'm better than that.

Minami Minegishi

Who was that woman who used to DJ on 6music in the afternoon who appeared to know NOTHING about the music she was playing? She did a quiz each day with a final on Thursday for the winners. I phoned in with my specialist subject 'MBV' and I won and got through to the final but I lost that because my landfill indie knowledge was shite.

2004-5?

Jane Gazzo?

QuoteShe joined BBC Radio 6 Music in 2002, and presented Jane Gazzo's Dream Ticket from June 2004 to September 2005, as well as other BBC Radio 6 Music shows and specials. In a May 2005 article in The Independent (UK), Jane Gazzo's Dream Ticket radio show was mentioned in a characterisation of BBC Radio 6 Music as "The best thing is Dream Ticket, where you imagine you're at some of the greatest gigs ever". In December 2005, she returned to BBC Radio 6 Music, presenting various music shows.

Minami Minegishi

Found the email confirming my attendance on their quiz! Bloody hell.

It was Vic McGlynn.

Before I started the quiz she spoke to me for about 2mins off-air on the subject of restless leg syndrome because she said it would 'calm me down'.

That would be Vic McGlynn - I was on same quiz with Primal Scream as my specialist subject - got through to the final but was away at a gig by said band at the Eden Project so was without a list of that week's music news to cheat with.  Still got a nice 6 music man-bag though.  Back in the days where hardly anycunt listened to it so it was a piece of piss to get on air.

Oh yeah! Never noticed that before - especially the keyboard parts.

Yep, that's her. I only entered because the Thursday final prize was a digital radio which back then was my most sought after item. I had no PC or digital radio at home so could not listen to 6music.

I got a question about MBV's 'Soon' which was 'which position did it peak at in the charts?' which was the only question I got wrong. On Thursday all the questions were stuff like 'which indie band from Colchester are supporting Maximo Park on their UK tour?'

Errrr......The Futuremen and the Jing Jang Jong?

Maconie's a TERF so can do one as far as I'm concerned. He's made some yikes-y comments about rap/hip hop too. I seem to remember him saying that Dave shouldn't have won the Mercury Prize because his music wasn't relevant to people outside of London.

Love Riley, like Coe - but 20 hours a week of two old men playing the Wave Pictures, the Wedding Present and the Monochrome Set probably isn't necessary so what they're doing with their shows kinda makes sense. It's just a shame their new one is going to start at 10pm instead of an hour earlier.

Kankurette

I wonder if Maconie likes all those Arctic Monkeys copyists. The Lathums and whatnot.

They're probably on contracts anyway, so they're just cramming them both in one slot so they make room for someone else.

I do feel like stuff gets stale after a while and some of the new dj's they've introduced are decent.
