Is Alice an obscure American sitcom? Set in a diner and revolving around a waitress. Have just looked it up on Wikipedia and reminded the premise was her trucker husband had become dead somehow so she had relocated and was raising her young son.

I used to come in from school and watch it. Pretty sure it was on Channel 4 late afternoon maybe 83-85. Just seen the title card on Wiki and I remember that really unobtainable America of the early-mid 80s magical feel I got from these things at the time (and get rewatching things). It's all school shootings and gangster rap these days mind.

On a similar note, Nikki, starring Nikki Cox. I think also shown on Channel 4? Google only ever seems to throw up articles about how different the lead actress looks now, which is kind of sad.

Agreed. She was really talented and deserved way better than she got, I think.
