waiting for Mark Steel, I think he's the only interesting guest after Blessed.

You could just watch the video version of the Andrew Collings one and call it a day.

So Herring tweeted about 'the funny and talented crew from My Dad Wrote A Porno podcast' being on the latest episode and I replied asking why that crew aren't allowed onto the recordings and the inferior lot are?

Now I'm blocked by Herring.

LOLs

Utter Shit

I've never understood this idea that getting blocked by someone is a badge of pride. You were a knob, he blocked you. It's not an interesting or impressive claim.

Weirdly that reminded me of Herring's attitude after the Stephen Merchant RHLSTP. "tee hee got a frosty reception from Merchant after saying Extras series 2 was a bit shit!!" which would be fine if he didn't seem so prickly about criticism of his own work. Also hearing the man behind Time Gentlemen Please having a go at someone else's subpar sitcom doesn't sit right with me.

Not really claiming it as a badge of honour, I just find it ironic that he blocked me for effectively making a sarcastic comment about their work behind their back where as making sarcastic comments about someone else's work behind their back is exactly what the Daddy Porno podcast is.

A touch sensitive Mr Herring?

I too can't really get behind MDWAP. A few mates listen to it and quote it at work, so I've tried to bare through a few episodes, because I'm emotionally needy and want to join in, but it's no use.

There are a few good moments. Some of the writing is genuinely, hilariously bad, but overall the show doesn't work for me, because I feel I'm being expected to continually find funny one aspect of something, over and over again. When I become too conscious of that, I just find the whole thing awkward. Also, if you're going to be so critical and shitty about a piece of work, you need to be very good at being critical and shitty about it, which they're not. Often you can hear that they're all just pulling goofy faces and saying, "Whhhhaaaaatttt??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" ... Good thing we all know how to respond to the content, otherwise I might mistake that level of "comedy" as: lazy as fuck.

Cuellar

Yeah, I quite enjoy MDWAP, but the humour comes entirely from the way the books are written and the bizarre choices of language he makes, not from the three braying sub-Gervaises commenting on it.

Mango Chimes

I've listened to half of this RHLSTP now and it is a big of a slog. Just gone through Richard's trad "aren't podcasts the new vanguard" chat, in which no one points out that, arguably, a little of the success of MDWAP may, possibly, be attributed to... one of them already being an established TV and radio presenter with a regular weekly audience of hundreds of thousands if not millions of people.

Utter Shit

Maybe a tiny bit but would there really be much crossover appeal there? My Dad Wrote A Porno is such a weird, non-mainstream creation that I can't imagine it was ever intended to be anything more than a fun little niche thing they were doing that happened to get big, I can't imagine it would have been getting much plugging on her radio show for example? I suppose Levine's contacts in the industry might have allowed her to get it heard by the right people to ensure it reached a wider audience.

Incidentally, there is an advert for the podcast that now plays on what feels like every single other podcast I listen to. Consequently, I am thoroughly sick of that Jamie bloke's voice.

Mango Chimes

Radio 1 DJ starting a fun niche podcast versus just-some-person starting a fun niche podcast? Yeah, I reckon it helped. A very quick search on Twitter, for example, has Elle magazine in 2015 introducing Alice Levine's new podcast. A bunch of non-celebs wouldn't get the kickstart into the charts this one had, so it's another new media success built on the back of old media.

Twit 2

Surprised no one's mentioned the Steel one. I thought it was good.

DrGreggles

Does Herring do an HILARIOUS "You look like Andrew Collings!" gag?

Within the first two minutes, yep.

Bad Ambassador

It's worth sticking with for Steel's long story about the search for his birth parents, which goes in several unexpected directions.

Twit 2

Worth sticking for? I really like Steel so thought this was one of the good ones all the way through.

Bad Ambassador

I meant, sticking through the HA HA COLLINGS bullshit of the first five minutes.

Anyone know why the Michael Eavis one isn't going to be released?

It's my observation that there are no boundaries in comedy apart from comedians and their acts.

Rape's a fine subject for a larf - never say Nina Conti's fucking shit though.

Is she? I like Nina Conti, I think. Not seen in years though

Off topic, but Andrew Collin(g)s is the same Andy Collins who presented Family Fortunes for a disastrous one series back in the early 00s, right?

Which is why I wish he'd support actual popular Internet media, like Jim Sterling (who completely bums off him and would do it for free as well as, seriously, sucking him off for nothing too).

He's done numerous podcasts that have been relatively successful. He did one with Ray Peacock a while ago, too.

Anyway, I like Jim and hope to see him on RHLSTP someday!

According to Herring's blog in late May "It will be released in about a month".

According to that same blog a couple of days ago, "Sadly the one from Wells with Michael Eavis will not be going up online, so possible but not planned other specials aside this [the Fostekew/Burn one] is the last one til October."

Something must have happened.

Sin Agog

Or more likely nout much happened.  Eavis is just a smiley lefty farmer dude.  He's not really got the personality to carry an hour+ podcast.

CaledonianGonzo

He does Q&As and press stuff all the time and usually comes across pretty well.  He's not Peter Ustinov, but he's no shrinking violet either.

Sin Agog

But they're not usually specifically comedy-oriented.

Alternative theory, maybe he really did see a Bigfoot and the CIA insisted that Herring take the pod down?
