Hmm, this does sound like my sort of vibe.

I would love for something like this to be the last thing I posted, glaring on the screen in front of me as the emergency responders turn up to chisel my flesh off the seat with which it has become inextricably fused.

No, I buy that actually

bombed twitter off, threads became nu-twitter in all the worst ways, bombed that off, still on instag as a kind of dual threat of I AM STILL ALIVE and THIS CAN BE TO PORN WHAT VAPING IS TO CIGS, FB is good for sharing gags with about 15-20 old friends who don't do forums or whatsapp. that's it.

mainly for following bands/record labels/coffee shops that I like, actual people on Facebook, fuhgeddabadit, you won't have any fun conversations with people you sort of know outside of a group.  Have a nice time in an offshoot of the fan community of the All Killa No Filla podcast in which I have got to know some people's pets.  Use messenger more than Whatsapp but that's kind of grandfathered in

Instagram is fairly good for social stuff, especially with stories where a post can be up for a bit and then gone forever, the ephemerality of it is pleasing, absolutely everything else there is advertising and influencing.

Enjoyed twitter for a bit but it was clearly very bad for me and then I couldn't read it without an account any more anyway so I sloped off

There was a very long article on the Guardian recently about how Instagram is responsible for all coffee shops looking exactly the same. Which does sum up some of the bad stuff.

Even Facebook is more useful than the actual telephone which is 95% scam callers.

Dr Trouser

never been on facebook or myspace or instagram. Did have a twitter account for a personal photoshop/art project but haven't used it for a while as AI art generators rendered the whole thing fucking pointless.

Am on linkedin as I need it to see what the rest of my industry are up to (I never post on it) but I'd say these days over 50% of the posts are twats being business coaches with pictures of cofffee and/or dogs and trite phrases about some bollocks or other.

so no, no social media for me thanks.

LurkMcGee

Yes unfortunately.

Mainly use Insta, but go on FB for groups I'm in from time to time and I got a Twitter I don't post on but might see what some bands or other heads are up to.

Hate the doomscroll, so try to limit my time on them. I hate how more people use the messaging side on Insta when I'm trying to not use it at all.

Sacked Facebook off a few years ago after joining up in 2006, and found closing my account immensely relieving to an unexpectedly high degree. It wasn't even anything in particular that made me bin it, just a gnawing awareness that it was always people checking in at pubs and restaurants or reposting memes.

Conversely I use Instagram a lot. Too much. I follow a lot of artists and photographers, so it's always nice imagery, but deep down I know it's such a waste of time, and such is the volume of posts I don't really appreciate or even remember most pics I see.

If I'm idle on the couch, I find myself on it without even really wanting to be and feel a pathetic dopamine hit when I "catch up" on my whole feed.

Ask not for whom the doom scrolls, it scrolls for me.

I sacked pretty much everything off as time went on. My Facebook account, like many others, was essentially abandoned years ago, as was my Twitter before I finally just up and deleted it early on during Elon Musk's takeover. There are probably still old Myspace and Ello accounts in my name floating around, though I never used them much to begin with.

It's really just Instagram left now, where I have two accounts: one where I follow endless numbers of vintage clothing dealers and collectors and share my own collection. I really like this one and check my feed several times a day because it's filled with nothing but things that give me visual pleasure.

My other, older one is where I used to post my artwork and is followed by a mix of family, friends and old work colleagues I used to have on Facebook, as well as a few hundred strangers I was able to attract back when I still made things. I don't check in on that one often at all.

Linkedin! I've got a CV on it.  That's about it

A colleague of mine still powers through on Facebook like it's 2010, complete with sub-HIGNFY takes on current world events. Yes, I occasionally post on a forum in 2024, but he doesn't know that so I reserve the right to judge.

I can see how Facebook is still popular with certain people. If most of their friends (and family, if they actually like that) are on it, it's a very convenient way of keeping in touch, showing off their babies or mental conspiracy theory memes, with more features than any competing social network site.

I would probably still be on there if their algorithm showed me the feeds and posts of the people I want to interact with, rather than everyone I was once in group about Maidstone with.

I predict it will outlive tik-tok and Instagram.

Someone I went to school with is very active on Facebook. A few months ago he created a separate account to post his hot takes on current affairs (Israel probably shouldn't be killing babies). And he's just announced he's quitting his job to study for a masters in international relations. So you see people, if you like posting shit about the state of the world on Facebook, you too can be a penniless student!
