See, I love backgammon and want to play with a friend who lives somewhere else. We both have Android devices at hand..

I hope you see where I'm going with this - and if you don't - do you even like the game of Backgammon?

Mental that it's 5000 years old and it's still outside of my grasp slightly.

Commiserating, as I don't know how the fuck backgammon works either.

Looks like there's people here, haven't played it though. https://www.playok.com/en/backgammon/

It does seem there's not many choices for two people to play each other.

Is FIBS still a thing? A fake edit suggests it is, but incredibly there is no Android client. Other than that, I got nothing. It does lead me to ask if there would be any interest here in a CaB/FiBS crossover?

What is your go-to Android bg version? I've been using BGNJ for years, but I genuinely find that the dice rolling has got dodgier in recent years: those 1:36 chances to get two checkers off the bar come up way more often for the AI player than seems reasonable.

I find it staggering that the doubling cube is a relatively recent innovation in a game that is millennia old, and yet no-one knows who invented it, despite it being one of the aspects that make backgammon such a brilliant game.

Any devs here fancy creating a words with friends style game but called Backgammon with Friends!? No ads or gift boxes, just a great version of backgammon against friends on other devices. Cheers for that.

The AI Factory app on Android is ok. it does get some lucky rolls and doubles on the hardest setting though!

Mate of mine reckons he once got his backgammon set confiscated at an airport in the middle east because they thought it contained pork products.

- This is functional for remote simultaneous play. Bit rudimentary and clunky. No doubling dice and it says WAITING PLAYER across the board when it's not your turn.

- Not sure if it's real time or asynchronous. The app looks like a mobile version of this site: http://www.dailygammon.com/ which features a really thorough implementation of backgammon, but also what appears to be an almost aggressive rejection of any web design since 1997.

Exactly the thing Boardgamearena was developed for, I'm guessing

Saw it on BGA, but the site doesn't fit on mobile. Never realised they had an app, which is an excellent discovery.
