Yeah, it was re-uploaded last week looking at the Butterfield twitter.

Also looking at his twitter, there is going to be a Butterfield book. Hard to tell given the understandable shambolic nature of Butterfield, but not sure if it's going to be in actual shops or just available at the tour (and presumably merch site online). Sure it was mentioned in an interview with Peter not so long back too

Answering my own question from last week here in a new interview with Brian in that it looks like is just available on tour for now - but that might change.

The tour is also being recorded for release too.

Says the book is already available at the shows, does anyone have it?

Nice little new interview with Serafinowicz here about all things Brian.

The Dublin gig has now moved venues. So my hotel isn't next to the venue and my front row seats have now changed to 'unreserved seating.'

I like the dedication to the character, but this is a bit much.

Tangent but when I went to see Partridge live, being a squirming, needy little fanboy I just had to buy some kind of merch to mark the occasion. And I did (keychain, mug). But it stung because christ alive, the merch was absolute - ABSOLUTE - dogshit. Just a map of the UK with the name of the show - not even a photo of Alan - fuck, it was like an insult. It almost made me hate Steve, and I LOVE Steve.

What I thought at the time (that you just reminded me of with your joke about the venue change being a Butterfield 'bit') was: Why the fuck not work the shitness of the merch into the show? With a simple little gag about Alan making Lynne knock up the design on her laptop, or clip together all 20,000 keychains in his garage or something, the whole pile of shite would have become 'diegetic' (to slightly misuse the word) to Alan's world, and the very shitness of the merch would have become part of the joke.

But no. It was just fucking godawful cash grab ripoff bullshit and I was fucking robbed, even though technically it was me robbing myself because I'm an idiot

Vicar Street has 1000 whereas Liberty Hall has 400. I was happy he appeared to be popular enough for the bigger venue but if not, downsizing is the right choice. The League of Gentlemen played the O2 a few years ago and having 4000 empty seats was a mood killer.

George White

Liberty Hall also feels more Butterfield-esque. It feels shabbier. And it's nearer the Dart, and also easier for transport back to Bray.

Thinking of seriously going to the Butterfield gig dressed as you know who...

Well, if you think it would be more appropriate.

I hope we get some more Butterfield TV content on the back of this.

It's very Butterfield-esque that the Dublin gig has moved from Vicar St to Liberty Hall Theatre and yet I've had no notification email, and he's still up on the Vicar St website and not the Liberty Hall one.  Maybe he'll just turn up at my house.

Sorry to disappoint but I got an email about the new venue a few days ago and the physical tickets arrived today. Not sure why the old tickets wouldn't have done the job but there you go.

That's grand, I quite like the Liberty Hall Theatre, it's neat!

Missing out on this tonight in Liverpool due to COVID.

The Mollusk

Like an absolute tit I've double booked the June 14th gig at the Apollo with my mate's stag weekend, so trying to shift two tickets for it if anyone's keen? Seats are very good, and I'll waive the horrible wank booking fees I had to pay because I'm nice like that. You'll be doing me a huge favour if you can take them!

PlanktonSideburns

Dunno what's your mate like, will there be paintballing

Even though virtually everything Butterfield since the original show has been terrible, he has lost the character's voice, lost a grasp of the balance required to make it funny and has no material.

Don't know about *terrible*, but I do wonder if he really works outside of the energy of the Peter Serafinowicz show.  Also, as much as I love it, one does wonder whether any more of it would have been as good.  It's such a burst of invention and energy that seems churlish to try and repeat.

Would have meant more Paul Putner though, never a bad thing.

neveragain

I don't find those criticisms applicable to the live show. It was broader but still great.

shoulders

Maybe I set high standards but I think it's reasonable to expect to not cringe at something you loved being reprised.

neveragain

Did you see the live show? Or are you just cringing at the very idea? Forgive me for not checking back through the thread.

If you cringed at it, I'm sorry about that. As I say, I didn't.

The Mollusk

I've seen TPSS approx twice and thought it was quite good with Butterfield being the clear highlight but nothing I've ever been batshit obsessed with. Just think it's very funny. I went to the live show expecting more very funny stuff in the same vein and that's exactly what I got. Character still has the same voice, still operates within the same parameters except expanded for a broader stage production, which was done admirably. Pretty much the whole thing was great.

PlanktonSideburns

To be fair Shoulders has founded a religion around Brian Butterfield being the second christ, so I understand why he walked out halfway through the gig shouting HES JUST MUCKING ABOUT as he went

Led Souptin

Saw this in weymouth last night and it was absolutely joyus. Some classic serafinowicz silliness, a couple of jokes had me proper doubled over.

I think it lost a tiny bit of steam due to there being a lack of people who wanted to participate. The room wasn't exactly full (still have no idea how weymouth got a visit on this tour) and the people who were there were the shy comedy nerd type. But other than that it was super fun.

The book is also fantastic - I won't say anything about it to avoid spoiling it, but there's clearly been a lot or thought put into making even just looking at the cover a really funny experience. Deffo recommend (bit pricey at 30 quid a pop though, but lovely to meet Peter still in character and sweating in through that suit)

Just top stuff all round really

George White

Is it still at Liberty Hall? It's on the Vicar St site but not Liberty Hall?

checkoutgirl

Brian website says Liberty Hall and my reissued tickets say Liberty Hall so it bloody well better be Liberty Hall.

George White

I will be handing out bonbonbonbons and non calendar dates.
