Went to last night's show in Birmingham. I enjoyed it, but maybe not so much as others above. I did get to hi-five Brian though, so it's all good.

I really enjoyed it and for some reason the "individual penis confetto" line made me laugh more than anything has in a while.

I'd completely forgotten about the real BB. Been watching a VHS taped from Living TV this morning.

Anyone got a spare for Leeds tomorrow or Sheffield on Friday?

Anyone hear BB on 6 Music yesterday with Maconie? It was good fun, the highlight being Brian's claim that

Looking forward to seeing the show in Manchester next month.

This isn't an encore, it's just a bit of the show I forgot to do.

Old Thrashbarg

Just got home from this. Some lines felt a bit obvious, and there was a bit of recycling of previous jokes (which is probably forgivable for a character who has essentially not existed for 15 years), but overall it was brilliant. Laughter from start to finish, with some very inventive bits and a surprisingly coherent through-line. The audience loved it and the participation segments were very well done.

phantom_power

It must be hard to get made up like that every night. I notice he did a video podcast the other day and his "video" was just a still image with the mouth flapping as he talked like Terence and Philip

Old Thrashbarg

The couple of fairly large fans on stage giving him a constant supply of cool air did feel very necessary. Whilst also still fitting in with the character.

Basil Soper, the man who briefly revived Dustin Gee before his death in hospital.

so depressed that I can't face the incredibly minor transport arseache it would require me to get to this on the 25th. Anyone want a ticket for face?

madhair60

Just getting back from Whitley. A very fun show. An excitable young woman hammed up her bit in the participation section and Brian dealt with it gracefully. "Oh! That was acting. It was very good." before getting her off the stage with haste.

Hope it gets recorded somewhere along the line. There were so many gags I could do with a rewatch.

madhair60

easiest way to get to EartH, please. i can't make head or tail of this.

could anyone advise how long the show is and if there's an interval? trying to work out last train etc.

Sheffield was about an hour, fifteen minute interval then another 45 mins. I'd guess it's about two hours total everywhere.

neveragain

Tonight's show started at 7:50 and ended bang on 10pm, with quite an extended interval.

madhair60

thanks. sorry for earlier i've gone completely mental. sitting around reading UK serial killer page on Wikipedia and laughing every time they go "this guy seems fine, let's release him" and he just immediately murders someone. not even funny. anyway i'll take it to another thread. x

Just realised something - there's a reference to an amusing headline, namely...

Yep, at Exeter there were two or three drama students/amateur actors who repeatedly put themselves forward. Brian dealt with them similarly but it was pretty distracting having them try too hard to be funny. I did actually boo by the third time one bloke got back on stage.

Also saw this at Whitley Bay last night. Enjoyed it but definitely wasn't as impressed as others have been.
Spoiler alert
The crowd seemed a little subdued (although I was on the front row so may have missed out on the immersion of others). He struggled to find volunteers to join him onstage (to the point that I found myself up there) which resulted in a prolonged set-up for a rather weak gag. (As previously mentioned there was a pretentious little dickhead who almost derailed the show. They were dealt with and dispatched quite quickly).
I was mainly disappointed with how much he relied on reading from his Ipad, especially for the songs and the yoga bit. (Perhaps this was just more noticeable close-up, or could be viewed as being in keeping with the character).
Overall, a good show which I felt could be better with a bit of work.

The Mollusk

Vast swathes of audience participants are unable to simply be themselves without crowbarring in what they think everyone else is going to find fucking hilarious and brilliant and unique. Mate, the comedian's job is to work with the basics they're asking you for. This isn't your "time to shine", no one gives a fuck. Shut up.

Yeah, I agree with this. There were some little things niggling away at me and you've pinpointed them. I had my hand stuck up (and am a wonderful straight-man) but was obviously too far back.

someone's "time to shine" didn't go so well, eh?

The Mollusk

Listen if you don't like having bonbonbonbons shouted at you repeatedly when you're in costume as the character that said the line then you shouldn't have written it. SIMPLES.
