Quote from: Gulftastic on November 21, 2023, 01:57:26 PMThe cut away from the Gentle Ben chat show is just amazing. Always makes me laugh.
It's just brilliant. The whole concept with the microphone on his head and the cutaway is perfect.

Quote from: chip on November 18, 2023, 10:52:28 PMI've often pondered what popular Simpsons memes come from post-'Golden Age' episodes.

I remember "Everything's coming up Milhouse" being the highlight of an otherwise unmemorable season 10 episode. Even at that it really sticks out and seems like someone came up with the line as something intentionally quotable and awkwardly shoehorned it in.

I don't think it became a meme but "sometimes I whittle the future" (season 15) felt like the funniest bit in years and probably the last joke I remember from watching new episodes.

If I ever go bowling I sing "There's a kind of hush, all over the world, tonight" to the ball.

Quote from: Claude the Racecar Driving Rockstar Super Sleuth on November 21, 2023, 02:50:15 PMSo, uh, you don't like the old time bikes, huh?

Love this. That voice was always my favourite in the show ("This little fella writes mysteries under the name J.B. McGregor").

Anyway, a similarly brilliant bit featuring the same voice:

Quote(Bart answers the door)
Man: Yeah, hi. I got a special delivery for Homer Simpson.
Bart: That's me.
Man: (Punches Bart in the face.) Don't write no more letters to Mr. Sinatra.

(doorbell rings Bart answers it)
Teenager: I got a special delivery for Homer Simpson.
Bart: Uh that's me.
Teenager: (Punches Bart in the face.) Stop stealing golf balls from the driving range!

(Doorbell rings)
Man: (Through door) Homer Simpson! I've got a uh special delivery for you.
Bart: Go away.
Man: If you do not open the door, Mr. Simpson I cannot give you your special delivery.

(Bart sees it's his animation cell he ordered.)
Man: Here's your special delivery.
Bart: Thanks...
Man: (Punches Bart in the face.) That's for keeping me waiting.

Post-season 8 you do have the Kidz Newz episode and "Potato man",  "Where the hell have you been?!" (season 9) which I'd go to bat for.

Also Lieutenant L T Smash and "Here's your Who!" (season 12)

Season 15 also had "Most people write letters to movie stars. This Simpson guy writes to movies.".

"He gets the ending first, then he works backwards."

It's the fact that he spends the entire weekend laughing about it that gets me

Speaking of Bart Sells His Soul:

the street-sweeper driving into the subway entrance because he's too busy cackling evilly to watch where he's going

"What gives? These donuts are piling up."Homer Simpson went on a diet."
"Oh my God, and I just bought a boat!".

"Remember the time he ate my goldfish and you lied to me and said I never had any goldfish? Then why did I have the bowl, Bart? Why did I have the bowl?"

Oh my god! Tramapoline! Trambopoline!

Please, don't bring home any more old crutches!

"It smells funny in there"
"No it doesn't"

"Can we see the elephant? We'll pay you money!"
"For the ninth time, no! Wait a minute. This gives me an idea..."

I feel like I should be talking about why this is so good, but I lack the words to describe perfection.

Bill:  "Here comes our friend, Bullwinkle J. Moose."
Homer: "Heh heh heh, Bullwinkle's antler sprung a leak."
Bill:  "Uh oh, looks like ol' Bullwinkle's kinda gotten a taste of his own medicine.  Ha ha."
Marty: "He certainly does, Bill."
Bill:  "Ha ha.  Wait, what did...  Did what I say make sense?"
Marty: "Well, no, not really Bill."
Bill:  "Boy, now I know how the pilgrims felt."
Marty: "What are you talking about, Bill?"

"Ladies and gentlemen, `Hooray for Everything' invites you to join them in a salute to the greatest hemisphere on earth, the Western Hemisphere!  The dancingest hemisphere of all!"

"I have laryngitis.  It hurts to talk.  So I'll just say one thing... You never do anything right."

Not a classic episode for sure, but I do remember Smash's demonstration of superliminal marketing quite fondly.

Video Game Fan 2000

"pray for Mojo" from Girly Edition and "Daddy made a lot of crazy promises" from Trash of the Titans are the last big laughs in the Simpsons. ever. and one's dark humour about a funny monkey and the other is a stupid person condescending a child. talk about low hanging.

but they are both really funny.
