Read this yesterday/today. It's 3 novellas in different time periods (60's, 80's, 40's) centred around a character largely influenced by the non-fictional Robert Aickman and his affair with Elizabeth Jane Ward, and the fictional characters George Harvey Bone, Tom Ripley and George Smiley.

He's a very scary and damaged man, albeit a bit more layered than a classic sociopath, and clearly fucked up from his time as a 'spy breaker' in the war. Was pretty good but also very bleak.

It seems self published and I could only managed to get a kindle copy (which was a fucking BALLACHE to convert to epub btw), it's currently 99p.
