It does utterly baffle me why we immedtiely accept any western report about this as more credible than any Syrian report.

Not that I'm saying we can trust the Syrian media coverage, but our coverage of any controversial event is about as trustworthy as a man selling magic beans. We have zero credibility when it comes to telling the truth about international affairs.

Well it's in the interest of the rebels for things to seem as bad as possible, isn't it? Unsurprising. News organisations should always take care with this kind of thing. The 'best' story isn't always the true one.

No-one's seriously contending the idea that the Syrian army is killing it's own people though surely? Western journalists dying would seem a bit much for a lie.

Or maybe it's not a bit much as this rather convoluted theory is to be believed:

that Alabama blog's always been on the side of the Assad regime too: http://www.moonofalabama.org/2012/02/syria-nir-rosen-and-ignoring-ideologies.html#comments
and here: http://www.moonofalabama.org/2012/02/the-west-should-help-assad-.html#comments

and their push for  a Libyan No fly zone aside, http://www.avaaz.org/en/libya_no_fly_zone_3/ Something tells me Avaaz isn't necessarily encouraging the two presumably lying journalist, they just gave them equipment and that was it, really. Plus keep in mind that both American and Syrian propaganda can both be wrong, for all we know, these two guys are pulling the wool over Avvaz's eyes and no one really has hipped them to this yet.
Also, maybe it's me, but the two pictures presented here somewhat look like different people:

You may comment on the rise of the "unverified reports/pictures" disclaimer in current media coverage, almost like a "the following report DOES contain flash photography" plague.
