On Paramount+. Not sure this is necessary really. Has anyone seen it? Any good?

The series creator wrote one episode of The Sopranos

madhair60

does it explain how the beast became sexy. is the beast not sexy to begin with?

5.6 on imdb. slightly unhinged review here:

QuoteI disagree with the negatives.

People are uneasy with the hardcore qualities of this interesting prequel? Did they actually SEE Glazer's "Sex Beast" with Ben Kingsley? The acting is NOT bad, it is fine, maybe too intense for some. What, Kingley's acting was "bad" because he was too violent? He was a psychopathic (not "sociopathic," there's a difference) monster. Here you have more monsters, including the over-the-top viciousness of this Don Logan. Unlike many PBS Brit series, that cater to the fantasies of "polite" folks, this is very consistent with the actual ferocity of Brit crime. Brits and US Brit TV fans don't want to see this. But fact is, the defunct Brit "empire" was always extremely violent in its sense of entitlement to world domination. In latter days they live with and need to deal with the bottom dregs of greed, crime, drugs, sociopathy and violence. I won't say I "enjoy" it, but I have to give credit where it's due.

Saw the trailer for this during the week and thought it looked like throwback mockney bollocks that correctly died out in the mid-2000s. Then got genuinely annoyed when the title popped up at the end and it became clear it was somehow tied in to the amazing self-deconstruction gangster film.

I suppose the plus is that I've been thinking of all the fantastic bits from the film for the past few days. You fucking leather man.

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

Sex Beast is actually a better title.

"9 years of my life, no fackin' risk??" - the series

13 schoolyards

Seen the first episode, wasn't that bad while also obviously not (yet) a patch on the movie.

Slightly interesting what bits work and what don't - there's a lot of the relationship between Ray Winstone's character (forgot the actor but he's just playing a nice guy here) and his (new) porn star bird that's all nicely done, and in this Don has a sister (played by Tasmin Greig) who's worse than he is and is pushing him to up his crime game. But the guy playing the top crime boss is nowhere near as pansexually demonic as Ian McShane was, so his stuff is a bit meh.

I'll keep watching

Does RELAX play over the whole series? I'm in if so

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

Actually, in the film I never found out who the eponymous Beast was. Ray Winstone? Gandhi? Lovejoy? It seems like the title bears little relation to the story.
