Well I guess they're just turning out Saw movies forever. On the bright side they've realised that Spiral was a dead end.

Killing off Jigsaw in Saw 3 (is that right) was one of the bolder moves the franchise could have made, and the "Jigsaw's disciple" plotline worked for a bit, but it looks like they've realised they need the main guy back.

Egyptian Feast

I used to enjoy the yearly ritual of Saw sequels, but haven't bothered with any of the follow ups since they did the supposed final one and broke the cycle. I couldn't be arsed with that kind of thing now, but have occasionally fancied revisiting Saw VI, the one where a bunch of despicable health insurance cunts get hilarious comeuppances. Underrated.

The Carousel of despicable health insurance cunts is a highlight of the series. I have a problem with Jigsaw's reasons for choosing victims most of the time, but he got it pretty much right here. And in the one where that Nazi's back got peeled off, lol.

thought you said you saw the movie

i absolutely fucking love this stupid series. Hoffman escaping the reverse bear trap at the end of Saw VI is one of the most metal fucking things I've ever seen. AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH (smash to black)

El Unicornio, mang

If you saw X and liked it, I recommend seeing Pearl.

QuoteSet between the events of Saw and Saw II, a sick and desperate John Kramer travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer — only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged and ingenious traps.

soooo, we rooting for the guy now or what

the poster is delightfully horrid in a way that reminds of the system shock cover, which perverted my dreams with its grim hues

Brundle-Fly

Didn't some film geek re-edit all the SAW films into one long movie and made the timeline completely linear?

Shaky

I really only liked the first one and gave up around 5 or 6. It makes me chuckle when fans (usually American horror-bros) try to claim there's a serious or philosophical point underpining all the increasingly convoluted nastiness. These films are the modern equivalent of all those Friday the 13th, Elm Street, Halloween sequels etc - existing only to splash the claret around and give the audience exactly what they expect.

Pink Gregory

ARRRRRRRGH I'VE GONE CROSS EYED I HATE IT WHEN THIS HAPPENS!

Angst in my Pants

The poster would make a good replacement for Musk's X HQ sign, it's far more tasteful.

Oh that's me. Or rather, I think the first one has got more of an idea in its head than most slashers.

Can't disagree with that but do we really need ten of the bastards?

Jerzy Bondov

I'm annoyed this is what they call an 'interquel' when they could quite easily get around the whole 'Jigsaw died in Saw III' problem by having him simply not be dead any more. Just do a Jason Lives and have him come back from a lightning bolt, or a Dream Master and have him come back from a dog farting. Or have the government clone him or something. Or he possesses someone. ANYTHING! Just go crazy!

The best Saw films are 6 and 7. 6 because he's going after health insurance guys so when he does his big boring speech at least he's morally correct, and 7 because it's just off its nut. Disgusting films. Lovely stuff.

I'm more excited about Saw X than any big film coming out this year, absolutely love this franchise. The plot is obviously absurd but there's something so enjoyable watching them bend themselves out of shape trying to extend the storyline beyond Saw III.

It taps into that thing where you watch it thinking "how would I get out of this situation?". Also I really appreciate all the practical effects.  Nice that they're doing a film from Jigsaw's perspective; they really struck gold getting Tobin Bell. He's so compelling to watch so I'm glad we're getting a film from his perspective before he cashes out, as much as it's utterly bizarre to be rooting for a sadistic maniac who likes watching people mutilate themselves.

I sometimes go onto the Saw subreddit to see what people are saying about the films and sadly the impression it gives you is that the majority of fans of the franchise and maybe horror films in general are that they're complete morons/children. I wish I had more friends that enjoyed horror films. Looks like I'll be going to see this one my myself, masturbating at the back of the cinema.

Yes I love this aspect and that's why I like the later ones so much, they've piled so much shit on there. I guess they could put another one between II and III, and probably get some in between Jigsaw and I, but I really want to see what Cary Elwes was up to between I and VII, loads and loads of mileage there. Personally if I was doing it, I'd set a new one after Spiral and make it seem like the guy off that is the main bad guy but then BOOM IT'S ME JIM, JOHN KRAMER'S IDENTICAL TWIN BROTHER

Also I don't know if it's just me but I always refer to him as John Kramer (instead of just Kramer) to fend off any 'Jerry, I'm putting in a torture chamber!' type jokes.

His name is Jigsaw

No that's the little guy on the bike, haven't you seen the films ffs

I can't work out what's going on in that poster. Is the bloke looking upwards while two fluorescent lighting tubes fall into his eyes?  Fuck of a coincidence if so.

They're sometimes alright, these, but never great.  6 was the best because it at at least tried to get topical, as it came out when Republicans were pissing and moaning about 'Obamacare' - hence the flip from someone trying to survive to someone trying to save other people.  Other than that, they do make a good go of continuity.  You get stuff set up in one that pays off in another.  I mean, that's all out the window now as it'll be a reset, but they were good at that.

In about 26 years (yes!) of horror fandom I think it is safe to say this is the case honestly. The horror fandom just seems to want endless trash sequels-- but not genuine schlock, y'know? Like those new Halloween films have a pretty good fan rating but they're utter shit, and not even enjoyably shit. Whereas absolutely fantastic garbage like the latter-day Jason bollocks gets torn apart by fans but is absolutely classic cheese.

13 schoolyards

Sad but true. It's a confirmed fact that horror fans are the absolute worst when it comes to being any kind of useful judge as far as quality goes. They'll champion absolute shit while dismissing anything with any kind of merit 100% of the time.

H-O-W-L

"Horror Fans" nowadays are the kinds of people that put the new Insidious on while doing the washing-up anyway. Not to be a snooty bitch but the demographic has honestly changed to stuff like that, it seems -- movies with relatively-episodic jump-scare/pop-spook moments. Hope Saw can keep its edge.

GoblinAhFuckScary

do we still get porn parodies of big new filums? like that Pirates of the Caribbean one or The Da Vinci Load

good marketing opportunity for a SAW XXX where they have to dreadfully saw their own cocks off with a blunt dildo or something

BritishHobo

Saw this last night, proper daft good fun. They've clearly tried to approach it from a brand new angle, and it makes for something very mad and very compelling. Fair fucks to 'em!

Kankurette

Seinfeld/Saw crossover when?

Of course there isn't, it's just gore porn. Jigsaw is a hypocrite. Most people die in the traps, they're practically inescapable, and it doesn't magically make them better people or appreciate their lives. Plus one of his victims self-harmed and apparently that warranted putting him in a barbed wire maze. Another victim was a hooker who solicited him and apparently she deserved to die because of it. Or the woman who got sawn in half in public by the two guys she was two-timing, which is shitty but come ON. Or the woman who was burned to death to punish her husband for lying about being in a Jigsaw trap.

They've tried to be political with the health insurance and cop storylines, bless them. But it's so transparent.

The Late Satoru Iwata

Jigsaw is a twat. The kind of person who shares Facebook images with a picture of a forest with the phrase 'this is an antidepressant' and one of some pills that says 'this is a lifetime addiction' but just turned up to the max and I fucking love it.
