Flickering/blank desktop after a windows update

My laptop has completely shat the bed after a windows update. Black screen flickering after i log in. I can sometimes see the taskbar/desktop background for a second

Only thing i seem to be able to do is open task manager.  It's showing 'antimalware service executable' taking up a lot of the cpu and memory. No idea what that is since i have all that stuff switched off.

Any ideas? I can't seem to boot into safe mode either. I have a lenovo laptop, not sure if that is why
