Haven't checked the thread. I assume everyone unanimously agreed that's it was a fucking embarrassing thing to have existed, and blumf has apologized for starting the thread because it's incredibly embarrassing for him and the forum collectively that this thread even exists?

It definitely doesn't, there's nothing remotely sex positive about it, and plenty of working class women (and men) think it's shit and demeaning

You could probably make the case that the only reason it was dropped was old rubber face viewed profiting from inappropriately placed and tasteless "erotica" was less important than giving the Scum a bit more credibility to push the rest of his hate filled agenda.

the most likely reason it was dropped is that the rise of reality tv and other things in the 00s made it so the readership of tabloids now had a solid chunk of non-males readers. and sports going a little more out of their way to accomodate female fans

nowadays they're part of the same content stream as online gossip sites, etc. getting rid of page 3 girls just seemed to be part of this. the tillation aspect didnt go anywhere arguably tabloids are far worse when it comes to purient comments on celebrities bodies now than during the 90s so-and-so STUNS in her new PLUNGING dress that leaves VERY LITTLE to the imagination, its just done in language the current generation of readers finds acceptable they can read it and go "blimey werent we so bad and unreconstructed back then" while doing the same old shite

its not hard to imagine public opinion swinging against gossip and invasions of privacy, the voyeurism that goes on with it all, but acceptance of softcore continuing to increase. so we might get something like it back while future people scowl at us for our terrible habits for finding the daily mail side bar of shame acceptable

Also, topless pictures and the like just weren't as popular for getting readers during the 2010s, lad mag circulations were getting smaller and smaller so shops could get in the press as taking a stand by putting Nuts out of view, safe in the knowledge that it would barely make a dent in sales.

Jesus. Sorry to hear that.

A time and a place for any and every consenting adult activity IMO but the way page 3 was inserted into culture was grim, especially alongside the prurient moral outrages of the tabloids.

Porn is more freely accessible anyway. Why buy a magazine when you can just go on Pornhub?

im cynical enough to think the anti-lads mag campaign benefitted people who picked as a cause specifically because it was an inevitability

during the mid-90s when they were at the height of their popularity it was an extremely derided point of view, since lads mags had a sheen of 'irony' and appealed to the 'new lad'. and most of the images were about style and personality. little to no celebrities went nude.

Thank you.  I agree entirely.  Also think that whole culture that went with it was used to police and oppress men too.  Bully any man not appearing to be a proper lad.  A way to torture minorities.

I like how they balanced the tits with model's views on the days news.

It was/(is?) the Daily Star that had/has stunnnas and they were/are on page 7.

Ghastly stuff in a newspaper. Or even The Star.

They did didn't they? My Nan got the Sun (for the crossword) and I remember looking at page 3 when I was a sweaty revolting teenager, and wondering why it was doing absolutely nothing for me. Was it that I was at Nan's house? Partly. But the context is weird, even in the laddish 80s/90s. It seems like it's being presented as humour, rather than titillation. But what's the joke?

Presuming 'nude' also includes topless/ underwear shoots, that's nonsense, sorry.

i know its absolute nonsense, but it was a common defense of why lads mag werent the same as Page 3, because anti-lads mags became a cause celebre at the end of the 00s its easy to forget how derided opposition to them was in the 90s

the pictures on the cover of FHM were usually closer to fashion than glamour, it was always marketed as modern and contemporary. it took until the late 90s for the covers to really become bosoms thrust into the camera and bikini shots, and ill take a wild guess that around that time readerships average age dropped by about ten years. by the time a lot of the more infamous and sexual lads mags were founded the boom was mostly already coming to a close and the internet taking over

I think it is because in order to be legally acceptable in a newspaper anyone can buy it can't be a photograph considered as sexual stimulation. It is 'just' a sexy woman standing, without a top on, giving her opinion on world events.

in school in 98 or 99 lads showing me something in the sun or the star that was pictures of 16 or 17 years celebrating their birthdays, clubbing with captions like along the lines of its okay now, they're gagging for it. saw the same thing with alevel/gcse results of the model, she's gonna get wild at uni lads (might have been a regular feature in summer 98 or 99)

and in primary school one time had to make papier mache and some kids dad apparently deliberately put in a load of the sun for a laugh and the teacher had to go through the whole batch to fish out the page threes

shiftwork2

Shameful memory of taking an extremely rare copy of The Sun (must have been gifted, we were solid Daily Mirror proles) upstairs for a wank and it being somehow so obvious that I heard my Dad shout 'are you looking at page 3' as I ventured close to that extraordinary physiological oddness that takes a bit of courage to endure let alone enjoy.

Surely it was page 3 because 3 looks like boobs. To represent a cock and balls properly it should be on page 18, next to the weather forecast.

havent read this thread yet but i expect it is very good indeed

Better than you can possibly imagine.   And very healthy and natural.  Very normal.
