Any fan fiction writers on here?

I'm trying to write a Fawlty Towers/Sopranoes crossover on wattpad. Only got to 1,700 words and have got stuck. Haven't published it yet. First time I've ever tried writing any fan fiction

Has anyone written any fanfic? Is calling it fanfic very wanky?

willbo

I wrote a really cool one about Batman in Dune about 15 years ago.  Paul Atreidis wakes him up from hibernation and the Harkonnens had the Joker. I only wrote about 2 paragraphs and some other people added to it.

Dayraven

Just get

"He's from Barcelona"

"Yeah, and he's from Naples"

in there somewhere.

holyzombiejesus

I wrote an erotic short story about Ken Barlow and Mike Baldwin having a fight in a gym changing room. Not sure if that counts.

Mr Vegetables

I've written over 300,000 words of fanfiction now. I would quite like to write stories that aren't fanfic, so I could publish them myself for a small amount of money. But I find that much harder to do

Fambo Number Mive

Which characters are featured in your fanfic Mr Vegetables?

I'm not sure if fanfic is harder to write (because you are more constriced in character personalties and attributes) or easier (because your characters are already fleshed out).

Post here or didn't happen

Wrote a few Doctor Who stories that ended up in fanzines. One was published next to an early effort by Paul Cornell, who ended up writing a David Tennant story for television.

All I can remember is Mike walking out the shower and brazenly letting his towel drop in front of Ken, and Ken having to grudgingly admit to himself that his old adversary had an enviable heft to his pike.

Kankurette

I do, or did - I haven't written in ages, writer's block - but like fuck am I posting it here.

The vast majority are Doctor Who stories, and most of the time it's not really because of the characters— it's either because I don't know how to get the structure to work if it isn't a Doctor Who story, or it really depends on the symbolic connotations of the Daleks or something.

I enjoy writing my own characters more than other people's, really— I've just failed to find natural ways to get them into half-fantastical, half-mundane stories. It always feels forced outside of that framework, I suppose

13 schoolyards

Some friends of mine (well, one friend and his mates) have written a couple seasons of a podcast / radio show that's basically Doctor Who fanfic but with just enough changed to get away with it.

There seems to be a bit of a market for that stuff, and Who itself is vague enough (just have a wacky scientist guy with a ship that can go anywhere) that a lot of fanfic writers have been able to turn their work into something original just by changing a few details. So if you need that framework, there are still ways to tell your own stories with it

My time to shine!  About a decade ago I wrote a trilogy of Robocop fanfictions in a vague Alan Bennett style.

Robocop And The Spider

Robocop And The Washing Up

Robocop On A Train

Hmm, then maybe it is possible after all; I'll rethink it again. Thank you!

Only read the Spider one so far but that was a great read, and really funny stuff.

Thank you!  You'll be pleased to hear that there is a definite conclusion to the trilogy, so no further works will ever exist, thus making it one of the most accessible 'dystopian teen fiction trilogies' available today.

Mike did end up dying in Ken's arms, after all.

Mr Trumpet

I was going to turn my nose up at the idea of writing fan fiction, but then I remembered I was involved with a big mod for the now-ancient game Morrowind, and one of my main contributions to the project was writing loads of in-game book excerpts that players can pick up and read to learn more about the world. Which I suppose counts as fanfic?

I'd read that. Disappointed to see 0 Ken/Mike fics on AO3

I'm writing slash porn of CaB posters.

If this doesn't feature me and Madhair romping on a bed covered in cheap graphic novels that I bought from charity shops I'm going to be sorely disappointed.

I've been posting fanfic online for the last 20 years under different names and sometimes anonymously. Something that's really working for me at the moment is summarising the entire fic in paragraphs, like so:

(SMBH carefully spreads graphic novels over his bed, ruminates on scouring charity shops for months till finding the perfect ones. Looks at clock, it's almost time, nervous about whether madhair will show (more thoughts on this?))

Then I start writing out what I've put in the paragraphs. It's a good way to keep on track and prevent yourself stopping because there's a big expanse of white on the page and you've got no words to put there. It also means you have to work out the major plot beats and the ending ahead of time. They can be changed as you go along, but it's always good to have a basic outline you can refer to.

Calling it fanfic is not wanky at all. Fanfic is the preferred term in most circles.

Just change the character names. Fifty Shades of Grey famously started life as Twilight fan fiction.

The Christmas meetup should be a cabaret including fanfic recitations. And enactments.
