Maybe all this time the NI Protocol is some sort of advanced 4d chess from the Tories to collapse the DUP and let the less nutty Ulster Unionist Party back in as the main Unionist voice. The DUP ousted Foster cos she was a bit left wing for them and now they've ousted Poots seemingly cos he had a sliver of responsibility about him, and thought "hmmm... maybe we shouldn't kick up too much over being made do the thing we agreed to do and proceed with trying to get the Assembly to work."

Likely Jeffrey Donaldson next. Only other people with a notional chance are Paisley Jr. or Dodds. Donaldson is routinely called onto RTE to talk about issues in the North (especially Brexit & the protocol) and the level of unreality the man lives in is something else. I'd say "God help us", but if there was any lingering doubt that God doesn't exist, the fact that he hasn't sent a biblical flood to kill these bastards should remove it.

I just really, really hope Unionists are watching this shit closely and won't re-elect the DUP en masse next time around. This of course, is a vain hope, because many Unionist are completely deluded and will convince themselves, or be convinced, that this is somehow all Sinn Fein and / or Leo Varadkar's fault, and that if they don't vote for the DUP the IRA will end up charge.

Now Givan has to step down as first minister once a new leader takes over, which means O'Neill has to step down as deputy first minister and then the parties need to decide in seven days from Givan and O'Neill stepping down who will fill the roles. I presume O'Neill will then be appointed as deputy first minister again but it looks like if Donaldson gets in as leader (which looks likely) he will also be first minister.

I'm not sure, I suppose being leader of the DUP could be prestigious for some without the stress of being First Minister. Or he doesn't want to speak to anyone from Sinn Fein.

Early Life
Donaldson was born in Kilkeel, County Down, in Northern Ireland. He attended Kilkeel High School then Castlereagh College. He joined the Ulster Unionist Party and the Orange Order as a young man and later worked for the MP Enoch Powell.

In July 2009, The Daily Telegraph reported that Donaldson had repaid £555 claimed for pay-to-view films in overnight hotel stays. In total, Donaldson submitted claim forms, including receipts, for 68 pay-to-view movies. The newspaper claimed 'hotel sources confirmed that films he put on his expenses during 2004 and 2005 were in the highest price category offered to guests, covering the latest blockbusters and adult movies' although no evidence is offered that he did and Donaldson issued an official statement denying watching any content of an adult or pornographic nature.

A bit slow, but I just came across this story about DUP leading light Ian Paisley Jr appearing on stage with COVID fuckwit Van Morrison and chanting anti-lockdown bollocks about the evilness of the NI health minister (Robin Swann from the UUP).
