Ballad of Ballard Berkley

Marlena Shaw - Liberation Conversation (2:02)

Silver Apples - Oscillations (2:47)

That last one is an absolutely perfect pop song.

If there was ever a master of the sub-three minute song, it'd probably be Bob.

SteveDave

Sandy Posey "See Ya Round On The Rebound"

The Shirelles "Please Go Away" (under 2 minutes)

Ray Travez

Shakespeare's Sister by the Smiths, just over two minutes

Dirty Boy

Christ don't forget The Beatles
I Feel Fine 2:23
Day Tripper 2:52
Paperback Writer 2:25
Rain 3:01 (Curses!!)

Dr Trouser

Seeing as Hanoi Rocks and Husker Du were a big part of my musical history, I present these two gems

The Huskers one hasn't loaded but my guess would be Books About UFOs

perplexingprocrastinator

Idyllically relaxing pastoral (or teeth-grinding twee nightmare, YMMV) in 1:47

La la lala la-la la la la, la-la la la la laaaa

Imagine Yesterday or Eleanor Rigby being even a second longer. You can't because each is the exact length it needs to be and not an ounce of flab.

Let's assume you've seen my name pop up, so 'You Suffer' is a given and we'll press on.

Anyway, I love how this is a mid-pace song with big synthy intro and outros, a breakdown before the first chorus and a guitar solo and still gets the lot done in just over 2½ mins:

And while I'm here:

Butchers Blind

This is about as great a three minute pop song as you'll hear.

Obviously the winner. Can't beat it!

I'll see your sub 3, and raise you sub 2:

I was going to say Tangerine by Led Zep but it's over three minutes which was surprising to find out.

Good Times Bad Times, Communication Breakdown and Livin Lovin Maid are all great done in under 3 min numbers, dont need anything else.

Have to say a live Immigrant Song with a rambling solo is much better than the studio version.

Other than those they get increasingly rambly arranging in the studio and I think their only other sub-three min song recording is Royal Orleans (instrumentals aside). Night Flight is one you think might have made it but nope.
