Quote from: Chollis on May 15, 2022, 01:44:10 AMi was *this* close to having a soft spot for Spurs because half my family supports them and I want them to be happy, but you had to ruin it.

Don't ever contact me again.

Oh come on cheer up. If Spurs had won the FA Cup today (don't laugh, stranger things have happened) I certainly wouldn't be getting my knickers in a twist about what some nobody on the internet had said about my team.

Chollis

i find it baffling that so many Liverpool fans don't understand that "neutrals" want anyone-but-us to win.

City win the title? Who gives a shit, honestly. Most expensive team wins the thing, great. There's no intrigue there, no story. Blows over in a few days. Liverpool win? Massive media wank-a-thon about how great Klopp is and how great Liverpool are.

Chelsea win the FA Cup? Nobody cares.

Real Madrid win the Champions League? Do I have to know about it? No, because I live in England.

Why the fuck would anyone want Liverpool to win anything? When the only alternative is a team that means much less to YOU, and everyone else.

nah we're good BUDDY. while Klopp is in charge, I feel confident in saying we'll be shit-hot, and can compete with the state-owned clubs, we can watch the battle for 4th from afar but the second he leaves...we're back there, and it will be City and Newcastle duking it out for league titles.

Yes, that's why people don't like Liverpool. It's because they're more important than literally every other club.

Did actually misread this initially. It makes you sound a bit crazy to be fair. Dutch courage due to the cup win, right? I have to shock you here: Everyone who doesn't support Liverpool isn't insanely jealous we didn't arbitrarily pick the most consistently successful club when we were young and has held a grudge ever since as a result. As a football fan I don't like any other teams in the same division or similar big clubs in other countries. It's nothing Liverpool-specific. Although man some of the posts on here do test that.

druss

I'm confused, pretty sure everyone other than United fans would have rather Liverpool win than chelski.

Thursday

No fair, you don't get to call us Chelski anymore now that we're American instead of Russian billionaires... Yes I know it hasn't quite gone through yet, and it was still built with Russian blood money.

I kind of see what Chollis is saying. There's always been this weird importance attached to Liverpool as an institution, and as someone who started watching Football in the mid 90's it was always kind of of baffling how their legacy was talked about with all this gravitas. Man Utd have turned into that now, not won for years but talked about as they should be entitled to because they're such a big club.

In later years though I've actually warmed to them quite a bit realizing a lot of their support is relatively leftist.

I do think that's massively exaggerated though, but I'd tend to prefer them winning over Man City. Not this year though because I don't want them getting the quadruple or even a treble.

jobotic

They're not actual fans though are they?

Do Newcastle fans think the war in Iraq was legal because Tony Blair pretended to support them?

Blofelds Cat

Majority of RedSchite fans are Southern Tory wools with a try hard uber Scouwze sctick who couldn't tell you Anfield's postcode and have only latched on to Liverpool because they are glory hunting schitt sniffs

jobotic

Okay.

Not a Liverpool fan by any means, the entire Premiership can do one. However seeing they are always competing with real scum teams I usually end up hoping they'll win,  like yesterday.

mr. logic

A decade ago, Liverpool as a club and the majority of their supporters were endorsing an act of racism. That's why I don't like them.

bgmnts

Liverpool are actually a global team and so most fans are likely outside of the UK.

In fact this is the top 10 of local fanbase percentage, lowest to highest*;

Man Utd
Liverpool
Spurs
Arsenal
Chelsea
Watford
Everton
Man City
West Hame
Newcastle

* as of 2016.

holyzombiejesus

Can anyone who knows about these things get me a link for Swindon Town vs Port Vale please?

The Anfield derby match is the only game where the home fans travel to the ground by plane and the away fans walk to the stadium

I did say it's massively exaggerated, but as I say the fact that there's any anti-royal/anti-Sun/Pro Corbyn contingent in Liverpool at all, seems like an improvement on most teams. I know it's not true of the majority of fans, but it makes me envious that it exists at all, as a Chelsea fan. Wish the team I happened to pick when I was a child because of geography/family supporting them didn't have a higher than average racist tory scum element.

Again though, I think these are massively xaggerated on both sides, Football teams have such huge amounts of supporters that it's far more complicated than that. Does rankle a bit to lose another cup final to Liverpool on penalties and people act like it's Labour beating the Tories, but kind of used to that by now.

Believe it or not, some "neutrals" hate Man City/Chelsea/Real Madrid more than they hate Liverpool.

I suspect if yesterday's final was against Crystal Palace everyone bar Liverpool* fans would be rooting for Palace.

*and Brighton, for reasons I still don't understand

I'd say it points towards what massive dickheads they are tbh and should remind them exactly who they are handing over their hard earned dough to before they start flapping their traps and painting their bedsheets...

Founded by a Tory Orangeman...decimated the local area and intimidated the residents to extend their stadium...tried to furlough their staff during the pandemic despite being worth billions...spearheaded a scheme to breakaway from the Premier League and form a Euro Super league...owned by a US Trump supporting hedge fund corporation...Socialist club my fckin arse

Pretty much.  Looks like that internet cafe has let them back in.  Wont be long before he's distracted by the ball pool though.

Ah diddums...did the nasty man post some uncomfortable truths for you?

Slow motion shouldn't have been used to determine if arm was in unnatural position. Was still reacting from the shoving match.

It is so hard to keep up with where the handball rule is. I feel like the more you overcomplicate these rules, the worse they get.

My instinct is that should be a pen as the hand was away from the body but he also didn't have time to react so it is harsh. I don't think any advantage was gained from Burnley from the handball contact which rubs salt in.

Inspector Norse

Seems handball's always a dubious call now but ultimately if you're doing star jumps in your own area and the ball hits your elbow, you're fucked.

JamesTC

Loris Karius is the last keeper to save a Kane penalty, I hear.
