Matthew Goldin Presents C.K.

I noticed "SNL writer" Matthew Goldin's Twitter a few weeks ago when he advertised his new show entiled 'C.K.' - "the only comedy show where critics are required to masturbate during their sets", at The Yard Theater in Los Angeles.  His Twitter account had caught my eye recently as it appears to consist of gentle trolling with any evidence of him actually contributing to SNL being somewhat dubious at best.  Similarly, I found it rather difficult to believe that the C.K. show would make good on it's masturbatory promise.  However, he has now shared a video recording of his set.  I think it's worth saying that even though the footage is pixelated, I don't expect anyone would consider this work-safe, per se.

Spoiler alert

I haven't been able to find out a lot of info on Goldin, although he did compose this entertaining text on his time as a contributor to 30 Rock: https://matthewgoldin.substack.com/p/30-rock?s=r, plus he seems to have some connection to the glam/neo-powerpop band The Lemon Twigs.

Is anyone here familiar with his oeuvre?  Would be intrigued to learn more.

I remember his account from when some tweet of his went a bit viral maybe a year ago. I think it's an "LA TV writer" parody account, but not completely sure.

I feel like the word required should be italicised or something, otherwise it just reads odd.

I've enjoyed his stuff on Twitter in the way it deliberately riles the right people up, like the tweet about a Harry Potter tattoo being the same as a swastika. It's the same as with Ken M; the joy of self-righteous types being led into showing themselves up. It's fun to see people humourlessly attempt to slam him for SNL not being funny, or his career being in the toilet, when he's making it all up.

Can't stand the guy. No, the other one.

Coming from one of those 'right people to rile up', if we're pretending that that's a legitimate category of person.

BritishHobo

Well the right person to rile up is somebody who would try to humourlessly destroy someone online because they made a daft tweet about JK Rowling being transphobic.

If it helps, when it comes to Twitter, this would very often apply to people with opposing opinions to that as well. It's more about the terminally online types who love public shaming than it is about the opinion itself. Ken M scratches exactly the same itch and that's not political at all, it's just about any topic on earth where an anonymous user would delight in the opportunity to humiliate and ridicule another.

PaulTMA

A tweet I very much enjoyed the responses to recently.  Noticed at least two wrestlers got a bit riled by it.

Yes! I just love with the pleased-with-themselves anger of somebody who doesn't realise they're completely wasting their energies. Any attempt to make him feel shame or hurt for his Twitter bio or his alleged career history kills me everytime.

One more I want to share is his 'tribute' to Kobe Bryant, the American sports whatever who died in a helicopter crash:

I keep coming back to this.

big fan of this story, highly recommended read

Seems like a missed opportunity. I'm not sure I count occasionally halfheartedly slapping your genitals as "masturbation," and I'd demand my money back.

My wife's been half-heartedly slapping my genitals when I ask her to masturbate me for as long as I can remember.

Have you asked for your money back?

I was joking. She's actually really good at it, but no one likes a show-off.
