Indie power ballad

It's quite hard for me to describe the sort of song I'm looking for, but I'm putting together a CD, ostensibly of power ballads.  However, the 'power ballad' I like the most is 'Should Have Known Better' by Jim Diamond.

It's not really indie is it, more just not very well known... anything else like this you can recommend?

Don't know if I would say that wasn't well known, it was Number 1 in 1984 and could have been the Xmas Number 1 if it hadn't been for those cheeky scamps in Frankie and the even cheekier scamps that made up Band Aid. And no, I don't think most people would class it as Indie.

I like the "I...I...I...I...I...I...I" bit. The video's a bit cringeworthy. Anyway, if you like that you might like Jim's previous hit I Won't Let You Down:

I remember reading that Diamond was going to do a gig in a Pizza Hut a few years ago, but I digress... For me the words "Indie Power Ballad" instantly bring to mind this song:

I also thought of this, probably because I was just listening to it:

And while I was typing that I thought of this:

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Which sounds remarkably like the above video in parts

I remember buying this cd back in the day, it seems to have the some of the type of thing you're looking for on it. Or possibly not - it's difficult to tell from your description, you crazy mixed-up renegade.

I would say that was an almost perfect encapsulation of the term "Indie power ballad". I would go for Ocean Pie rather than Chasing Rainbows myself, but I suppose Rainbows has more of that "power" thing going on. And Walkaway is certainly a "Power ballad", arf!

I also thought of this:

And this kareoke standard:
