Trouble in Terrorist Town

So, I seem to have become a bit of a video game voyeur of late. I don't have a pc spec'd highly enough to play anything more advanced than Half Life 2 so have to make do with watching videos of other people with proper gaming rigs having fun with their friends playing the likes of DayZ.

One of the other games that I am really enjoying watching is an online fps multiplayer Garrys Mod game called Trouble in Terrorist Town. The premise seems relatively simple, but I will attempt to complicate it as much as possible.

You are amongst a group of terrorists. Within that group there are a small number of traitors, a majority of innocents and a couple of detectives. You are randomly assigned one of these categories when the game starts.

The traitors know who the other traitors are and have to kill all the innocents and detectives. Everyone knows who the detectives are and they have special tools to help identify the traitors. The innocents are in the majority and need to survive. Of course everyone has a gun and everyone looks suspicious.

This is a game that is all about communication and looks particularly fun when played with a group of mates. You can't just go in blasting because everyone will assume that you are a traitor and you won't last long, you need to look for suspicious activity and be in communication all the time. Of course the traitors are always lying, but that's what makes it fun. I think the most common phrase must be "I'm innocent! I'm innocent! Don't kill me!"

Has anyone played this? Is it as fun as it looks? This vid gives a fairly good idea of what it's all about:

The best videos I have found for this so far belong to Shibby2142 and the sheer mistrust between him and his friends is highly entertaining. It takes a couple of vids to understand what is going on (partly because Shibby has absolutely no idea what is going on) but once it clicks, it's great. He doesn't seem to have playlisted his videos for this so I'll just shove the first few here in case anyone else is likely to get the same enjoyment as I did working through them (he has 14 vids in his series so far).

Gonna be fair here.

I tried it. But the players on most servers seemed a little bit of a clique and sometimes no matter what class you were designated, people killed you anyway.

Maybe I'm being overtly cynical, as my mate enjoys it.

Fair enough, it does seem to lend itself to playing with a load of mates and spotting their 'tells' so to speak. I'd imagine there are two problems playing with strangers. Firstly people who just treat it as deathmatch, therefore nullifying the whole point of the game and secondly, outside of catching people in the act, there's not a whole lot of ways to tell if someone is a traitor or not.

That said, the sheer enjoyment the youtubers get from playing it is such a pleasure to watch!

Thanks for this thread - a new one for me. I probably won't play, but I enjoyed watching a few videos. I subscribe to Shibby anyway, so I'll check them out if he posts more.

There are so many great moments in this, it really makes me regret not having a decent pc.... or any friends for that matter.

Detective1: Respond to the allegations that you knifed someone WJ
WJ: I DID NOT DO IT!
Detective2: That sounds very traitorish.
Detective1: That doesn't work for me... open fire! Kill him!
Detective2: Awww, he was innocent
Detective1: Honest mistake, honest mistake. Gentleman I do not regret a thing. On to the next mystery!

Honestly, I had tears rolling down my face. I don't know why I find this so hilarious, but I do.

But that's the Source engine, right, and you say you can run HL2? I think you should give it a go.

Puffin Chunks

Yeah, barely and since upgrading to Windows 7 64bit my PC seems to struggle more than it used to. I think that TITT is based on Counter Strike so I may give that a go and see if it works.
