"... A leading campaigner against racism has resigned from a Church of England advisory body in protest at the archbishop of Canterbury's support for the chief rabbi's comments last week on antisemitism in the Labour party. Gus John, a respected author and academic, said: "As a matter of principle, I cannot continue to work with the Anglican church ... after the archbishop of Canterbury's disgraceful endorsement of the chief rabbi's unjust condemnation of Jeremy Corbyn and the entire Labour party."... "... A host of leading cultural figures including the actors Steve Coogan, Mark Rylance and Julie Christie, the grime artist Kano and the writer and environmentalist Naomi Klein have united to back Jeremy Corbyn and praised Labour for prioritising "people and planet over profit.

In a letter to the Guardian, 40 leading cultural figures, which also includes Catastrophe writer and star Rob Delaney, Top Boy lead Ashley Walters and the band Clean Bandit, encourage people to vote Labour, writing that the Conservatives would create a more unequal and divided society. We are shamed by extreme levels of inequality, neglect and environmental impoverishment resulting from decades of neoliberalism, in Britain and across the world..."

A fine fine man.

How anyone could watch that alongside any interview Boris Johnson has done or is likely to do, and still come out favouring Johnson, boggles the mind.

QuoteJohn added: "If Anglicans in the UK from the African and Asian diaspora were to judge Justin Welby as the leader of the established church by the same criteria he appears to be employing in his assessment of Jeremy Corbyn, he too would fail the fitness to lead test."

And in one fell swoop Coogan proved that he is a better human being than Iannucci.

Welby is an Old Etonian who made a fortune working in fossil fuels. Disgrace he got the top job over John Sentamu who stayed at York. At least Rowan Williams was a proper intellectual. This guy is just a proper rich white wally.

king_tubby

Sentamu's not keen on the LGBTs though, is he? Or wasn't when he was appointed.

idunnosomename

the CofE is as bad on LGBT as it is on racism. it'll let some church congregations get away with anything as long as they arent fucking goats on the parish high altar

imitationleather

Do people still follow the CofE? It's not exactly one of the fashionable religions.

bgmnts

Is there a denomination where you CAN fuck goats on the parish high alter? Asking for a friend.

Religion is basically for sinners so you've got a wide choice.

idunnosomename

thing is why do the media hold the chief rabbi above all these other faith leaders they think are a load of flying spaghetti shit?? Hmm!! HMMM!!!!??

NoSleep

Why hasn't the chief rabbi protested about the Tories (May and Johnson included) attending the recent unveiling of a statue of nazi sympathiser and antisemite, Nancy Astor?

idunnosomename

also i feel it's worth admitting it was labour mp Luke Pollard who first proposed getting this cunt a statue

https://www.politicshome.com/news/uk/government-and-public-sector/house/house-magazine/100211/we-need-more-statues-women-%E2%80%93

ALSO worth saying first woman elected as an MP was from Sinn Fein so didn't take up her seat:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constance_Markievicz

and was a true fucking socialist unlike Astor who was a Nazi turd

jobotic

Just turned over ITV news. Corbyn finally had an apology rung out of him over AS. Some might say about time. Even then it had to be forced out of him etc etc. This is the fucking newsreader.

Do you have a link?  Did he actually say anything different from what he'd already said loads of times in the past?

idunnosomename

Phillip Schofield on Good Morning Britain as above. It was not rung out of him from the clips I've seen. He wanted to make a proper statement and said "sorry" for the umpteenth time.

Appallingly the R4 6pm news actually said he was "tetchy"

Imagine if they said a Johnson interview was "bumbling"

Andrew Marr, of all people, accused Johnson of "chuntering" during their interview on Sunday. That's the closest any journalist has ever come to saying, "You're talking a load of drivelling bollocks, mate."

A small, meaningless moment, admittedly, but you grab on to what you can these days.

greencalx

There's as much evidence of JC being antisemitic as there is of David Cameron putting his dick in a pigs head. I'm sure the latter would get "tetchy" if that's all he was ever asked about.

Buelligan

I also worry about tetchy.  Shorthand for unreasonable old man isn't it?

There are certain ways, certain words, used to describe a person or their behaviour, that reinforce unthinking prejudice.  Tetchy is one of those or try flustered, dithering, if you want to undermine an older woman, a bit of subliminal ageism and sexism there.

Zetetic

That's why you should always refer to him as "the spunky Jeremy Corbyn".
