Ooh, nice one butnut, I was just looking for this on suprnova.  I should be able to leave it running all day and all night, should anyone else want it.

For any other new comers to this program. Series 2 and 3 are now both on www.suprnova.org.Just search for "Curb"

Quote from: "Neil"Sorry about the first post in this thread being so rubbish, I wrote it about three times cause of the site being wobbly and couldn't be arsed doing it again. Anyway, Mundays, who is it who plays Larry David in Man On The Moon again? I know Norm McDonald plays MIchael Richards but I'm sure you said Larry David is in there and it's torturing me trying to remember who he is.  Anyway I was talking in the soulseek room there about Fridays, and after doing a little search I found what seems to be a very good article about Larry David:  http://www.markcarey.com/me/larry-david-angry-middle-aged-man.html

EDIT:  Just been reading it, and it's great, lots of good info in there about Larry David that I've never seen before.

"One night at Catch a Rising Star, a comedy club on Manhattan's Upper East Side, David stepped onto the stage, scanned the room from side to side, said, "Never mind," and walked off."

Wahey!  Great article, thanks for linking it up.  Loads of interesting info in there, I've not been to find many interviews with him.

Watched the most rescent episode (4-07) last night.  Tremendous.
Just as I was thinking the episode seemed a little slower and less funny than the previous ones, it hit me with the bit where Larry calls up Schwimmer's dad and leaves the message.  I suppose it was quite an obvious joke, but it was brilliantly executed and kept me laughing for most of the night.

Quote from: "Munday's Chylde"Three more curbs arrived this morning via the (god like) gavin express... this is a wasted post I know but I'm all excited. Tell you what, I'll come back later and edit this into a review instead.

Much as I love Curb, when watching the last episode I did have the thought "Would it be best to kill Larry David off?"...and let the series' legacy speak for itself...

I have also just hit myself in my eye with my thumb...no, really - I have...bloodshot...I thought I had an interesting point as well, dammit...

Just watched this episode on HBO (they show the new ones on Sunday and repeat them on Wednesdays).
I've been avoiding watching this series because I still haven't seen all of the first few series' and I don't like jumping in halfway through, but I couldn't resist, and it was a great episode, (PLOT SPOILERS) Larry trying his best (and failing) to not be a racist, and that scene you mentioned was one of those bits of comedy that makes you laugh out loud and keeps you laughing for 5 minutes afterwards when you picture Schwimmer's dad listening back to it.
The observation about magazines in doctors offices was, again, quite obvious, but delivered beautifully...
"TOM CRUISE....IS 40!!!....EMILIO ESTEVEZ....IS 40!...WELL DONE!"

Gonna have to grab the first few series' now methinks...

oh yeah... well that morning I raced round the town as fast as you like anxious to get home and watch it - don't know of any other tv show that's ever got me behaving like that.

Wasn't dissapointed - the weatherman episode is my favourite of this series so far, loved the fact he kept explaining his bad back with the truth instead of thinking of a (more convincing) lie - nice to see throwback references to earlier episodes too, with the 'larry is suspicious and trying to suss someone out' look of a long silent closeup of him squinting and headtilting.

Not a great review by anybodys standard, I'll reserve that for when I get the next batch :D ;)

NobodyGetsOutAlive

There are also torrents for the show here if anyone is interested.

Rats

Yeah, the golf one is the best so far, this last one was class though, I think it's just pipped it so there's something to look forward to mundays.

Neil

The latest one was good, and in fact seems to be the episode featured in that interview!  It's another episode about how Larry David always seems to act in an inappropriate manner around black people.  Yet again it's hilarious, this series has been one of the best and I'm dreading it ending now, although there'll be that characteristically hilarious finale to look forward to.

The stare is used to brilliant effect in this series Mundays.

Rats

Yeah, they used it a lot throughout all the series haven't they? It's class, it's like a running thing like on father ted when he'd be laughing at someone's joke and then look away and make that face.

Looks like the series 1 DVD will be out soonish:
Curb Your Enthusiasm
The complete first series is out 17th May 2004. This will include the hour long special and audio commentaries.

No news on the BBC showing series 3 yet.

NobodyGetsOutAlive

Where did you see this? This wasn't on Play.com. Is this not just the Region 1 dvd that's been out for a couple of months now which has all those features (the "commentaries" being the cast on the first episode the only episode with any commentary).

Despite having downloaded Bit Torrent 3.3, I'm having trouble playing avi episodes of Curb. Can anyone point me in the right direction to download the right bit of kit to sort out the problem? I've seen the first season four ep and it's driving me mad that none of the others will work on my computer.

NobodyGetsOutAlive

Do you get picture but no sound? What are you playing them with? If it's media player or something, you might need to download the divX codec from http://www.divx.com/divx .

You could also try playing them with VLC which is at www.videolan.org as this seems to have no trouble playing anything.

I use this wonderful piece of software when I can't play something:

http://avicodec.duby.info/

Just load the file you can't play into it and it'll tell you what codecs it uses and whether you have them. It even gives you weblinks to the right ones. It's never let me down.

I thought I was there with the videolan software but then the audio was massively out of synch with the video. According to the avicodec site, I should be able to play the video with what I've got, but I haven't had any luck. I'm going to try and download another episode and see what happens. It's driving me bloody  mad!

dan dirty ape

Right....downloaded a huge wedge of these this morning, having continually missed them on TV and intrigued by this thread, and I have to say y'all are right. 'The Doll' is one of the most beautiful bits of comedy I've ever seen.

I can't use Bit Torrent as I'm using a Mac, I've just waited all day to download The Benzadine Brownie? and Club Soda episodes using Limewire, only to find they don't work. Anyone know a better way?

I use Azureus on the mac - it's a really good bitTorrenter.

What type of files are those? I've watched them this week on my mac.

Neil

Hooray!  Now the tech threads are merging with the comedy ones!  WOOHOO!!!

Darrell

Just to confirm - the DVD that comes out on May 17th is a R2 release.

*SPOILERS*

Just watched the new one...another very funny episode this week, although the end didn't quite work for me.  The waving was funny, but the dog attacking Larry didn't make much sense.  Was he just getting back at Larry over the car incident?  I dunno, either I'm missing something or it just didn't work.  Other than that, great episode, Larry and Geoff arguing about pausing the tape was hilarious, it's that sort of quibbling which is realistic and very very funny.  This set up the next two episodes nicely, clearly his secretary is going to wreak havoc next week, and then we have the big finale.

Oh, lovely use of music with the High Noon stuff...  also enjoyed the tribal drums when the Native American was diagnosing a cure for Cheryl, and then it reappeared when Larry was talking to his assistants boyfriend, nice.

"Why give the bosom away?"

butnut

*Spoilers too!*

I agree Neil. It felt like it was building up to be a classic ending. The build up with the condoms, porn, the dog, and the Indian was working really well, but then the actual ending with the dog, as you say, didn't make a great deal of sense. I read it as the dog suddenly taking revenge on him - which seemed a bit odd. The waving at the car at least meant that the episode ended with me laughing.

But still a good episdoe (has there been a bad one - I don't think there has), but not a great one. Maybe there'll be more pay-offs next week.

butnut

Just seen this on the HBO site. Series 2 DVD is coming out at some point (in America that is).

QuoteCurb Season Two DVD
Stay tuned for the official DVD release of Season Two of Curb Your Enthusiasm from HBO Video. Any copies for sale at this time are not authorized by HBO. (February 26, 2004)

Spaced Cadet

I've just finished watching some random episodes I downloaded from Limewire, I think from S3, the chef with Tourettes where everyone ends up swearing. We just can't rival this sort of quality with any current UK comedy shows.
