The singer Morrissey is being treated for "physical exhaustion" after cancelling two concerts in the US.
A statement posted to his Instagram account said the singer had "been ordered to rest for two weeks".
It added that the former frontman of The Smiths would remain in Zurich where he was receiving "medical supervision".
Morrissey, 64, had been due to perform in California on 26 and 27 January to mark the 20th anniversary of his album, You are the Quarry.
The album features some of Morrissey's most famous songs including First of the Gang to Die and Irish Blood, English Heart.
The venues in Anaheim and Inglewood said the concerts had been cancelled due to "unforeseen circumstances".
His tour dates in February have also been cancelled, according to his website.
The singer had been due to perform in Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Chile, Argentina and Brazil next month.
The band She Wants Revenge, who were due to support Morrissey at the California shows, said they were "genuinely saddened".
They added that although they were "frustrated and deeply disappointed" they were "not terribly surprised".
"We all knew this was a possibility, we just hoped it would play out different this time", the band said.
Morrissey has previously cancelled shows due to ill health.

Looking at the reaction from hardcore fans over on Morrissey-Solo.com, this does seem like a watershed moment:

It's over. Morrissey is done as a live act. I will never, ever travel to see him again.

I genuinely believe he thought these would be the hottest tickets in town. Though it's quite unlike him to join the nostalgia bandwagon of playing a "classic album", I think it's always been "in his back pocket" in case things really went south career wise!
I have to say that I never really liked the idea because it felt desperate and unbecoming. However, he's played that hand now and it's not worked and I'm not sure there's anything left, other than a Smiths reunion. Which, of course, will never happen.

The latest Morrissey Central update:

Morrissey has paid the exit fee to Capitol Records in order to return both WORLD PEACE IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS and BONFIRE OF TEENAGERS albums back to him.
"It's been a long, hard, bloody war. Few would make it out alive, and ... I'm no exception," he has commented.
Morrissey remains unsigned.

While I'm sorry to hear that Morrissey hasn't made it out alive, I look forward to seeing the two new albums dropping on Bandcamp very soon. Which I'm sure will definitely probably happen.
